I swear if Roy Jones and Tyson made a "how to" boxing fundamentals DVD program or something, that shit would sell like hot cakes. Both the MMA and Boxing crowd would eat it up.

I mean yes, but the thing is the techniques they employed only worked because of the freakish physical tools they had. Their speed, power and explosiveness were beyond anything even extremely athletic people can hope to have. You have to base your game off a realistic assessment of your physical attributes so for my money, I want to learn from someone who achieved greatness through their technique and IQ in spite of average physical tools. Like LeBron vs Steph Curry in basketball.

Do you understand the timing, rythm, reflexes, and endurance it takes to work that crazy (double end) bag in that fashion? Hand eye coordination is one thing, but Roy possess a pure gift. You could literally blind fold him and he'll land those combinations by just hearing the sound of the wind after the first punch.

Amir khan, keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Trim Bradley, Jesse Vargas all got great handspeeed but Roy's hand speed is two weight classes bellow than what he was. Example Roy at HW had hand speed of a LHW

faster than fly weights son
@jcudjoe365 жыл бұрын
Not faster than Floyd's hands though. He does throw combos the fastest though but single punch speed, is definitely Floyd
@KingJachai5 жыл бұрын
Thanos Brady Roy in his prime was faster than Ray Leonard, according to Leonard himself. Not just hand speed, but also reflexes and foot speed. Floyd didn’t do as many mega combo flurries like Roy did either.

the craziest part might be that all these clips are from when he was like 10 years past his prime. If you ever saw some of the build-up HBO clips of what he could do back in like 1993-1999 it was incredible.
@richieray0410 жыл бұрын
This is a post prime jones mostly between 39-43. Idk how he was when he had the head band on maybe 34-36 but the crazy thing is he still has better hand speed than most 147 pounders in their prime and he's at LH and cruiser in this montage. I want to see training vids of him when he was at 160-168 prime omg.
@RafaelCDet9 жыл бұрын
I think he was at 37 with the headband. Anyway, at 1:09 he was 41. That is some INSANE speed for a 41 y/o guy.

Roy was the only Boxer I've ever seen throw full punches on the double end bag with consistent accuracy. Most if not all the rest, shorten up their punches for the sake of speed. Not Roy. And he do the same with power punches. Sick!
