Apologies in advance for the scratched up GMT! This one came in from a client for a service and polish.

Very simple: 1. Submariner less flashy, won't get scratched as easily. 2. GMT very flashy (looks amazing in the light), but this comes at the price of easily being scratched. The GMT is the Sub's rich flashy brother. Thats about it.

The polished centre links can be brushed for a reasonable price, so if you were passionate about the GMT function and design, the centre links shouldn't really be a make or break.
@damachine3
@damachine3 6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Evans Yeah, but then it just gets scratched again relatively quickly and you can only brush it so many times before it starts to affect the shape of the metal.

I think you're confused. Brushing the center links means they would be brushed like the outer links and look like a submariner bracelet which doesn't show scratches like the polished center links.

Did you mention the Sub bezel turns one way for safety purposes (no way to accidentally increase dive time). I have the 116710 (non-ceramic version), with the the 3185 movement and twinlok. Good review.

While the Submariner is always a popular watch, it does seem like the less common BLNR 'Batman' is holding its value incredibly well. I've often seen them on sale used for more than MSRP, which seems insane to me. When I had to make this exact choice, I went with the GMT because I do travel extensively for work, so actually use the GMT functionality several times a month, and also have family in another country. So the GMT is great for tracking two time zones, and also quick referencing a third time zone, say to make a phone call and to check the time in another zone prior to placing the call. If I still lived in the UK and did not travel, I am 95% certain that I'd own a Sub. But with my job, the choice was GMT. Personally, despite the popularity of the BLNR, I find the original LN black on black version the best, in that it has more a classic Sub look and is more versatile than a watch with a big chunk of blue on it. I think the clear choice here is UTILITY, as mentioned in the video. If you don't travel or reference timezones a fair bit, then there is very little point in choosing the GMT. Although I think it does dress up a little more than the more tool-like Submariner. The good news is whether you choose the Batman or Hulk, the regular Sub or regular GMT, I don't think you can go far wrong. You'll have an exceptional timepiece that can last many decades, and really can be a collection of one. Once I got mine, I stopped shopping for watches, and wear mine every day.

I love the black dial GMT, but for an investment piece better to stick with the two done bezel. The batman is great but the bezel is just too damn busy for every day wear. I wanted to love the GMT but I couldn't get over how large the new numerals are on the updated model. The 41mm sub is just great!

Two different watches designed for specific uses, however, both are great for "general" use. I like the GMT II more because I can dive with it (100 meters) and it's a dual time zone piece; the Sub is only a dive watch.

Great video Dylan. I own and love both of those watches. The GMT II is my everyday watch. Its a little lighter and the dual timezone feature keeps me on task. My Submariner has a two tone bracelet with a sapphire blue face which I feel looks classier for an evening out on the town.

I have both of these references. The gmt is getting more wrist time at the moment. Just something about polished centre links. Feels more ‘Rolex’ if you know what I mean. Love the sub equally though. More understated and love the way the brushed steel changes in different lighting.

The Submariner just oozes pure classy luxury, elegant simplicity and rugged tool-watch all in one package, few other watches do that so well. I could see that looking comfortable on the wrist of a deep-sea oil platform worker as well as on the wrist of a company director.

The GMT II is a better bang for the buck in the used market. If you're not a diver and only plan to go swimming/snorkeling with the watch, the submariner is more expensive for a very little benefit. The bond aesthetic is largely achieved with either watch even though Bond wore the submariner for obvious reasons. If you're diving to a depth where you would be concerned about your watch failing, chances are you will be using a dive computer to give proper readings instead of a wristwatch. Also you can use a Seiko Turtle PADI for only $300 that is ISO certified and well respected in the diver community for many years for such activities. The primary attraction to purchasing a Rolex is for the value of owning a luxury piece that is rugged as well as beautiful and possible also to reflect wealth in the and esteem in the eyes of others. If you're buying new and wish to retain resale value, the submariner is the better option as the speaker mentions. Another thing to note is that Rolex watches don't tend to climb back up in value until they reach maximum depreciation around ten years in age; so your submariner won't likely bring much money unless you keep for a very long time; however, should you find yourself in a position needing to sell the watch in the short term, the submariner's popularity will be a saving grace to regain most of your money provided it is in top condition and only a roughly three to four years old.

Bellerophon 911 Subs are going for $1,200-3,000 right now on the grey market. You could literally buy 2018 Sub today and sell it tomorrow for more! Look at ANY grey market site Bobs, Jonas and Chrono are good sites to attest to the Sub market. New Rolex subs have a waiting just to be able to purchase the watch from an AD! Subs are a great watch for many reasons, but waiting 10 years for it to go up in value is just wrong information to put out on a thread.

