I'm a wedding officiant. I was contacted by a 70- year old " bride" who described her relationship with a Canadian she met online who was working as an engineer in Syria! Met through Instagram. No video chat. Only texting and chatting. Occasional phone calls. Guy has an accent. ( Most Canadians sound American.) All the major red flags. She insisted he never asked her for money but I suspect she was not telling me everything. . But he asked her to marry him after about 6 weeks of chatting. I gently suggested she was being scammed but she is adamant the guy is authentic. Needless to say I refused to accept the job and recommended this channel to her. Very sad.

It no doubt reduces Trust about people from west Africa who come to the USA, UK etc too. There's certainly 'no smoke without fire', and the massive amount of scamming coming from Nigeria, Ghana and parts of India (and maybe Russia/China in a different way) sends a strong message of criminal and anti-Western sentiment in parts of those countries. Part of me can understand it, as rich western countries have a long history of exploiting others ... however there's no moral rational for victimising and ruining vulnerable individuals. I'm curious about what's culturally or systemically different in those countries that have more scammers.

Once it's a western citizen that's a victim then the idiots will start to broadcast to the whole world that you're a scammer that you're wanted by the FBI, bla bla bla. You have two know two things about Africans. First is that they have very different moral standards compared to Western ones, esp. in regards to stealing, lying and sex. Second, they feel they have a right to do anything to white people, bcs "white people stole for centuries from Africa". So, the combination of the two factors makes them very dangerous and heartless. And third: most of them are heartless by nature and would easily destroy a family member or a fellow African. Africans treat each other terribly.

@@elladapetrosyan9610 that’s is incredibly sad. I’m mixed, German and Guatemalan and we moved to the USA in 2018, after my husband got transferred to lead a research lab here. He studied in Duke though and his roommate was from Ghana. He didn’t have a lot of great things to say about his fellow countrymen either. He is a successful scientist now and most people from Africa we know are well educated people in engineering and science fields. I like them very much. But I can also say, that my husband and I are not the typical immigrants from Guatemala either and sadly many immigrate here, that won’t do this country any good and destroy our countries reputation. I imagine it’s similar for Africans. Probably a lot of good people are there but others destroy the countries reputation…

I have a theory that these scammers put people's Instagram/Facebook names onto a "list" that they can sell or trade with _other_ scamming organizations, and that the next scammer can see the names and go find the victims (likely using bots). Unfortunately, some scam victims that are too old or have dementia will repeatedly fall for scams until someone takes their PC or smartphone away.
@islandgal500
@islandgal500 Жыл бұрын
@@angeldiaz762 Yes, they have already proven that happens. They update your information every time they talk to you and you give them new details about yourself. That is why scam baiters will give fictitious information to a scammer. Susceptible people need to be protected by their family or friends or learn how to protect themselves by deleting messages or hanging up the phone rather than being intimidated or tricked. I don't think someone has to be old to keep falling for these scams either. It will happen to anyone who is too trusting or has that need to help others with their financial problems. Fortunately, I am too skeptical to fall for them because I have my rules - nothing related to money or my personal information. It is getting harder since scammers are coming up with new cons that are more believable. Amuse yourself on those social media sites if you must, but think before doing anything that makes you vulnerable. Remember it is not your responsibility to fix the problems of others with your money.

I found it a little odd, bc that's physiologically what a genuine smile does. It's called a DuChenne smile, and is a sign that it's real, not social only. I had a few early encounters where we talked a lot first, became kinda close, and then when we met and there were NO sparks, it was almost like a breakup. It came to feel more natural to me to meet online, but to quickly move to a traditional date. All that to say, I can’t even imagine planning marriage with someone you’ve never met. This may sound odd and obviously 10 months late from when this episode was first aired. But I have to say that I think the I-cloud mix-up that opened her eyes was perhaps the doing of her deceased son or daughter looking out for her. Additionally, the grammer change could be a result of not being able to use a script or other grammer, spell check tools in the situation he found himself in. I have to give her credit for developing a web site to warn others and for sharing her experience here. I hope and pray that she and her Granddaughter have beautiful and happy lives.

The devil and those he's using are always patient leading people into their traps. It's once they're trapped that their prey senses danger. Then they're kept too physically and emotionally drained trying to keep up to have time to figure things, and their way out. It's difficult for people with a conscience to fathom the lengths that those who lack conscience will go through to achieve their goals. *Be aware, and beware:* 1Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 🍃🙃🙏🏾😊🍃

My husband would divorce me. Number one. After that... I have no idea of the consequences. But I know better. I don't give a dollar to strangers. I am not mean. I worked my entire life. We are retired. Been through hard times during 911. Got no help from anyone. Took years to recover. I went back to school. Got another job. Eventually. 21 years later. It is still with me. Maybe if something like this had happened to these people. They wouldn't be giving their money away so fast.🌹

Cont. I don't take it wrong. Unemployment benefits is not enough to sustain a mortgage and living ect. If your spouse has an income. You do not qualify for anything else. 911 included. We went through alot of our savings. No children that were minors. So I guess what I am saying. Is these people have no idea obviously never have suffered financially. Or else they would not do this.

What’s really sad is that these scammers use the same techniques over and over, such as claiming to have “ a contract” which then falls through for lack of money, and/or then they have an “accident@ or end up in jail, and need more money. Plus “my Queen” is a staple, often used by people in Africa. Thank you for sharing this story.
