For anyone who is unfamiliar with surplus 7.62x39, if you run any ammunition with corrosive primers, you’re going to need to rinse the barrel, bolt, and firing pin with water after using it. Then dry the parts and apply a small amount of oil.

That's good because I didn't buy a cheap rifle to shoot expensive ammo.

Put iron sights on it and I will buy one

Off topic here but you guys need to release this rifle with iron sights. I think it would help fulfill the "Ranch" nomenclature that it has.

Ruger would sell a hell of a lot more of them if they accepted AK mags and maybe had some iron sights.

I think one of these is going to be my next gun purchase. I have a AK I already reload Brass ammo for and I prefer shooting bolts. I just love my 300 Blackout Ruger American with my suppressor and 153 grain cast powder coated bullets with Trail Boss powder. Great sub sonic round and only cost 6 cents a round.

I want to want one of these but will wait until they've been out long enough to establish a record with the steel cased ammo. Any gun chambered in this caliber should not only function with the steel cased "military" spec ammo it should be designed around it. The inexpensive bulk steel cased ammo is what makes this caliber cool. I have 5 rifles in this caliber and none have fired a single round of brass cased ammo. If I buy a bolt gun in this caliber I will likely only run steel. If I'm going to pay 15-20 buck for a box of brass cased ammo. It's going to be 30-06 not 762x39

I absolutely loved the story about the ammo.

My very first round from the little ranch failed to extract, not eject, extract. It was older Norinco steel. I honestly didn't look for a CIP stamp but had picked that ammo first because the box was stamped " for hunting use," and it was Boxer primed. Ironically, this ammo brings a premium on GB. Norinco 122gr SP silver box. After removing the bolt, which had overrode the case head, I douched the chamber from the muzzle with ballistiol, then tapped out the stuck case with an old cleaning rod. Wolf, Tula, and Barnaul runs fine.

is it OK? I bought it specifically to shoot steel cased ammo... It's amazingly accurate with cheap ammo.

The most accurate ammo I've found is remanufatured surplus from Burnal . It's fantastic, and I bought 2k rounds of it during the primer shortage in 2020. It's fmj, but I get just under 2 inch groups regularly with a 4x leupold. 🎉🎉🎉

Crazy! I will vouch for his comment about buying ammo of unknown origin! I bought 7.62x39 where the BOXES have an alphabet that I am clueless in and, YES, it would not function in my run of the mill AK-47 which normally eats anything. It was through an uncle of a friend of a friend of a friend or something along those lines. LOL!!!! All I know is that there is someone out there laughing and saying “SUCKER”!!!!

Will light primer strikes be a problem with steel cased ammo like the mini 30 or did you fix that problem in this new bolt gun?

I think it’s a good idea to break in your gun before running steel case. The first round I fired. Being steel case non corrosive jammed and broke my extractor…. Thought Ruger was quality… sloppy bolt.

Does Ruger offer a standard American Rifle with a longer barrel in 7.62x39 or only the Ranch variant?

I just got one and it’s a great 200 yd gun cheap to shoot accurate very good suppressed they sell out at academy almost immediately. Get one.!!🇺🇸

7.62 x 39mm combloc can be shot out of just about anything its chambered for, but just remember to treat it as all ammo is corrosive.

It might just be me, but I noticed tulammo (7.62x39) had more kick than my Winchester or fiocchi. But had my best grouping with fiocchi Brass so I'll stick with that

why not recommend a stronger firing pin spring to avoid light primer strikes?

I've honestly never had an issue with Wolf or Tulammo. The only steel cased ammo I've had jam a Ruger was Silver Bear. Granted that's steel case with a zinc finish, but still.

Tapered bottle neck cartridges like 7.62x39 were designed around steel cased ammo and any firearm that is chambered for the cartridge will chamber and fire steel cased ammunition. When you factor in the manual operation and camming action of a bolt action it should be a no brainer that this rifle will function with all x39mm ammo. That the comments section is a complete shit show says more about peoples lack of a deeper understanding about firearm physics than it does anything else.

Thats great news !!! I will not buy a gun that will have issues of shooting whatever ammo available in said caliber . I have been wanting a mini 30 for quite some time but for the price of gun and then the chance of it not firing every round and having to mod it would tick me off to no end . So I have steered clear . If ruger would make the mini 30 to fire this ammo they would sell more of the mini !!!

i had to Flitz the bolt on my rifle for a week just to get the bolt to cycle :( should have bought a CZ 527. wished Savage still made a x39 bolt rifle....................nice cheap rifle but the back end of my bolt is plastic and out of the box it sucks. varnish coated cases sticks in chamber too :(

The problem with the 7.62x39 Ruger American is with the magazine follower and spring. Bullets will nose-dive down into the magazine when being fed. A stronger magazine spring helps alleviate this problem. Still, Ruger should address this.
