It's pretty hard to find a turkey in China...so earlier this year we paid a family in a nearby village to raise turkeys for us to have for our Thanksgiving celebration this year!

Living in the far western region of Xinjiang, China has its ups and downs. Our traditional holidays are rarely the same and there have been many years where chickens have had to take the place of turkeys on our Thanksgiving day feast table.
But not this year!
Our family drove out to Wujiaqu, a small village about an hour and a half north of the Xinjiang capital of Urumqi where we live. There we found the family that we had paid (in blind faith) to raise these turkeys as cage-free, healthy fed birds.
It was a fun family experience and one that we won't soon forget. How many times do you get to go to a small village to pick out your turkey and bring him home to be cooked for Thanksgiving dinner?
That's what happens when you're an expat family in China...and that's what makes living in China such an adventure :)
