I agree, and Hold Your Fire was a really odd album, there were lots of tracks that were pretty 'poppy', they changed with the times and I know many people didn't like it but Hold Your Fire and Presto I thought were great albums, you don't always need ten time changes or be seeing about incomprehensible things. I think a folky tribute version of that should be done beacsue I always hear them putting it down, although right now China is kind of not the same as it was in the eighties.

Good for you Geddy! I wish more people would speak up and let everyone know that rock and roll is NOT dead! It is far too good to die. What would take its place? Rap? Hip-hop? What a boring and psychotic world that would be! In fact, I feel sorry for kids anymore. When we grew up in the 60s and 70s there was almost an endless parade of great rock coming out of your local radio stations. I'd have to say that Rush itself is a good example of how Rush changes. When he talks about 'magnitude' of rock in the 'seventies and eighties', in the eighties even RUsh's version of 'rock' was very different than the seventies, and in the nineties it was closer to the seventies.

Yeah, can't see ANY way thats a compliment or even analagous. Rock is not dead, its just not the same anymore. Radio rock is still playing the same stuff from the eighties for some reason. Rock CAN be as simple as punk, thats people like the Ramones who know only one or two chords. There's no way there aren't a million bands putting out stuff, its just not on radio for mass consumption.

Hah, knew he was going to say Tai Shan. Im interested in some of the other choices. I get the feeling he wouldve said a couple from Caress of Steel, and Presto too. Personally the only song I really cant stand by Rush is Dog Years. Its so corny and just too silly.

I can think of a lot of Rush songs that would sound good unplugged. As for rock not being dead I totally agree. That's one of the dumbest things music journalists and others say about rock these days. No, it doesn't necessarily have the mainstream acceptance it once did but to be honest it doesn't need it. Just about any genre with more than ten fans can surive and thrive these days because of the internet.

The last question, "Is rock music dead?" is debatable. If it were dead, then the bands that have been around forever wouldn't go on tour. They wouldn't make any money and nobody would be paying today's exorbitant ticket prices to see them; especially since there is plenty of footage on youtube. The younger generations just need to be exposed to it and they'll see that it was/is far better than the garbage that's been listened to in the last 25 years.
@American-Motors-Corporation Жыл бұрын
Well by you calling the last 25 years of music garbage then technically you're saying it is dead or is that there was some sort of dead zone! I mean I'm certainly not going to defend everything of the last 25 years but I will say I'm more of the mindset that I seem to believe that there is an order generation that's primarily stuck on itself and that's why their bands are selling tickets! Is it good music yes I'm not going to deny that or even attempt to argue that it isn't good music however I can also say that like all fashions of the past including pop cultures of the past eventually it will end up on the scrap heap of society! So it's like periodically once in a blue moon I will listen to muddy Waters I'm 37 but muddy Waters probably hasn't been super relevant since the 50s and maybe a couple of comeback shows and the 60s! So you can still listen to it it's still there it's not going to go anywhere really it's just unless you yourself happen to conduct a little research and come by it nobody older may feel compelled to tell you about it honestly the majority of music that I have discovered since I was a kid my father never even heard of however my ambitions of discovering a lot of music as actually turned him on to the idea that there's more out there than just Black Sabbath Rush led Zeppelin Hendricks etc! Though I will say I did get encouragement from him after all he did happen to show me big band music though he is an avid Black Sabbath fan so everybody can sort of go and listen to the other stuff and get something out of that! So when I say it'll end up on the scrap heap of society I just mean that it's not going to be current did someday we're all going to look at KZfaq videos and go wow too bad those guys aren't around! You know it's like within the past decade it's become acceptable that in the grocery store or even at home Depot you're hearing a lot of this music whereas somewhere in the 90s I remember is a kid joking wouldn't it be cool if they played led Zeppelin or something at the grocery store or over at the lumber yard? Well now it's happening and I thought it was cool at first and it really is in one respect but on the other hand it's kind of like now it's background music at the grocery store I mean look at it from that perspective and you can't help but laugh!
@kevinmach7302 жыл бұрын
Not trying to be disrespectful the lady conducting the interview, but it this is the type of subpar interview you get when you don't do your home work as an interviewer . On the Rush fandom scale, I consider myself an 8 or 9, but in the grand scheme on things I am probably a 3-4 compared to their hardcore fans. Even I know they've been saying for years that Tai Shan is one of their least favorite songs they've recorded. Rush unplugged? Come one, a power trio driven by thunderous bass and drums doing an acoustic session? I'm sorry, I get that she is younger, but do better than just trolling the internet for questions to ask the band- or do a little research and listen to some their music. You can completely tell from their responses that they did not consider the questions very thought provoking or interesting. The only good question I thought she asked that you couldn;t Google was advice for aspiring musicians- But somewhat redudnant, because obviously what was done 50 years ago has little bearing on how things are done today.
