In Star wars Squardons, when you play as an Inperial during the Campaign, you are almost always dropped off by a Gozanti when the SSD isnt present for the Battle. Its really smooth too, from the Gozanti dropping out of Hyperspace, over dropping the Squadron, to the Gozanti re-entering Hyperspace, theres maybe 10 Seconds of Time.

Two of the ones that only really exists in the old X_Fighter games (X-wing, Tie and X-wing v Tie) and in the OG Star Wars Rebellion strat/tactical game. They would if expanded upon, *completely rout the rebels* were the Imperial Strike Cruiser and the Imperial version of the Nebulon B Frigate. The Imperial Nebulon B, in those games, is an escort carrier designed to attach to fleets, or frankly handle entire planets on its own, as its entirely designed to make life hell for enemy starfighters. It had a decent screen of medium turbolaser turrets(12), and another 12 laser cannon turrets, *AND* carried the gear to look after, launch, recover and maintain 24 starfighters. And it can carry a few medium freighters(so, multiple gozanti class) to boot. No wonder Thrawn liked to tool around in one of those, looks relatively innocuous, but punches *way* above its weight. Then you have the Strike Cruiser, which is functionally about quarter of the armaments and load of an ISD, *but a tenth of the cost*

It probably scans using something that's not in realspace, not RADAR- we're looking at fictional instruments that use hyperspace to detect the passage of ships. It's not exactly an affront to the viewer to use a recognizable design language to communicate something about the craft, especially when there's plenty of unspecified technology at work within that familiar structure. Maybe actively scanning hyperspace is indistinguishable from passively receiving signals, but regardless assuming the inspiration from real-world tech means it functions identically in the fictional context it's a stand-in for is a bit silly even as far as geeking out about fictional pieces of hardware goes.

The Gozanti cruiser could be the "russian trawler" of the Star Wars universe. Cover it with antennas and fill it up with tons of electronics and you could have a nice passive listening post. Good point actually. I wonder if AT-AT's could fire while strapped to that thing. And for the bombers, well.. 4 of em could in theory fit. They stick out to one side aye, but they dont both stick out to the middle ..BUT even so. When it comes to carrying walkers into combat I personally prefer the shuttle used in the (by now) old fanmade series "I.M.P.S: The Relentless" that thing's pretty damn amazing. Not just 4 AT-AT's, but also 4 AT-ST's to scout for their respective walkers. 6 pilots, and supposedly a medical bay on board as well for any injured troops that make it back to the lander

I have a friend who was in Iraq during and just after Desert Storm. He wasn't in combat (that came later) but spent his tour driving Generals around in Humvees. He came back on leave and we had a lovely discussion about how much he hated the Humvee. He said they were okay, if underpowered and fragile, out in the open desert. However they were useless in the towns because they were all too big for the narrow little streets designed for camels and carts. Do you know what's _not_ too big for the narrow little streets? A Toyota Hilux. He talked about begging his commander to get him a few Jeep Cherokees that would fit in the little streets, where cheaper than a Humvee, easier to work on, had better fuel economy, and were arguably tougher. No dice. So he got out, went ROTC, liked it, and is now a Colonel somewhere with his own driver.

The Gozanti, the C-130 of Star Wars. The "short bed" model probably has better accelleration. Strip the guns off and pack passengers in like freight, and it's a short range people mover- the the 3.10 to Corellia, as it were. Add more guns, she's a potent but slow local space patrol craft ("bulk cruiser"?). Think about how big two AT-ATs are, then you realize one can sling load a small, prefabbed fortress, with two or three modules forming a center keep, with prefab walls all around, with the garrison carried inside. The issue I have with these ships being used extensively by the Empire in Disney-cannon is that they break the Tarkington Doctrine. These ships make too much sense for the Empire to use. The Empire was supposed to be spending all its resources on big, flashy, inefficient systems in order to project the illusion of overwhelming power (Star Destroyers, AT-ATs, Death Stars, etc). Using smaller, more effective vessels makes real-world sense, but it doesn’t align with how the Empire does things.
@josesanchezrodriguez1783
@josesanchezrodriguez1783 9 ай бұрын
That has never really been the case, back in Legends they employed several frigates and corvettes to supplement their Star Destroyers and this was established in the same source book that introduced the Tarkin Doctrine. In reality the doctrine didn't call for ditching escorts and other classes in favor of larger ships, it called for pressing the advantage that ships like ISDs had of not only being pretty combat effective but also pretty damn scary to go up against while still maintaining fleets of smaller ships, this is why the Strike-Class cruiser was called "the best-kept secret of the navy" as it was a ship many times smaller than a Star Destroyer but it was so damn good that whoever happened to go up against it would be surprised by it's firepower because it was not as big as other ships, people would tend to underestimate it.

