Exactly. She misread that from the moment he walked in. She offered her condolences, and he responded that “he’s full up on condolences”. Definitely did not “read the room”.
@amberlisa7365
@amberlisa7365 Жыл бұрын
@@Analysta654 Oh, she read the room alright. She knew that she was speaking to a child/teen unable to process grief feelings, and that backfired on her terribly, just because she saw that. It wasn't really her fault. Honestly, she was speaking in the way that executives tend to talk...the higher up someone is on the corporate ladder the less they tend to "Yes man" everything. Cause everything can't be "yes manned" to death. As she said, the situation was complicated, she is dealing with actors and egos, etc. She was trying to explain the problem. Logan insisted upon a lot of yes manning, and yes he got it, but he also had something else: emotional manipulation skills and incredible business savvy, his sons have neither. So none of Logan's tactics are going to work for them the way they worked for Logan...everyone isn't Trump...you don't see Trump's sons pulling the Trump thing off now do you?

The writing of this scene is genius because at first, it may appear that she genuinely cares, but on second+ watch her behavior comes across as patronizing. Her choice of words, such as "It just has not hit you yet," can be perceived as awkward, and using the phrase "it's complicated" when addressing the big boss is far from an ideal approach. Instead of easing his mind, she demands explanations on the ATN's coverage of the Mencken, despite him stating "I can't stand still". Roman senses very quickly and very fast that this is NOT going to work. He (sort of) fires her, because either she's not gonna fix anything, or won't do what he says, and he understood this in less than a minute. That is sort of what I admire about him, he can be very socially adapt and reads people extremely fast.

They were showing Roman's eyes from one side, so the light would go through making them look like lasers that scan her. He could see her treating him disrespectfully, throwing thinly disguised polite insults but didn't do anything at first. Although, noone could compete with Roman in insulting. The first time he got pissed off when she grabbed him by his shoulders like if he was a small man and not her boss. He fired her when she interrupted him not letting him finish his comment when he became vulnerable for a second. So he threw a stone with "could fire you", she laughed at it and that was it. ATN had always been a rightward-leaning network. That was nothing new. You appear to have missed the mark a bit. Here's a rundown of the theme of the show: the Roys are terrible people and morons. We know this because the things they do are terrible and moronic (we know this because characters often state out loud that they are bad people, and the kids' plans always fail.) Also, as is (also) stated OUT LOUD in the show; ATN does move further right politically. This starts with Logan picking Menken, and increases as the kids od things like falsely declare the winner of an election and remove an existing ATN segment that showed an opposing political viewpoint rather than just an echo chamber. The reason you don't understand any of this is because you are too emotionally invested in politics to be able to understand art. Which is a tragedy of the human soul and I feel incredibly sorry for you,

This is true for very low level employees, they have to agree with whatever their superiors say, but the higher someone is up the corporate ladder, the less those stipulations apply. High level executives can and do make all kinds of demands., and/or have all kins of schemes and plots. This is actually fairly typical high level corporate behavior.

I think Roman had the right idea firing her. Logan said to Shiv stiffing Menken for another candidate or the democrats is not a viable option and not good for their business. Then Logan dies and their head of Studio is doing a Shiv and trying to convince Roman to change what ATN is doing in order to avoid her mismanagement of their entertainment IP.

She did literally everything wrong. Like it's amazing. Insulted Roman, tried to sway the most right-wing sibling to the left side of political spectrum, was concerned more about values than her job, failed to convince Roman that she was serious. Like, she was just shockingly condescending and patronizing to the person who had her job in the palm of his hands. Joy deserved to get fired.

The only way I can make sense of it is that Logan kept her around to be a liberal who the "talent" etc. could work with, and he recognised that the cost was that she was just going to be patronising and passive aggressive, but that it was the cost of doing business in a left wing industry (Hollywood).

Nah he proved that he had no idea what he was talking about. Entitled nepo-baby thinks he can fix everything by just throwing money at it. She’s literally telling him in this conversation how ATN’s rightward lean is causing Waystar’s entertainment division to lose talent and cause costly rewrites and reshoots. He isn’t listening to her. She knows way more about her side of the business than a nepo baby who merely has failed upward through the company his entire life.

Quoting people that Roman probably is unfamiliar with, laughing while saying you take the situation seriously, and overall having a demeanor that says you think you are irreplaceable, this person really dug their own grave in a three-minute discussion. Everything they said I would have done it the opposite way. Don't say patronizing lines like "you are where you are for a very good reason" to the person who has the power to fire you. That is such a dumb comment to make and it makes it seem like she thought Roman didn't belong where he was. He didn't need a very good reason to be there, because he is there, so for her to make it seem like it was just dumb luck instead of Roman's natural talent that got him there displays a lack of respect towards Roman. It is clear to me at least why he fired her. She can take her fake smiles and phony pleasantries to another company and get off her high horse

This is speculation, of course, but he also didn't consider *why* Logan would keep an annoying, passive aggressive libtard around in such a high position. I would guess that Logan did so because for all her venemous passive aggression, by *being* an annoying, strident liberal woman she was able to get liberals in Hollywood to work for Logan, even if she herself didn't think of it that way.

Yes, she’s condescending but her passive aggressive attitude doesn’t come forth out of no where. She brings up a very real issue to Roman. The company is backing Menken, talent does not want to work for their productions because they do not support fascist ideologies. No amount of money Roman throws at her will change the values upheld by the artists needed to continue making productions. When she brings this up he belittles her claim and doubles down by telling her that he feels she’s not listening to him and that he’s supplying her with a bunch of funding. The money isn’t even related to the issue she brought up and he can’t even see that. She could’ve handled the situation way better than this passive aggressive mess but I felt the need to come to her defense a little here because everyone seems to think Roman is totally in the right

More cynically, I don't think Roman considers why his dad had kept her on up until then. Maybe Logan knew that her personal seething and needing to make a moral stand was just the cost of doing business, and that her being rude and passive aggressive was actually useful in that it would allow her to keep making Waystar money as a liberal who the rest of Hollywood would work with. You just gotta let the libtard lecture you and be morally indignant if you want them to keep making you money without them developing too much of a guilty conscience that they quit.

@@hehexd4557LiTeRaL fAsCiSt. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the show. The acting, pacing, and dialogue (for the most part) were all top notch. But it was obviously conceived and written by people who live in an echo chamber and can’t help but make caricatures out of anyone whose politics doesn’t mirror their own. No where is this more evident than in the election night episode. Still an amazing show, but the inability of the writers / creators to stop their biases and preconceived notions from shining through was a shame.
