A week before this video I installed the Rusco Spin Down Filter for my well water. Now that it has had the chance to gather silt its time to flush the system.

just an idea about making it easier to drain the sediment out of the filter you could install a never freeze tap outside the foundation close to your filter and pressure tank and Plymouth in to the bottom of the filter so all you have to do is turn on the tap outside when you get home from work once a week and turn it back off so you're not having to crawl in to the crawl space every single time you want to purge the filter

That is a fun idea. It would be important to make sure it was a non freeze for sure. Those valves would also close slowly enough to keep the hammer effect from happening. My crawl space is not bad but I can see that some would use a valve and be much better. Thank you for the idea.

Thank you for the video. Good to be able to see what how it works. Couldn't help notice that the inlet pipe is steel. My plumber got rid of the steel pipes I had and replaced them with copper pipes. When doing so we saw A LOT of rust on the steel pipes (which we've likely been drinking for years - Yummy).

in the galvanized piping shown in the vid, its the lead and cadmium that leeches into the potable water. So Copper, Plastic or brass.

That would have been a good addition to my rainwater collection system. Now I am not taking it appart anymore.

When I was looking into the component I did notice that several people were using them in rain water collection. I do think that a pressure pump would be needed for best results. like a diaphragm pump.

Thank you for the video, very helpful. I just bought one but haven’t installed it yet.

Thank you for watching. This works well for larger debris. It saves the whole house filter for sure.

I wonder if you could put a hose faucet timer on it and have it flush for your automatically every week.

Mate2Frio i have seen it set up that way on other videos and it opens daily for one minute. Great idea!

Great idea! The only worry that I have is that those timers can open and close fast. This might have some water hammer issues. But seems like a nice auto clean idea.

Brass gate valve - aaaagh!! I'd replace it with a stainless steel, quarter-turn ball valve for reliability. It seems every gate valve I've ever encountered won't close completely when it comes time to shut the water off for system maintenance.
@LandtoHouse
@LandtoHouse 6 жыл бұрын
That has been my experience as well. This gate valve does not turn all the way off.

Suggestion. Leave the clean up valve open and running on little more than a trickle. It improves filtration and never need for clean out. Ive got same setup and have it open to relive 1 bar pressure (from 7.5) all year long

I would be afraid to do that with a well pump. Might burn it up. Now with gravity fed spring water and city water that might be the way to go!

Stands to reason. A big improvement regardless. Ive got spring fed water so no need to conserve

Thinking about buying one of these myself. Do you know what micron size your sediment is, and what mesh size filter did you get? My well is producing very fine silt that's coming through my 200 micron well screens. At least, assuming my well screen is totally failed and collapsed. Anyway, curious what size unit you have there, maybe the 1". This video is almost 3 years old. How's the unit holding up over time?

I use a 100 mesh. Just got off the phone with rusco. They suggest the polyester mesh. It flaps and removes debris better apparently. I have one and will be testing soon.

How is it working for you a year later? Is it worth buying a Rusco? The one that you linked to Amazon isn't being sold. I have city water, what mesh would you recommend? It looks like you used 100, but Rosco's manual suggests having two connected up, starting with a 40 Mesh; and 100 Mesh, so you would add another one in addition to the one that you have already.

Hello. I really like the Rusco. I just cleaned it yesterday haha. I will have to see about changing the link on amazon. I have this as a pre filter for the 5 micron filter on the house. I think that is what they are talking about. If it were not for the spin down I would have to change my 3 month filter every month.

I have enjoyed the Rusco but I do think that I will get the longer version. This one gets clogged after a few days. We have a lot of silt in the water.

Normally with the rusco you leave the water to the filter on. It flushes the water with force.