Thank you for a great review and comparison. You're spot on. I ended up selling my GMT and going back to the Sub. I love my sub. I really hate how the bracelet gets scratched so easily on the GMT. I also felt the GMT is dressier. Lastly, anytime there is color introduced, I felt it was overall limiting, except the red writing on my 50th anniversary Deep sea. Love your channel, keep up the great work.

I used to like the simplicity of the Submariner. It's still a classy looking watch that will remain timeless over the years. But i've recently grown to really like the overall look of the GMT. And the GMT is a very functional watch with the different time zones etc and you can make use of the bezel. As for the Sub or other dive watches, we don't really use the bezel during normal daily wear.

Only ever give ‘your’ opinion of the watches and never ‘we…’. I have way more use for the hour timer on the Sub. I’m still to get the proper use out of the GMT. I use the GMT like the dive bezel when timing something but it’s def not as clear to read for this function which I’m aware it isn’t designed for. I wish the new Sub came in a 39/40mm and not just 41. It’s a bit 41mm which is chunkier and 10 grams heavier than my speedmaster. I’m still to try the GMT on the polished oyster. So far I’ve just had the pleasure of wearing the GMT on jubilee. There are size differences that make a big difference even if it’s one mm

Question: Are the numerals and dots on the black GMT Bezel white, or white gold? Are they identical in material and color of those on the Batman model, or are they different? On the Batman it seems like you get white ones, whereas on this black GMT they seem to match the color of the bracelet rather than the color of the hour dots on the dial. Comments?

That looks like an older GMT. The newer ones aren’t like that. You can control just the date now. In fact, you can go back or forward on the date now, in case you cross time zones where you’re “traveling to yesterday” - which is actually an interesting feature). Good video just slightly outdated and comparing a 5 digit GMT to a 6 digit SubC. Also, now, the clasps are the same size although the GMT still doesn’t have the glidelock extension.

Dunno where you live but everywhere I have seen the GMT is way better resale. The Pepsi and Batman sell for between 50-100% more than RRP

Damn! those babies have been worn. I had both on my wrist and the decision was for the GMT. I pretty like the polished bracelet. It's more dressy and luxury. But I can feel you with the tooly look auf the Sub. It's like Audi vs BMW

On the GMT, I had a Rolex Dealer tell me that you can take to a jeweler and they can Brush the Center link that is polished. Know there have been a few comments on that. Can that really be done easily , if so would it impact value of watch?
@BijouDiamondJewellery
@BijouDiamondJewellery 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes that can be done but it isn't advisable as it will affect the value. People don't like to buy non stock Rolexes.

It's good to reward ourselves sometimes . While I'm not one to spend on high-end watch (I spend too much money on travel, lol), I can appreciate your gorgeous and timeless watch. I love how it's a symbol of all your hard work.And i choose NKUWAN every time honestly

I prefer the GMt hands down but the polished clasp and centre links are a deal breaker for me - ruins the whole aesthetic of the watch - goes from being tool watch to a scratch magnet.

Very true HextyVision! Every time I see a GMT it makes me love it so much, but the polished centre links really kill it for me

If I must pick one element I dislike about the GMT is that the numbers on the bezel are a little too exaggerating and looks not so seemly as the Sub.

So many people keep saying rolex is perfect and there is no such thing as imperfection. Well, two of my rollie doesn't change the date at exact midnight and the logo on screw down crown doesn't align perfectly on both. Now where Breitling everything seem to spot on and align dead center. I know the date change can be fix and not sure about the crown.

I am torn between this two as my first Rolex. I like the cleaner look of the submariner but I like the function of the GMT. I already got an Omega Seamaster (dive watch) and Panerai (diver also with GMT). Look (Submariner) or Functionality (GMT)?

Hi, since last year I was thinking about getting a Sub. But, I can't make my mind up now weather to get the GMT II. Larger money investment (Sub) , or uncommon but still holds value (GMT II)?? thankyou.

Either one you go with you will love. You can't make a wrong decision between these two. Just depends what you prefer, the design differences are subtly different, the polished centre links are one of the biggest differences so see what you think of that on your wrist vs the brushed sub.

I think it’s really not a big deal with the date of the gmt. I mean, how often do you really need to set it? Furthermore, I really..y thing the 100m on the gmt is underrated. It has almost the same case and the same trip-lock crown as the submariner.
