I was curious about the title to this song, and after some hunting, I suspect the intended root word is Paramnesia, which means "a memory-based delusion or confabulation, or an inability to distinguish between real and fantasy memories."

I'm pretty sure it's an island from susumu hirasawa's imagination. the song title is island door, nesia or nēsoi means islands, like micronesian means little islands or Indonesia means indian islands. and the word para it can translates to many things depends on the language used for this word, or maybe it's just him naming this island paranesia
@knightshousegames
@knightshousegames 8 ай бұрын
@@joshuahendra4918 It could also be a pun on the original meaning with your naming scheme in mind He does however name the island in the very first line of the song, "Tobira - A land of 3000 nautical miles seen in dreams" The Paramnesian Circle seems to refer to a ritual, not the place where it happens, at least based on how the lyrics talk about it.

A sequel would be cool because, well, more Ruiner. But story-wise I think it can stand without one. I mean, thinking about everything that the ending led up to... Spoilers obviously below: You've been broken loose the shackles of everything that held you and was controlling you. You're free from who you thought you were, and drive into the night. Will you try and meet Her, at "where heaven falls", and see what lies in store? But remember, in the end it turns out she was deceiving you as well for Her own ends. Does she really have your own best interests at heart? Maybe you'll just keep on driving, and take your own road into the future. Become as free as anyone can be in this world, and choose your own path. But what if your actions have made you some powerful enemies? Can you face them alone? Either way, I like the ambiguity. I wouldn't complain about a sequel though, naturally. It's a damn good game. Hell, it doesn't have to have the same protagonist, though I hope it does because that face mask is sweet.

Have you ever heard a song that better embodies the mood of a cyberpunk setting than this? Would love to hear more of this kind of cerebral cyberpunk type stuff if anyone has any recommendations. Searching this kind of music usually pulls up something a bit too heavy and with too much "thump" to it. The blend of soft synthesizer and that Japanese cultural sound is just too amazing. (Also, this song on repeat just got me through seven hours of writing a research paper)

Well, you should listen to Hirasawa's other stuff, as well as his band P-Model's music. This song is from Susumu's solo album Aurora, which funnily enough tried to stray away from the sci-fi themes of previous albums, going for more "instinctive" and "mythical" music. I actually never really associated this song with cyberpunk until I heard it in Ruiner, since he has other albums that are a bit closer to my idea of cyberpunk, like Vistoron or Gipnoza, which are both set in a dystopian future, but when I think about it this song embodies the mood of a cyberpunk setting 100x better, since those albums are more on the energetic techno side. So, if you wanna get into Susumu Hirasawa's music, there's Aurora for more laid-back songs like this one, then there's Sim City and Technique of Relief, concept albums with sci-fi settings but not really cyberpunk, as well as P-Model, Big Body and Enola, some pretty energetic technopop albums, the synthpunk/postpunk/experimental trio of Potpourri, Perspective and Another Game and the dystopian trilogy of Vistoron, Gipnoza and Kai=Kai.

@HazenMire
@HazenMire 4 жыл бұрын
@@lonelyshpee7873 I think trying to stray away from sci-fi is likely why this song works so well. A big cyberpunk theme/trope is loss of humanity. This song, at least to me, sounds like a song of loss, mourning, reminiscing, nostalgia, and celebration. Rengkok South was a great backdrop for this song. It's atmosphere evoked this yearning for something lost, a little pocket of people seeking humanity in a world that you would imagine has been sucked dry of it. A lot of cyberpunk music is thought to be some kind of super bass heavy techno, and certainly that's part of it's identity. But Cyberpunk music should also evoke feelings of loss and yearning, nostalgia, etc.
@Saurygiel
@Saurygiel 2 жыл бұрын
@@HazenMire Perfectly put. I definitely agree that the more energetic "cyberpunk music" does have it's place as well, since a lot of cyberpunk deals with themes of full on hedonism. I feel like that kind of synthetic and energetic music embodies that mix of a synthetic dystopian future full of hedonistic pleasures jacking up your blood pressure, on top of all the violence. But honestly, this song captures the atmosphere at it's best: when it's at rest, and you have nothing left to do and nothing to distract yourself from the weight of a dark and dirty future covered in make-up.

Paranesian Circle isn't a new song of his, and it was in the same album Aurora with a "proto-version" of Forces, 舵をとれ, so both of them are roughly from the same time period. New songs of his are both like his 20 years old stuff and different from it...

Hirasawa's album alone should do the trick. The OST is good, but I've spent a fuckton of time with the game and this is the only track that won't ever be boring to me, no matter how many times I hear it.

This song has btw. 4 different version. The first one would be the original on Hirasawa's album Aurora, the second version is on his Haldyn Dome project (good luck finding that, or buying it for ~250$) then there is the 3rd version on his album Hen-Gen-Ji-Zai and then there is this version ofc.

You ever just play a game so different and unique that you just can't stop thinking about it? And you just want more of it? I felt that with this game. After finishing it, I was just left with a feeling I can't really describe. Kinda like emptiness but also joy. I felt that too when I beat a game called Furi. Both were so fun and had great soundtracks and I loved them both so much that when I got to the end, I wanted more of it. Though Ruiner's ending...won't spoil anything but I was left emotionally distraught lol and supposedly there's gonna be a DLC for this game that expands on it so that'll be fun. Idk this song just stood out among the others which were also great but still I love this one. Great game

The question he asked of "what are you gonna do now? Nod or shrug?" and the choices were 'Nod' and 'Shrug' fucking killed me, that was a hilarious little joke in a relatively serious ending, but it didn't feel out of place and try hard-y

I really want to start sharing this soundtrack. BUT. It's just too good to start sharing it, I don't want to ruin something this good for someone who hasn't experienced it yet. The song and the soundtrack in general is just that pristine and finely tuned. I know I'm not the only one who was awestruck when the 'shift in tone came in. I can't stop mimicking whatever he's saying. It's so fucking perfect. Thank you devolver and raik, you deserve the praise.

I'm just casually listening to various tracks of Susumu Hirasawa, as you do when you've been a fan for many years, and in the middle of work you just noticed it changed in tone and mix you never hear before and what the hell someone put one of the songs in a game?! Is this legit? I recently got the game but hadn't booted it up yet. I will lose my mind if it has this song in it.

*SPOILERS* Fun fact: The top comment on the video theorizing that the name could be an allusion of the word "Paramnesia" would genuinely fit the Story of Ruiner itself. As the protagonist, being a clone of a different man, literally suffers from implanted, I.e falsified memories. Fun fact x2: I actually listened to Ruiner's Ost perhaps years before actually getting around to play the game. I will not lie, this was one of the first songs that popped up in the ost video after Memories, and I got F L O O R E D, the song itself apart from being just downright beautiful was full of so much unique and surprising moments. Paranesian Cycle Sold the atmosphere of rengkok to me perfectly!
