The new Wago 207-4301 heating junction box simplifies the installation of central heating and hot water systems. In this video, we run through the wiring of an s-plan system for hot water and a single-zone central heating system.
We include a step by step wiring diagram and a link to a downloadable version.
The Wago heating junction box is available fully populated or as a chassis to configure your own terminal block arrangement. We build this version from Wago 221 - 3 and 5-way variants to create what we believe is a logical layout for s-plan heating systems.

That's a wonderful walkthrough. Easy to understand and well presented. Nice to see someone using heat shrink labels - I work in data centres, and unlabeled cables are the bane of my life.

This is way better than the previous one that was too small. Most systems come with a wiring center PCB now though. It's also competing on cost with shoving everything in terminal blocks and a box so it will be rare to see.

In my opinion a Rittal Sheet Steel Metal Enclosure with some dinrails and phoenix contacts and some proper glands would look better. But everything has his price. I liked this video !

Excellent video of wiring traditional heating systems. Never come across tidy or labelled wiring centres like this. It's usually a mess. I alway label each cable but this wago box is next level and will most definitely incorporate it into my new installs. Keep up the great videos gents.

Great Video will be fitting the 207 4301 very soon to our 3 port valve Y system. This to replace the "rats nest" that was left in a small 100mm x 100mm (?) metal box!

That takes up a lot of wall space compared to the screw terminal variety, something that can often be in short supply. The Honeywell 10 terminal box that many will have in their houses is 40mm x 104mm, whilst that one (assuming I've identified it properly) is 225 x 145mm, or almost 8 times the area.

We’ve seen installers ram all of connections in to a dual gang box with blank plate - not pretty!

Great videos lads. EPH Controls supply a similar wiring diagram for their systems and all stats are wireless.

My heating was 'professionally' installed and it was a nightmare of miswiring (h/w was not controllable), loose connections and screws bearing down on CPC insulation. This all came to my notice when the 2-port zone valve for the H/W was not operating. I replaced the manual system with a Hive system and ripped out the old wiring centre to fit the WAGO one. Looking at your diagram, though, there was some confusion, not least because the labelling in the PDF differs from the video but also over the 'boiler' connection. In the video, you imply that the boiler connection is power for the boiler but this can't be so. The connection (top-left) cannot be a permanent Line because this would make the Pump and the two orange wires from the zone valves also permanent Line. It must be carrying the signal from the microswitches on the orange wires to signal to the boiler that the valves have completed their opening, likewise to the pump. My Vaillant has a single 'boiler' connection and controls the pump internally, so no wire. If my understanding is correct, you are not showing a permanent Line for the boiler. My installation is based upon yours but I have a permanent Line for the boiler and the 'boiler' conductor (your top-left brown conductor) is the signal to the boiler, and all works perfectly. I appreciate the efforts you've gone to and getting the heads-up on the WAGO box was a real winner but you may want to clarify the 'boiler' connection.

We did this on the last days of college. Some had problems getting there head around it. For pump and boiler wiring having two. I look at it and think why it all easy. Then I remember on the commodore Vic 20. A pach out bard with realy switching and feed back from tank thermostat. To me it just a bunch of switches. Boiler don't need to be on just the pump why have the boiler on if the tank is hot only need to pump it round for heating. Or pump out for hot water. Coming from a background of electronics made this part so easy. Also from fixing washing machines with mechanical timers. No water pressure switch is open heater will not ever come on. But will spin and pump water out water pressure on the heater can come on.

Still would have wired in CPC first, Neutral 2nd, Permanent Line and all switched Lines last. I like the ferrules always looks good. Labelling 👌

If you had a second zone on the heating, would you need another 221 for the stat and additional zone valve, and then plug the orange wire into boiler/pump?

Im soon to be attemting my wiring on a new install. My system has my heating on one zone and hot water on a second it will comprise of an.. EPH wired time clock (2 zone ember) to include a wirless room stat and cylinder stat 2 motorised valves Wired cylinder stat Im presuming the above diagram would suit ?

I followed your links to buy the appropriate Wago connectors (3-way and 5-Way). Re-watched the video to assemble the connectors and it states in the video you only use 2-way and 5-way, you do not need any 3-way, arghhhhhhh, never mind, the 3-way will do 🙂

I've to wire.... 2x boilers 4x zone valves 4x circulation pumps 1x DHW thermostat 1x UFH8-RF control box thingy.. which has 5x cables coming from it.. Oh.. and I'm not a spark.. May the force be with me... always.

obviously wagos support solid or stranded copper, but do they specifically support ferrules?

Yes - but it you would reduce the wire size if using insulated ferrules.

I like the look of that but my only comment would be that I would use the black wires ( over sleeved) for live conductors and the grey wires ( over sleeved) for the neutral conductors as this is the option widely used in the industry.

I think this wiring diagram is trying to trick us, the hot water timer has the black as the neutral and the grey as the switch line, apart from that it is very helpful.

Can you explain why the thermostat/room stat use a separate wire from the line source to the thermostat as opposed to a local link at the thermostat connections?

The Netatmo relay is hard wired with flexible cables - so doesn’t gave terminals like you see on e.g Nest - you can see more in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p595hLN9tLTPqYk.html

@@efixx so it’s mainly because the relay is nearby and therefore the “extra wire” is very short? If you were to (for a very weird reason) move that device a few rooms over and extend the cables, I would imagine you’d not keep those two line wires separate.

Needs a 10 way 221 or an official link connector. This is a power "patch panel" and it just works.

You should turn that stat up to get the boiler (indicator) fired up. That will heat the room just like our houses when we magically achieve net-zero and heat our homes the same way thanks to the government. We are going to call it “magic heating”.

im lost in wiring up my S plan, 5 hours and still cant do it 😔😔 feel awful fitted a unvented just finshed all the pipe work 3 weeks now stuck now with the wiring