Tarkin Doctrine could never have been so totalizing, even Tarkin doctrine acknowleged the need for a localy present 'tripwire' force which would call down the hammer uppon any who resisted so that the fear is rational and omni-present. The Empire spent 'too much' on big weapons but not everything, the fact they have a fleet AND the DeathStar shows that. It is completly reasonable, infact unavoidable that some kind of smaller ship exists in their arsenal, particularly a small logistical ship. @quox3987

Now that you say that, that works weirdly well. I mean the big issue with the interdictions were they were always painfully obvious, expensive, and energy intensive to the point it was hard to power offensive or defensive systems alongside the gravity well. Making a cheaper version that could be easier to hide or cover behind larger ships and wouldn’t cost you 15 million credits for every loss wouldn’t be too bad an idea. Conversely it may not be possible to fit enough generators to power a gravity well generator, or even the gravity well generator itself, but to that I say: just use more. For the price of an Interdictor-class you could have 75 Gozantis and even if they become 3 times more expensive when adding interdictor systems you could still have up to 25 Gozantis. Have them network, or dock if they carry different components like modern Air Defense systems do, and now you don’t just have more interdictors but now you have a flexible system that can handle losing parts and not have a single point in your fleet that can be disabled by “heroic sacrifice” ramming attacks and can be better shielded by SDs, fighters, corvettes, etc. Even if you do lose some in this way, there’s plenty of other Gozantis to be converted into interdictors so replacements are plentiful and unless you lost over half your Gozantis your ability to interdict is at least partially functional.

Shure you would have to strip out some of the cargo space but if its just for local system defense it isn't going far from base anyway. Could be a good and cheap way to discourage small-scale raids into a system and something that could buy time for bigger ships to arive if a more serious incursion arrives, in such a case its mix of durability and firepower could allow a group of such vessels to be quite the prickly porcupine to all but the most overwhelmingly well armed invader.

The thing I think the Gozanti would be best at is a small group of them forming a task force with larger ships, like the Arquitens light cruiser or full blown Star Destroyers. It can only carry 2-4 fighters, but the important part is the docking points backed up by a fairly large cargo capacity for a ship its size. They could serve as a forward fueling and arming point for a larger fighter force carried on the bigger ships.

Externally mounted fighters don't look like they can be re-armed with munitions like bombs or missiles, maybe fuel/liquids etc can be piped in but that's it. Their is clearly no routine maintence ability and I'd say that the TIE probably could not make more then a few hours of flight time before it would need to be moved to a larger ship to get a proper maintence cycle. In this they fighter carrying Gozanti would be a bit like the Aircraft transporter ships of WW2, they LOOK like carriers, but have basically none of the logistical functions that actually keep planes operational, just a landing spot and fuel. Most were used to just shuttle planes around as cargo.

The carry-on ability, and how much armor she packs for her size are the impressive bits, honestly. Her armaments have man portable variants, and are quite weak. You'd need to "aquire" or "relocate" a trigger, a stock, and a Tabana tank, but at the end of the day you'd have a Star Wars version of the WW2 Stinger .30 cal. It took a surgery, and full week in the diaper tank, but I've had a character survive a close encounter with the non-vehicle varient of her nose gun during the same landing zone fiasco our pilot was desperately popping old Johnny Reb with the vehicle version. By using pretty much all the internal cargo space for additional berths and consumables, you can support the additional pilots, techs, and a second stormtrooper squad. And a rather small munitions store for the bomber. Now the ship can do all sorts of the nickel-and-dime policing and patrolling typical of empires. They can patrol shipping lanes, escort merchant ships, carry out strikes on small dissident/resistance groups, conduct inspections of ships in space, and even board and seize offending vessels.

