Leonora is one of the most well-rounded and sophisticated characters in all of Verdi’s operas… how she is tortured by seeing the blood of her father, the father who’s dying words were curses at her… her journey of guilt, repentance, and love is breathtaking to watch on stage.

I went to watch a retransmission in a cinema yesterday : exquisite, wonderful, powerful are the only words that come in my mind to describe this masterpiece and this performance. The singers were all perfect: even if some things about Netrebko sometimes bother me, I can but admit that she was perfect. Not to mention Kaufmann, definitely my favorite tenor.

I was fortunate enough to be in the audience at the ROH on april 02 for this "Forza" . This will stay in my memory as one of the most incredible evening of singing I have heard in the last few years. Kaufmann, Tezier, Furlanetto and Netrebko were absolutely fantastic.

This performance it's history. I'm sure!! Enchanting see La Forza... These music tragic in persecution continues to the personages.. The psychology studio, the greats, greats singers... Historic!!

I prefer the cast in an earlier Munich "Forza" (Kaufmann, Tezier, Harteros) Going to see the Met "Forza" next month (Lise Davidsen as Leonora!)

At 82 years old I guess I am from another age !!! I can see from the clip that this is a very dramatic and perhaps exciting representation of the opera , but I still prefer the former more historic period representation . I saw La Forza Del Destino live at the Comunale Theatre , Florence , with Franco Corelli and Ilva Ligabue in 1967 , Corelli apart , Ligabue was entrancing physically and vocally as Leonora , Corelli in his finest youthful voice .

I think Leo Nucci is a very good traditional opera director . I saw his production of La Boheme at Modena 2019 and enjoyed it very much . A well directed opera goes a long way to make up for singers who may not be the finest of this day and age . The Drama is in the musical score and libretto , it is not for directors to impose their own interpretation that contrasts with the original story .

They must to make it a dvd so the hole world enjoy it

J'ai vu l'opéra à la Royal House le 22 avril. Je n'ai pas aimé la mise en scène, ni la Netrebko. Une piètre actrice, une voix puissante qui ne me transmettait aucune émotion.... La voir grimper sur la table était plutôt grotesque. Rentrée à la maison, j'ai réécouté la Callas qui chantait quelques "arie" de l'opéra: quelle différence, quelle magie!

Producers continue to wreak havoc on Opera Masterpieces. They use a computer action called Copy-Paste in order to further their trade and appease the public hunger for something new. Had Verdi written music to a bare skeleton of a story such as a young woman falls in love with a young man of whom her father and brother disapprove. The young suitor accidentally kills the father and must flee for his life. The young woman enters a monastery as a monk to atone for her apparent misdeed. Her brother swears vengeance. In a twist of fate, brother and lover become friends. Brother discovers his friend's true identity and is wounded in a duel with the lover. The latter, in repentance, becomes a priest. The brother, having survived the duel hunts down his sworn enemy and is fatally wounded in the ensuing duel. The priest who knows of the monk's existence summons the latter to administer last rites. The brother fatally stabs the monk/sister. Any production that satisfies these facts is acceptable. But Verdi specified that the action takes place during the war of Austrian Succession in the mid 18th century. The atmosphere of the historical period is full of smells, textures and social mores that attend to that period - specifically. How can the producer disregard these facts? On what basis does the producer flagrantly ignore the connection that the composer himself makes between the music and the events? Had a generous philanthropist donated a sizable amount of money for a specific cause and the receiver used the funds for a different purpose, the receiver would most certainly have been charged with misappropriation of funds! And yet, the moguls of the operatic community continue their practice. Does this not smell of fraud?

anna looks very strange! did she have a face lift? of course she has not the voice for Leonora in Forza.

No, the real question is: why is it casting that useless Netrebko in it??

Ángel de Saavedra, 3rd Duke of Rivas---it's funny no one mentions him. His source play was the first great/successful Romantic Spanish play. I disagree with the baritone's off-base assessment that his character is so bad. After all, his sister was running away from home in an illicit sexual relationship and her lover killed his father. The culture of the time demanded restituion, and he was obliged by Spanish honor to do what he did. He's just as swept up in the remorseless eddies of 'fate' as the other characters.

Has the conductor lost him mind. The way he way making ugly weird sounds as he was playing piano, than conducting horrible production, and if these are the worlds top singers except for maybe tenor, the opera world is in trouble!

Although modern, this production seems to be something I could tolerate, as opposed to that horrible, crappy, offensive one just introduced at the Met. I was looking forward to seeing it, especially because I adore Brian Jadge, whom I saw in Aida twice, but not even him can make me suffer through four hours of a horror show.
