Russian Aircraft Losses in the 2008 Georgian War, Part 1

In August 2008, a war broke out between Georgian government forces and the breakaway province of South Ossetia. Russia immediately joined in on the side of the latter. Russian Air Force was heavily involved flying close air support, interdiction and other types of sorties. It also experienced heavy losses in this short conflict. How many aircraft were downed, which types were they and which weapons were used against them? Find out in this video.

the russians attacked not just to protect the ossetians but also their peacekeepers who were under attack by georgian forces...also the fact that both sides used the Su 25 as the main attack aircraft friendly fire was inevitable

There's a very interesting clip of a Russian MIG-29 shooting down a Georgian drone on youtube. Rare as the drone captured the flight of the incoming missile until it was destroyed. Also some pics out there of the Russians taking US Humvees that were due to be shipped back to the US after a joint exercise, and pics of them destroying a large cache of US supplied M-4 rifles the Georgians had. Not taking a side in this- just interesting video and pics to look up if you follow the recent conflict in the region.

One of the Su-25 was landed in airfield after being hit by Igla. It's left engine was damaged and flew on the right.

Great creative format using DCS to reenact modern conflicts. We see these machines showcased at airshows all over the world but many don't realize how many air engagements and casualties occurred since ww2 in modern conflicts.

You know a game has good graphics when it simulates a scene that actually has live video made of it, and you can't tell that the live video isn't still part of the game.

When both sides use the same equipment and weapons, mix ups will occur. "Is that one of ours or one of theirs?" "I don't know. Shoot anyway, just in case."

It’s scary how easily a super modern, very expensive, airplane can be brought down by a MANPAD. Every mission you have to be thinking … this could be my last.

I was in Iraq when this happened. I was coming back to Iraq from leave. I saw some delta guys getting ready to get on the aircraft. They were wearing different camo patterns. I said they are going somewhere different. One of them smiled at me. I am not saying that it is where they were going. It seemed very odd DELTA guys who were operating in the desert would be wearing a woodland camo.

When both sides shared the very same weapons, same tactics it turned immidiately to an icredible mess no wonder there was some friendly fire incident! another fantastic job Showtime 112 can't wait to see the next part!

The TU-22M3 is my Favourite Bomber Plane of all time. My second Favourite is the Tupolev TU-160 (or as designated by NATO-Blackjack). My 3rd Most Favourite Bomber Of all time is the "B-2" Stealth bomber. Bombers are my Most Favourite after the Fighter type Aircrafts(like in e.g . F-15, F-16, Gripen, SU-30 SM, SU-27, SU-57) , Helicopters (Like Apache, MI-24 etc).
