"Put that Pope down!" I laughed at this - nicely done! A tactical option when dealing with siege towers: when faced with an oncoming tool of siege warfare, have your archers set their arrows aflame and fire at the oncoming besieging tool. A crispy tower is a useless tower to anyone - try to employ this tactic at the earliest available opportunity. You may be able to take out the tower before a troop sets foot on your walls and, quite possibly, get to enjoy watching a burning, flaming tower collapse with enemy units inside! The core aspect of this battle lesson is *mobility.* Tactical option #1: Your use of the wall to defeat the oncoming enemy was inspired - very good. However, since your archers are only outmatched by cavalry in regards to mobility, be sure to use this to your advantage - if the enemy captures the gate, don't be afraid to do the classic Tom-and-Jerry run around. Use your archers to lure the enemy away from the gate. Then, get your archers off the walls onto the streets and double back to take the gates from the enemy, if you have the opportunity to do so and once. The enemy will take more losses trying to catch you once again and enemies trying to get to your gate will get a couple of singed hairs from the newly-recaptured defenses. Tactical option #2: Since you have cavalry and they don't, use your improved mobility, namely camels, to disrupt onagers and get the enemy infantry to charge you early, dragging them along your walls and letting your towers cut them to shreds! Your instincts were on the right track on getting the idea to give the enemy a bit of a poke in the eye with your cavalry. Remember to view your epic stone walls as weapons to be used themselves! Tactical option #3: Move your archers outside the city and fire at the enemy, get them to chase you. Their lack of cavalry was a serious tactical error on their part - their heavy infantry will never catch your archers. Since they had no answer for your mobility, Divide et Imperia. Split the enemy forces in two: have some of them chase your archers on the ground, while others chase your cavalry on the other. "Drag" the enemy all the way around your settlement, then run into the city for safety when ready. By the time they regroup, only ragged remnants will remain and you'll have a bunch of arrows and camels to pick off whatever the towers miss. (When facing a siege, remember that the enemy is relying on a straight up fight - do not give them that option if you have superior mobility! Bend the fight to your will!)
