Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. In this video, I'm called for a seemingly simple winch out of a semi truck and loaded trailer that found a soft spot in freshly spread gravel lot only to find that the owner/operator is an old high school friend of mine. This video is not so much about the job, although that is part of it, but it's about reminiscing, life experience, and just enjoying time with an old friend. Yes I still have a job to do and this is no sweat for the Miller Industries, Century 1150R towing and recovery unit on a Peterbilt 389X. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! There may be some typos in the description or in the video. Most people are joking about this video was made in "20222" and I must have done some time travelling. As interesting as that concept may be, time travel never seems to work out properly. Anyway, bak to the typos, apparently I didn't catch that when I was making the video this weekend. I broke my right index finger and I'm having a bit of trouble typing...LOL. Don't worry, the broken finger isn't a major problem, just a major inconvenience for now. Perhaps I should go back in time and prevent my finger from getting broken, but where to find a DeLorean complete with a flux capacitor??? Thanks for watching and God bless.

A Delorean is good for a few hundred years, but to get back from 20222, you need a Peterbilt!

This put a special smile on my face. A man is lucky to have a friend he can call night or day and they will come running no matter how far to help. I have had 4 in my life. 2 are gone now, but one of the two remaining dropped in for a visit just a week ago today. Friends since the early 1970's and when he pulled in the driveway we picked up like we had seen each other an hour ago instead of a year ago.

NOTE TO SELF: When you spread gravel in a lot, COMPACT IT before trucks get stuck.

You can't compact gravel. It is best to spread it on compacted soil and should not be deeper than 6 inches.

Amazing how people just pop back into your life. A few years ago, I passed a woman and her kids on the side of the highway. I went back to see if I could help and the woman said her husband was on his way. For her sake and my peace of mind, I decided to stay close until her husband came. When he got there, I left my truck to see if I could help. Turns out, him and I went to Jr. High together and knew some of the same people. Small World.

This reminds me of a couple of incidents in my life In 2002 I ran into a high school classmate while on force protection duty in Vilseck,Gernany and in 2005 I ran into one of my old platoon leaders at Camp Beurhing,Kuwait.

That's incredible! I still have 6 from preschoolers still keep in touch with me (That's over 53 years ago), and lots of them from other elementary school in both California and Colorado, as well JR High and high school that are at least 40 years ago. Totally of 150 old school friends still in touch with me. Also some from my military times still yakking with me.

A free tip with plugging XLR connectors (like the power connector on the remote) that may help after long day or night: grab the plug, get it aligned kinda straight and where you think the alignment lug should line up. It won't, of course. While pressing in lightly, rotate the plug around until the lug lines up and it will drop in. Saves a bunch of staring at things in the dark when your eyes aren't working as well as you think they should be.

Have somewhat of a similar story to share. I recently started a new job, and shared it on Facebook. A friend I went to college with about 16 years ago saw the post and reached out, saying he works at the same company! We’re in different departments, but still see him in the office on occasion and say hi to each other

Hey Ron, use a dab of white out or white paint marker on the charge plug and side of the remote to help align the connector.

Ya know, sometimes I think we have those random meetings because He wants to remind us of the path we've walked. I've had a few of those over my career, with both friends and enemies. Some good stories, one or two bad stories.... But for the most part, it was good to have a chance to see those people. Some have stayed in my life, and others were only visiting for the day. But in almost every case, it was obvious that He was the one pulling the strings to make it happen.

Got myself stuck on some loose gravel, sitting nice and purdy on the gravel, but kept slippin and diggin. Called the shop, said stuck on gravel, send the service truck to bump me off, or pull me out with a chain. Half hour later, I see this triaxle wrecker comin over the hill. I’m thinkin “oh they didn’t”. Amber lights come on “oh they did”. Operator was ecstatic when I pointed out that I wasn’t even sunk, just pull me out. A wheel lift could have done that.

Some of the Swift drivers could learn a few things from this guy. If you get stuck, or if the trailer is hung up on something, stop. Don't make it worse trying to rock the truck out. We all make mistakes. That's how we learn to do the job right.

Back in the late 1980s, I befriended a lady while I was going to college. After graduation, we did stay friends and in touch for a few years. Then her husband died. She and I drifted apart. A year or so later, I was running KLS&C 85 on a freight run delivering a box car to a customer in Hartford, MI. I went with the conductor into the plant to see where they wanted us to spot the car. On our way out, I saw a man and woman walking towards us. About 20 feet away we recognized each other. She came running towards me and jumped up into my arms and I caught her. My Navy Reservist conductor was shocked at the sight! He ribbed me about doing better than the Navy with girl friends in ports! He gave me time to spend a few more minutes with her as she was closing up the semi trailer from the trucker she was with. Sadly, that is the last time I saw her. I am glad you got more time to catch up with your school buddy!!!!

I saw a semi incident today that would have made a great video for you. A tandem semi lost the trailer off of the dolly making the right turn onto US 131 south. The trailer ended up in the soft grass for the front with the nose into the ground. The rear was way high with the rear axel in the air. That would have been fun for you. You would have come up with a cute title for that I am sure.

Nice to see a friendly a face from the past. If that other area isn't part of the truck stop or can't handle trucks they really should have it roped off. Glad to see you and your friend have wound up on the path of righteousness (barring the occasional detour that happens to all of the faithful).
