S1 Silicone Puppet - Plastic Head Tutorial

This tutorial covers the making of the S1 Puppets Plastic Head.
Materials Needed
1)Sculpey
2)Lego Bricks
3)Oomoo Silicone or similar silicone product
4) WED Clay
5) Plastic Wrap
6) Tape
7) Palmolive Dish Soap (Green Color) or a Silicone Release agent.
8) 2 part plastic casting material
9) Patience

what kind of material would you suggest casting to make a flexible head for animation? I've heard that rubber latex or silicone could work. I'd also like to know if you have any favourite silicones or latex's etc that i could find on amazon or somewhere online.

Can you use the same silicone smooth -on for casting resin or that brand of mould life easy flo 60 part a&b?

Love this video really informative.This may be a strange request, I am wanting to create a human head that is about 3 inch in height, I need moving lips , eyes and eyebrows, . Is it possible to sculpey the basic and drill holes to put wire in ? then what about skin ????

Don't use Sculpey. I would suggest either making a plastic head or using wood as the base. Then drill the holes and place wire or metal paddles into it. Then cast the head in silicone or foam latex. You can even do a buildup using liquid latex and tissue but it is extremely difficult to get a professional level buildup puppet made the first time. I would stick to molding and casting.

Where did you get/how did you make the clothing for the puppet?

SuperTAK1000 I actually had a friend make it since she wanted to. Unfortunately she didn't use the proper fabric I requested and this it limits the movement of the puppet. 4 way stretch cotton is the best for cartoony type of animation and the puppet is dressed in a cotton canvas instead.... Just an FYI.

Very informative, couple of questions.. Will any strain of Sculpey do for the initial model? And what are the best paints to use on the final cast, acrylic?

I usually use Super Sculpey or Sculpey Firm, but anything will work. Yes, you would paint it with acrylic. Make sure you clean the sculpey of any oils and then prime it with a priming spray before painting. I like to use the primer used in model making and Gundaim building.
