His run from '94 - '03 when he defeated Ruiz for a piece of the heavyweight titles was the greatest 10 year run of any fighter in history. He won more fights than he lost rounds.

Roy Jones in his prime had a aura where each fight was anticipated as an execution, and the final outcome inevitable. Moving from middleweight to heavyweight is not a easy task. He was dominant, fast and had other worldly reflexes. He was completely in control of his unique gifts and used them intelligently and strategically. Roy Jones is right up there with the top tier all time greats. As always these are my personal home-recordings, so if you enjoyed the video leave a like and subscribe for more rare quality footages and coverages on legends of the greatest sport on earth.👊

If yer gonna talk about Roys gifts you have to be talking about him as a boy, when he started. Other than that what we are looking at is what he earned, the talents he acquired throughout the years upon years of amateur sparring & competition where he acquired his many talents & developed the all time great skills we know him for. Saying Roy had "Natural Gifts" n that was the secret of his success is almost as ignorant as a fool who once tried to tell me Marvin Hagler was successful because he had long arms. Gifts, physical attributes & appitide for the sport might win you a regional novice title in the amateurs if you are very lucky. Beyond that you are looking at the product that blood, sweat & tears, manical dedication & hard work produced. Roy, like prime Ali & Robinson made it look easy but make no mistake, it was a demonic work ethic, psychotic devotion & iron will that got them to the top, & kept them there.
@SPIDERM0OSE
@SPIDERM0OSE 2 жыл бұрын
Mayweather has fought for less titles & has won less titles than Roy Jones, no matter what his padded stage managed record says. Im talking WBA/C/O, IBF, Ring Magazine & or lineal Titles only. Also one of Mayweathers fights was for two WBC titles in different weights so you cant really count that in your tally seeing as it was the rematch with Maidana who had never fought for or held a title in the weight class Mayweather was "Defending". If you ignore the DQ in Roys record his "Unbeaten" run is more impressive than Mayweathers & he never made anyone fall asleep while watching him !
@kuwaitisnotadeployment1373
@kuwaitisnotadeployment1373 2 жыл бұрын
@@SPIDERM0OSE yeah I know but I dont put much weight behind all these alphabet belts. When you can have 5 lightweight champions with 2 of them holding the exact same belt it kinda ruins the prestige of championships. Even though we who got to watch Jones Jr and Mayweather's career know, what most people are going to judge them off of in the future is there records. No matter how boring Mayweather's fights were, especially as his career progressed , his undefeated record is impressive and is why he WILL be considered one of the greatest to ever do it. No matter how much you, me, or anyone else dislike him. REAL SERIOUS BOXING FANS WILL KNOW THE TRUTH but that's a very small percentage of people that claim to love boxing.

G.O.A.T In My opinion, I have been an avid boxing fan since 79...and watched countless of boxers from before 79... Roy Jones was THE most physically gifted fighter that I have ever seen. lol is that what they told you ... Roy Jones fought zero times in his prime outside the States .. he admitted himself in an interview he wouldn't fight Eubank because it was a hard fight and there was no money in it. Steve Collins wrote a book about chasing Jones across America and still resents him to this day for not fighting. The list of fighters he missed is endless he was basically a North American champion. Everyone wanted to fight him apparently he was the money man from collins book. A faded and aged Calzaghe (his hands were shot) beat a faded Roy Jones (about the same age) in his back garden the US at least he traveled at the end of his career. Maybe Roy was just the best maybe he could have beaten everyone but there is a long list that wasn't given a chance. I was a casual boxing fan about the time of Roy Jones, no youtube so with millions of others .. never heard of him .. true story .. then is when boxing started to die. Sure all the hardcores knew him but still sad I never follow golf but I know who Tiger Woods is, does Woods only play in the US against a subset of golfers? Everyone has heard of Mike Tyson he'd go into you're back garden and kick your ass but by Jones's time America only as everyone else in the world would be beaten so no point actually proving it apparently only in boxing would this happen. Believe what you want I don't care but he could have made the rest of us care .. Calazaghe was a really good fighter and Jones would never fight him earlier as it was a tough fight with no money in it :-(

As the other guy in the comment above said, Roy Jones JR was a good fighter, in my personal opinion he was the best and maybe in his prime, he might have beaten Joe Calzaghe, but we'll never know because it was definitely Roy that avoided Joe until Joe went to the States. Now personally i believe that Roy would have won had they fought earlier, but i also think that Roy was a bigger coward overall as a person. Especially in his early career, later on he was more gritty and willing to get dirty, but in his younger days, i felt he was a bit of a poser, the light heavyweight version of Prince Naseem.

Myth: a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature. For everyone crying about the word ‘myth’
@johnbuell8035
@johnbuell8035 2 жыл бұрын
It’s the ‘without a determinable basis of fact’ that makes even this definition of myth unsuitable for Roy’s story. Aside from the associations with Demi-gods and supernatural beings, a myth is basically something that never really happened. I think Roy’s opponents know that he was real. And if we’re going to talking about words and language, to say that people who think ‘myth’ is the wrong choice of word are ‘crying’ is moronic.

I never saw the greatest fights live. I always watched new fighters I watched with an apprehension. Is this the real deal? Like Ali? Foreman? Tyson? Barrera? Morales? Tommy Hearns? First fight I saw of RJJ - I was grinning ear to ear. This here is a god! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! A joy to watch!

His win over Virgil Hill is so underrated. Never hear it talked as one of his best wins. And Hill was a great fighter.

How no Toney in this was his hardest fight ever even by his own words and he dominated
@SPIDERM0OSE

Toney done little or nothing to him. His first fight with Tarver was his toughest, that he didnt lose. Lou De Valle scored a great knock down against him in their fight but Toney was a comfortable nights work for him.

@@SPIDERM0OSE More reason to have him in it. Roy dominated but Tony was the best boxer he faced. That was the time he was untouchable. But Roy even said himself he was the best boxer he has ever faced.

@@allenwaldon7914 Technically he may have been the best, the fighter with the best performances vs 1 or 2 high level fighters like Michael Nunn at that time. But even as a 2 weight champ Toney was unconvincing. Reggie Johnson took him to a disputed decision just before or just after he beat Nunn & even in the Nunn fight he was getting a boxing lesson until he landed that hook in the 11th. By the time Jones fought him it would be a toss of tye coin as to who was the better Roy Jones opponent, Hopkins or Toney ? Roy made em both look pedestrian. Both went on to do great things after losing to Roy. After Toney, Roy went the distence with a faded McCallum who had 3 close disputed fights with Toney, so now thats 4 fighters all at least as good as Toney was at the time Roy fought em. All multi weight World Champs, all slick crafty boxers, all went the distance with prime Roy Jones n all were comfortably outclassed. His biggest win was vs Ruiz. His toughest fight, if it wasn't Ruiz it was vs Tarver 1. Roy can say watever he likes about who he likes but the James Toney he fought wasn't the James Toney the myth n legend he is today, he was actually quite ordinary compared to the top fighters of his era & region.
