In this Harry Potter DIY video we'll be making a replica of Ron Weasley's Howler letter! This is an updated version of my original Howler DIY video. This one should be much easier to follow and has some useful updates.

I made this and a bunch of your others for my sisters 21st birthday. I did something pretty cool though. I bought one of those musical greeting cards you can record your own message onto, and I took the electronics out. I then recorded the audio of the howler from the movie onto it and then put inside the letter behind the printout of writing. Every time it opens it starts going “RONALD WEASLEY....” she loved all the things I made her in the end so I just wanted to share and say thanks so much for all the effort you put into them!

@Ben Brungar Awesome idea! Could you please explain how you did that exactly? I'm not really good with DIY tech but I'd absolutely love to have a custom sound on this. :)

@@pennyanderreeperbahn8360 sure! I ended up ordering the device you could record audio onto and attach to greeting cards, which had an adhesive backing on it ready to attach. It was a couple years ago now when I made it so cant remember exactly how it worked or where I ordered from (probably ebay). It came with instructions on how to record it. I then found the part of the movie with the howler and played it out loud and made it record according to the instructions. It took a few tries to get it perfect though, so repeat the record process until you’re happy with how it sounds. I then attached the device to the red card at the fold so when it opened it played, and in behind the white paper with the writing so it was hidden. I think that sums it up. Hope it helps. Good luck

The Howler remains one of my favorite DIY from you. I have made several, one of them a birthday card for a fan, and people always love them. The idea of the magnets is brilliant, I will have to correct mine with a couple of them. Great new take on an old project!!

Fantastic. I was afraid of losing seal and magnet so I glued it to top half of ribbon. Tucked bottom ribbon under top ribbon when closed and it held. Thank you so much for sharing. I have just had shoulder rebuild surgery and your videos have been great to keep me company. Can’t wait to use my arm to try some of your other diys.

I would also love another expansion to the marauders map-perhaps hogsmeade and the shrieking shack, the forbidden forest, hagrid’s hut, etc.? I love the quidditch pitch expansion.

I remember I made the howler from you old version twice for my potterhead friends and it was amazing. I found it amazingly simple to follow and I think it was one of the best HP diys I made. The only thing is that the templates were removed, so I had to guess the sizes for the middle letter part, but other than that, it turned out really great. Now that the templates are here I can make an even better one for myself, lol. Thanks !

I just made the howler from the last video a week ago, so very excited to make this new one. I may make two - one that I display closed and one opened. I don't have magnets but I do have Velcro, so I'll be going that route. Because I don't plan to open that howler it shouldn't be too noticeable!

Amazing tutorial thank you! I changed the width to about 4.8inches x 12 so I didn't have to glue on extra paper and they turned out great! I also used hot glue for my adhesive and found that stayed much better!

I think this is great. It is a tad confusing at a few parts. I think it would have been easier if the camera were flipped so we had the same point of view as you though.

There's nothing to solve. I originally used glue and later decided double sided tape works better, hence the future cut in. If you felt confused about it, rewatch.

U can use photoshop (it's the best program for photo editing) but it's a little bit difficult to take control 😄

Print the template at its original scale. No resizing.

You say 12x12 for the red cardstock in your tools section, but then in the video you say cut the red cardstock to 6x15

Yes, but before that we glue 2 of them together to make it longer.

Its a great idea and I was really thrilled watching it. But it looks way more easy than it actually is! If you could turn the video by 180 degrees next time it would be easier to follow, as it would be the same point of view like yours. Going to download it and will do just like that. Btw I understand you want to earn money by KZfaq ads, but how many times does this tutorial get ripped apart by them? -.- Needed to rewind lots of times after doing some steps and this became highly annoying... two clips a 20 seconds, I mean... well.

Have you ever tried glue tape? I find it works better than double sided tape.

I love the concept, truly, but a lack of specific description, blurry video, and other factors make this a very difficult tutorial to follow :( I'm having so much trouble and am having to watch segments 3+ times to make sure I'm getting things right :/
