This S2000 came needing more than expected work.
It was booked in for coil overs and an engine ticking sound , it turned out to be Mis firing badly.
We show step by step how to check for potential issues and how we go about fixing them.
This S2000 received a lot of TLC that was much needed and many items we didn’t charge for. The engine could still use an over haul but we did our best to make it run as best as possible. Sometimes going the extra mile makes for long term rewards, plus satisfaction.

I recommend Denso coil on plug units whenever you don't have known good units or don't want to pay OEM prices. While I am sure Delco and others may be made in the same factory, Denso's factory is likely the OEM supplier. I wish I knew the true product stream.

Most of the time if you go to an online OEM parts dealer it will actually list the supplier/manufacturer for things and also on some parts they have multiple supplier/manufacturers (same P/N - different manufacturer sometimes slightly different pricing). This is for OEM parts from Honda/Acura. I can't speak for the S2K but in this era Honda liked to used Hitachi for their coils.

ok honest question here - with valve adjustments I've always done all one side then all the other side (all the intake, then all exhaust for example) just making sure that the lobes are pointing straight up from the head for the valves i'm adjusting. I did this just to avoid having to swap between 2 different feeler gauges back and forth. Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this?
@LHTPerformance
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
We do it per the Honda book. Changing gauges is easier than turning the motor over, especially with a factory air box installed.

I've been experiencing the same symptoms in my car, including shaking, and it threw a P0171 code. I've tried various measures to resolve the issue, such as getting the valves adjusted three times and replacing injectors, fuel pump, plugs, coils, and other sensors. Despite these efforts, the shaking persists, and I'm still unable to pinpoint the root cause. One possibility I'm considering is that there might be a slightly burnt valve. Do you think that can solve this issue?
@LHTPerformance

I would do a leak down test and see if the valves are leaking.

Why do you think VTEC is not peppy? It looks down on power - Poor maintenance at some point? Or is it that as the miles rack up, such a power loss is unavoidable?
@LHTPerformance
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
It could be many things, some S2000s do feel slower than others, even really nice low mileage cars. We have one customer with a very clean AP2 that nearly breaks 200whp and there’s nothing out of place, runs flawlessly. Then some will make 220whp and feel very quick. 10whp is very noticeable and makes a big difference in these cars.
@deanos1993
@deanos1993 Жыл бұрын
@@LHTPerformance Thanks - Very interesting. I suppose it could also be how they were run-in? I found out mine was a dealer demonstrator. My guess was driven hard by Honda employees/prospective customers. Its an AP1, 100k miles with track use - I stopped bringing oil to the track. It burns no oil and feels quick. I know others that burn 1L/1000km!

I know the backside the cat is the hottest part of the cat. I just kept thinking. I wonder if that cat is getting super hot and cracked the front flange due to the fact that that cat is partially clogged. This could have reduced power that you’re feeling when you test drove it. Would’ve been interesting to have done a pressure test on the cat.
@LHTPerformance
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
The looked very clean, if the cat was clogged the increased heat would be on the header flange side. You can usually see a different color on the casing of the cat too.
