all things considered, it was in pretty good condition to begin with. I appreciate how you kept all the original pieces of the blade that you could. I have a great deal of respect for the relics of WWII, and I think they should be kept as close to the original as possible. amazing video, keep up the good work :)

for future reference,when you blue something if you soak in oil ( pretty much any will do) for about 24hrs it will make it much more corrosion resistant than just the bluing alone. great job on this look forward to more vids!

@laurentdevaux5617 2 жыл бұрын
You're perfectly right ! I NEVER saw a WW2 Garand bayonet with its parts polished or blued. It's a tool made for war, not an artpiece ! Moreover, parkerize a bayonet with a very good finish is easier than to obtain a good finish with cold blue. Just soak your metal parts in a strongly concentrated oxalic acid solution for one or two days, rinse with water and gently oil them.

Nice to see you care for historical things. I would have suggested less sanding, particularly on the sheath. This is a step that too often ends up taking off too much material. Also, you used a cold bluing whereas the original finish was more likely Parkerized. That process gives a much different look but blends in with the olive drab colors used by the military.

Well for starters if you find one don’t do what he did. Don’t take it apart and DO NOT grind or sharpen it. He ground the markings off which makes it less valuable plus everything he did to it has made it worth $50 or less.
