Hey Bob. When starting the car, just turn the key to “on” for a few seconds, wait, and let the fuel pump build up pressure. Then turn the key to “Start”.

it is making me think your fuel pump is letting the lines lose pressure.
@kevin_nagle3 жыл бұрын
I agree... it can be the regulator as well. You can put a gauge on the fuel rail and see if it loses pressure when you turn the ignition off. If not holding the fuel pressure then it would do exactly this. You can try to cycle the ignition on and off a few times before trying to start it, this will let the fuel pump build pressure in the lines and fuel rails.
@petegraham79234 жыл бұрын
I’m not a Rolls expert, just a diesel wrench. But I would throw a fuel pressure gauge on there to see if you have a weak pump or pumps. Could also have a weak fuel pressure regulator.
@biggiefitz62754 жыл бұрын
That's what it sounds like to me. Valve not closing and letting fuel drain back into fuel tank

NGK are better for the V12 engine! I replaced mine on my BMW M73 V12, Well worth the extra cost over the Bosch plugs.

After the repairs, it still took a while to start when cold, but started fine the second time warm. My guess would NOT be injectors, since their behaviour wouldn’t change much cold or warm if they were clogged or gummed up. My first guess would be fuel filter - has it been changed recently? If it was gummed up inside or restricting fuel flow, you would have slow starts when cold, but you’d still have primed fuel available on a warm start to make those happen fast. Cheapest / simplest place to start if it hasn’t been done recently by you - and if you’ve been putting miles on it more regularly than it was used in the last, it would make sense that you may have filled the current filter with whatever gunk was built up and resting in the tank from low usage. Best wishes.

Scotty might suspect a weak fuel pump for the slow start. A beautiful car Bob. So happy for you!

Nice video bob. Ngk plugs are one of the best in the business. Please use fender covers! You would be surprised how easy cars get scratched when we are leaning over them, also when your extension fell off it would have nicked the fender. Easy way to protect the car

Look at the fuel pressure regulator. I bet it's leaking slowly. Confirm by testing fuel pressure after car has been sitting overnight.
@BamBamz_Buildz4 жыл бұрын
What's up Bob, hey man I truly believe your hard start in the mornings is that when the car is sitting for long period of time the car is losing most of its prime. The fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator is not holding pressure like it should an the fuel is draining back to the gas tank. An when you try to start it in the mornings it has to pump the gas back to the engine throttle body.

Fuel pump pressure may be bleeding back when it sits and the first start takes so long due to the lack of fuel. Try testing fuel pressure. You may need to replace the fuel pump.👍🤘🔧

hey Bob, enjoy your videos. Enjoy Edinburgh, it is awesome there. I have two benz's with V12s. They are awesome. Check your fuel pump and check valve. Stuttering, misfires etc are a sign the pump is not flowing well. Learned that the hard way.

I had a Range Rover with the same exact issue & it turned out to be the fuel filter. Of course I found this out after hrs of research & replacing a bunch of other parts. Even my Land Rover trained mechanic didn't think the filter was the problem but after $50 & 20 minutes to replace it I never had that problem again.

I have heard many different people complain that Bosh plugs can cause problems if the car origionally had NGK parts in it. It may have to do with the tuning, not sure, but for Hondas they say to only use NGK.

I have been driving an N73 760 for 9 years now. Yes it's had many problems. The only times I have had slow startup like that is when its had an actual fuel leak in one of the high pressure fuel rails. Even when it's running perfectly cold starts can be a bit stumbled. My car was sent back to BMW head office for a missfire problem that the dealership could not solve. They effectively rebuilt the motor and collected data from it to help the N73 diagnostic process. My problem was due to the valve lifters over adjusting on startup. In your case the engine starts smoothly and not leaking fuel externally. There are high pressure sensors for each bank. You could compare them (DME1 and DME2) on a scan tool before starting the car.

Great video Bob, as always. RR always over -engineers components whenever possible, it keeps their repair shops busy. Also, RR/BMWs do seem to prefer NGK plugs and Delphi coils. Bosch at one time was building superior products, they are not now as you can see by your plug comparison. The expert comments below will solve your starting issues. There is no reason why you should settle for less than expected from your RR. It is truly a beautiful car.

The car raises up which means you air compressor is working fine. The front air suspension might be leaking air slowly, but not to a point you need to buy new ones yet. Very common problem.

check fuel pressure cold could be a fuel pressure regulator \ check valve. Mercedes has a check valve built into fuel filter that causes the fuel pressure to bleed back once started it starts normally not sure if Rolls has the same fuel system check/ regulator but its easy to check with a fuel pressure gauge. I feel your pain with the plugs the M112 6 cyl has 12 of them and they are FUN to get to

Last time you changed the fuel filter? It can be that or it can be a sign the fuel pump is going. Test the fuel pressure AND test the volume. While doing the volume maker sure there's no bubbles in the fuel. Not a Rolls or BMW expert. But I have been turning a wrench for over 30 years and have earned myself an ASE Master Technician patch.

Check your fuel pressure regulator for pressure bleed down with KOEO(Key On Engine Off). Im not sure if BMW used a external fuel pressure regulator, but with age they can tend to bleed down quicker than "normal". You should not see more than a 10 psi drop in pressure within 5 minutes from priming the fuel rail with KOEO.

Would bet my balls that the hard starting is a fuel pressure problem. Some BMW's use a fuel anti drain back valve in the fuel system, maybe start with that, or it might just be a dying fuel pump. Need to hookup a fuel pressure gauge and see what's going on to start with.

@ronnypaul14004 жыл бұрын
Could be your starter is done, or, cycle the key a couple of times to prime the fuel-pump without actually starting the car and on the 3rd cycle, turn the car on. Could be that the fuel is leaving your fuel pump back into the tank when the car has been sitting for a long time. Maybe a safety mod installed by Rolls? Lastly, how is your battery? Is it being drained? Could be you don't have enough amperage to turn over that starter. You may have a parasitic drain in the car. These things have all sorts of complicated wiring and you may have an electrical issue.

Bob, when you start in the morning turn the key on but allow it to sit for 8-10 seconds to build up fuel pressure. It may be leaking back overnight and taking a while to reach full pressure at the engine. Has it had a fuel pump to your knowledge?

All plugs done *WITHOUT* removing the intake manifolds !!! Respect mate, hell of a fiddle that must have been ! Regarding the mascot retraction mech, there are four small nuts, two per side that need slackening off which then allows removal of the upper grille section. All then becomes apparent ! Quite worring that the 'lady' is secured to her base by just one 3mm allen headed grub screw, its some safety requirement so it detaches with not a lot of impact force.

Spirit of Ecstasy was modelled after Eleanor Thornton who was the lover of the sculptor Charles Sykes not Rolls or Royce. Enough of that. Onto the important stuff. Does it hurt if you stick your finger in the mechanism when Eleanor Thornton is heading down into the radiator? Fudge yes! I have had a Drophead for 11 years and as part of my owner's due diligence felt obliged to find out. All I can say is 'Fudge, Yes!!' Nearly took my finger off: no joke.
