Roy Khan appears singing at a wedding
.
Roy Khan leaving Kamelot, 23. Apr., 2011
Norwegian singer Roy Khan (full name: Roy Sætre Khantatat) has officially announced his departure from the American melodic metal band KAMELOT. His statement on the matter follows below.
"Dear fans and friends,
"There have been a lot of speculations around why I am not touring with KAMELOT and I want to make a statement although it may not prevent further guessing as to what's actually going on. It is a fact, however, that I told the guys in the band already last fall (well after my burnout) that I was leaving the band. Naturally enough, they were shocked (as was the label and everyone else working with KAMELOT). In addition to risk of dropping ticket sales, they wanted to give me time to think things over, and so I did. My decision still stands; it is finished.
"I am currently spending time with my family in Norway taking it easy and wondering profoundly what the future is going to bring. Communication with the outer world has been so and so, but I have had several talks with Thomas [Youngblood, KAMELOT guitarist/mainman] along the way, although I am still called in sick.
"I am terribly sorry that my decision is affecting so many others and I want you to know I wish the band and associates all the best for the future and that I enjoyed every second in the spotlight. How could I not?! They were nourished by the best fans in the world!
"I am eternally thankful for everything you and KAMELOT have given me and equally sorry that it has to end here. The good news is; God was there after all...

Simplemente me encantó.

Can you hear the sirens resound? From the coastline of Ireland tonight It's the song of a promising heart Of the souls that the ocean unite And she stands by the window alone Staring into the rain She is trying to guide his way home From the waters that keep them apart So she lights up a candle for hope to be found Captive and blind by the darkness around Firm as a mountain, she never will mourn Timeless awaiting the break of dawn Can you hear the sailor man's hymn? As it comes with the rise of the tide It is sung where the rainbow begins As a comfort for the tears she has cried She remains by the window alone Staring into the rain She is trying to guide his way home Keeps on praying for god to protect him She lights up a candle for hope to be found Captive and blind by the darkness around Each wave a promise, a new hope reborn Sunrise consoles at the break of dawn

Incredible! Church is a good place for him because he truly has the voice of God. Still, I would have picked a different song for my wedding. This is a sad tale about a woman who's lost her husband to sea, and hopes and prays that one day he will be returned to her. This was recorded just after Khan left Kamelot and proves that his voice was as sharp as ever. Many people claimed after some poor live performances with Kamelot that he'd lost it. I think it had to do more with the fact that he was just seriously burned-out having done the Kamelot thing for so long. So I sincerely 'hope and pray' that Khan will return in some form or fashion and sing us 'a song of prosperity' for his many dedicated and adoring fans.

I only hope whatever issues he had did not make him want to give up music and singing completely... and that this video is not the last. Because that would be truly sad.:( Take care, our Pharaoh. Probably my favorite, the most beautiful voice in this universe.

Tell him that all his fans say HI! and that we hope he is doing great, that he is healthy and happy. Tell him that we still cherish in our heart all his music, and no matter what he is immortal to us. If you can actually pass this to him I will be eternally grateful to you friend. Regards

I will not say that he "forgot" his metal life, but that he choose a new way of life, more in accordance with himself :)

I never got to see him live. I would have killed to hear him sing Abandoned, Elizabeth, and just about anything else. Tommy's great and all, but with Roy Khan as the lead singer, it packs a emotional punch.

I loved PFTP, and yes didn't have that many high vocals as in EPICA, THB but again he proved me that he didn't need those things to still be amazing I thought before that him not being able to sing like that before was scaring me but the fact that I won't hear his voice again kills me. I hope you are doing fine Roy but let me tell you that you have fans out there waiting to be inspired like in all these years. If you are singing please try to share with us. God bless you man, you are the best!

I appreciate your response! There's definitely an air of mystery around his departure. I remember Thomas saying that Roy would go back to his family whenever he had time off Kamelot, so family is definitely a factor. I agree, he deserves rest. No one can have a career that intense and not get worn out. I just wish it's temporary.
