Long before Indiana Jones, Ronald Reagan was Jeff Williams in the 1952 adventure flick Hong Kong, aka Bombs over China.

When Disneyland opened in 1955, it didn't yet have the Indiana Jones Adventure ride. It did, however, have Ronald Reagan, who was one of the three hosts of the opening broadcast. They could have had a Hong Kong Adventure ride with a live Reagan to say lines like, "Tourists! Why did it have to be tourists?!"

I remember seeing a lecture on Reagan by a man who just wrote a book on him and he said, It's not that Reagan was a bad actor, it's that Reagan didn't like to expand his range beyond generic hollywood good guy hence why he never really went anywhere beyond B-Movies/TV shows....all the while being one of those very active behind the scenes personalities in the Unions/guilds/etc.

He actually resided in a similar acting/movie star niche as Harrison Ford. They share a look generally and behave similarly (except Harrison Ford smokes wayyyy more pot). I wonder if Lucas and Spielberg chose him on this basis? They would have both seen this movie.

I always appreciate it when Brad gives actors their due, like here with Reagan, Michael Chicklis in "Wired", or Meat Loaf in "To Catch a Yeti". Being a good actor in a mid/bad film sometimes makes people believe you're mid/bad as well, but Brad is one of the few Internet reviewers who seems able to differentiate a film's quality from the actor's talent.

Treasure of the Four Crowns!? Good lord, I haven't thought about that turd of a movie since it was on HBO back in the day. A classmate of mine in elementary school drew my attention to this awful scene where "the government" people seek the hero's help. "Help us get the crowns!" Even as an elementary school kid, he identified that as just bad writing and bad acting. It has stuck with me all these years.

@TheRealNormanBates

@@brucesnow7125 I think that was Daniel Ortega and Central American dictators causing the murders (do you even know what the word genocide means?), but he (or at least the former head of the CIA George HW Bush) was definitely into the drug smuggling. But hey! Before you get all teary eyed, just remember that Reagan was Bill Clinton's mentor, and it was Arkansas governor Bill Clinton that allowed the CIA to go in and out of Mena, Arkansas that allowed the Contra thing to happen. That and a cowardly democrat controlled congress that didn't go all the way with any prosecutions because enough democrats were involved they would take themselves out with Reagan. Can't say it's a _defense_ of anything Reagan did, but let's just consider the bigger picture that they're ALL actors pretending to be all American.