No offense but it seems you've ignored every metric that matters like: Shield Recharge Rate, Total Shield Capacity, Hull Armor, Weapon Armaments (Turbolasers, Laser Cannons, Quad Turbolasers, Proton Torpedos, Missiles), Reactor Output (Total Power Output). "Better Utility" It's a fragile and niche capital ship that exceeds in a support role. It works well for what it's *intended* to do. "Smaller Target" I agree here that the smaller profile is better. I'd like a ship on the Interdictor's chassis but replace the four reactors with one and essentially make it a more scaled down ISD. "Better Tactical Equipment" I agree with statement as well save for the fact that the equipment is necessary for survival due to the lack of heavy firepower. I love the Interdictor for the role it plays as it does so exceedingly well. As I said earlier, an ISD mounted on an Interdictor chassis would be optimal. I may actually attempt that feat in Lego! Cheers @@Gamerguy826

@@helghast1149 An ISD on an Interdictor chasis sounds like a nice compromise but my point is that the Empire's Star Destroyer's large Turbolaser armament was effectivley useless given the Rebellion's emphasis on strike craft. It simply had too many which was counterproductive. The Interdictor, on the other hand had missile jamming systems which made it a nightmare for things like Y-Wings which were extensively used by the Rebels. Oh, and let's not forget that Gravity Well generator that could completely shut down hit and run attacks which were the Rebels bread and butter. Completely wasted potential, in my opinion.
@helghast1149
@helghast1149 7 ай бұрын
I would counter that the ISD's large turbolaser complement wasn't useless as the Star Destroyer was always intended for Capital ship v Capital ship warfare. It was never intended to fight swarms of fighters as if we're being practical no rebellion could have afforded to consistently sustain the naval/aerial losses incurred by the Rebels. Let's also take care to note that ISD-1's had Point-Defence weaponry that meant they actually could counter and thrive against small strike craft that the Rebellion employed. The ISD-2 was the Star Destroyer that removed Point-Defence weaponry but it was also intended to be a purely up-armored and upgunned Star Destroyer. It was meant to double down on it's original intended role of anti-capital ship. Typically, even in a small battle group you could assume that an ISD would have support from either an Arquitens or two; or even Raider-Class Corvettes. Either one of those spacecraft would be great in an Anti-Fighter role that could allow an ISD-2 to focus on the enemies capital ship. I think Star Wars has had a bad trend recently within the past decade of "lazy space battles" that play too much on plot armor rather than adhering to any sense of technological continuity. @@Gamerguy826

I’ve always had an idea for my own Star Wars OC where my character is a rich spoiled kid from Coruscant turned smuggler and scoundrel and along with having an N-1 Naboo starfighter he also has a highly modified Gozanti cruiser. I think it would be great for a group of six to own and operate. I say highly modified because this guy would modify it to have an internal hangar that can house his N-1 along with some cargo and maybe an extra small ship, then he’d add on two extra engines, and then he’d get the most lucrative upgrade; a class 0.6 hyperdrive salvaged from an Acclamator. All the while streamlining the ship to be able to run with a smaller crew as stock these things require a crew of 12 to fully operate but he’s using half of that and even that’s towards the very end. Oh and of course add on highly illegal heavy weapons that can actually hold off the Imps.

It had a lot of dishes as well to give it a modern navy ship in space kinda feel. One thing to note, the TIE’s can’t actually open their cockpits while latched to a Gonzanti. Pilots would have to board their fighters from either another ship or base and rendezvous with the transport. Also you forgot to mention that the Gonzanti can also hover several meters above the ground and release a lift that can touch the ground to unload cargo or rapidly deploy troops. I never cared much for the original explanation of how the Empire deployed Veer’s AT-ATs at Hoth. The Mammoth drop pods are cool I guess but the versatility and mobility of a Gonzanti make rapid deployment a whole lot more functional.
