In May 1940 Rommel's panzers lurk on the eastern bank of the Meuse River, searching for a crossing. The French have blown all the bridges...or have they? At the town of Houx Rommel's vanguard finds a way across and must establish a tenuous bridgehead on the western shore. In today's 28mm wargame, Keith and Greg battle it out at Houx to see if the French can drive Rommel's advance elements back across the Meuse! Join us for a Quick Strike AAR as we explore a critical moment in Operation Fall Gelb, the invasion of France.
This Quick Strike is sponsored by PICO ARMOR! Our guys have several 3mm Pico Armor armies and you can see these fantastic miniatures in one of our earlier Quick Strike AARs, Operation Martlet! From now until September 2022, you can score 10% off any order by Pico Armor with the coupon code: littlewarstv10

I've been to Houx and Dinant where the Germans crossed the Meuse for a battlefield tour. The reason the 5th Motorised were ineffective was that they were on a hill position set back from the river by about 2miles. A place called the Heights of Wastia. The weir crossing the Meuse now has been completely rebuilt and is a solid concrete structure with a footbridge over the lock gates, Further along the river at Dinant you can still see the launching point where Rommel loaded his tanks/vehicles to carry them across the river.

I was somewhat shocked at Keith's headlong charge down the board with the MC Squad and unsupported AC, until I saw in the scenario the French only have 3 turns. Did I miss it, or was Keith not able to use his off board 60mm mortar and HMG (and how does an off board HMG work)?
@IronIvanKeith
@IronIvanKeith 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the French really need to motor to get their objectives and hold them. I used the railway berm to shield me most of the way to the first objective but then ran into trouble. I did have the 60mm offboard and did use it but it didn't make the cut in the video because in this case it didn't do much. Especially once I got stuck in. You can use off board weapons to target a point on the table. The fire starts off less accurate but can be dialed in.

Yeah and how does the defender spawning mechanics works? I think my question was deleted for some reason... Would really like to know more about Disposable Heroes. I watched the review but I still have so many question.
@IronIvanKeith
@IronIvanKeith 2 жыл бұрын
Misread, you were asking about an offboard MG. You can set a field of fire with an offboard MG visible from a table edge (it is assumed there are multiple MGs supporting a frontage) and then fire into that area, creating a beaten zone. This can be shifted too. It allows an offboard MG to fire at units in an area or snap fire at them if they move through it. It really gives MGs an area denial capability
@davefranklin4136
@davefranklin4136 2 жыл бұрын
@@IronIvanKeith Thanks for the response Keith! Interesting idea about the off board HMG(s). I don't know the nuances of the DH2 rules, but my gut feel is with only 3 turns it's tough for the French to leverage all of their assets in the best tactical manner. You should play it again with Greg, and switch sides!
