Ben and Ashley personify an old adage. "Some people go through life with their eyes closed. Some people go through life with their eyes partially opened. Some people go through life, occasionally opening their eyes fully. Then there are the very few people who go through life with their eyes fully open all the time, taking in the wonders of the world and appreciating everything that they're seeing." Ben and Ashley remind me of my parents, when we were sailing in the South Pacific, near Indonesia (far too long ago to want to admit). They told me, "Do what you want to do, but be certain that it is truly what you desire to be doing, and don't hurt anyone, especially yourself." This advice can never be forgotten, and Sailing Nahoa proves this every day, as they are teaching this philosophy by example, and not only with words. Thank you for sharing your incredible life and world view.

In 1989 we crossed the Atlantic from Cape Verde to Barbados, a 20-day passage. It had felt like a big responsibility, taking Tropic Moon across the ocean. But once I understood how tireless she was, going on for hour after hour, day after day, regardless of the conditions, it was like having a weight lifted from my shoulders. In fact, I realized we couldn't actually take her anywhere, but she could take us there. As I remarked to Ed, we could jump overboard and, with our twin headsails/autopilot/wind vane all set for the downwind passage, Tropic Moon would most likely arrive in the Caribbean all by herself. Half way through that passage, I stood on deck, turning in a circle. We were more than 1000 miles in distance from any land. It was quite a feeling. Part of why people sail is for these kind of experiences.

Your family is one of the few sailing/traveling KZfaqrs I enjoy watching because of the love and respect you show everyone and everywhere you go. With regard to the point someone made about you being "safe in harbor so why climb the mountainside" as well, and to that I say "What is the point of sailing/traveling to new locations if you aren't going to explore them?" Also, children (and adults) are going to get sick and they will get bumps and bruises no matter where you're at... So the real question then is this, " Are you going to let fear control your life, or are you going to take that leap?"

Another awesome adventure. I can’t think of anything more fulfilling than completing a passage then hiking to the highest part of the land you just set anchor in. Also giving your kids that opportunity is absolutely amazing. You’re creating unforgettable memories exploring our beautiful earth. Keep on sailing on and showing everyone, including your children the world. Life shouldn’t be boring!

Why do sailing around the world? Because no beautiful family can show the beautiful seas, oceans, countries, and islands like your channel can. Your adventure is appreciated by millions of people who can't sail. So we are very thankful to have experienced it all without going through all the hardships and just enjoying the adventure with your family. So again, thank you for doing it for all of us. Just please always stay safe and don't take too much risk. Praying always for God's protection for your family. God bless you and have a joyful and safe voyage. 🎉❤🥰🙏🙏🙏

Ben. Another way to help with chafe is to wrap whatever the sail or line is rubbing against with UHMW tape. Its very low cx of friction lets the sail/line slide across. Sure to find it in Brazil😊 Fair winds and following seas.

I am completely fascinated by your experiences with your family going around the world. You are a very brave, resilient, and resourceful family with such a tremendous story to tell. I have learned much about life watching your diary on your daily routine. It takes a steadfast dedication and fortitude to stay focused enough not to allow your emotions to win over in tense situations,-what needs to be dealt with. You must secure the safety for your family first and foremost. It’s easy to give in to failures, but learning from our experiences and always moving forward is the path of least resistance. Your attitude is exemplary! Good luck and God speed to your family. Be safe!

It never ceases to amaze me at the audacity some people have in the comments that they make to you! If you want to climb a mountain with your children on your backs, then so what? It’s your life, your children and your backs for that matter! You take the time and effort (which cannot be easy with the children) to make your videos and take us along with you on this awesome adventure of sailing around the world and instead of just being thankful that you are safe, some people question your right to take a hike!! I just don’t get it. Oh well, enough ranting. Thank you guys for sharing your lives with us. Hope Willa is better and you guys stay safe!

What you are doing is beautiful, sailing is a wonderful way to travel. In the early 70’s as a young teen I spent a summer sailing and loved every minute of it. Life had different plans for me which is ok. I’m wheelchair bound, so in a small way I get to live through your adventures. I think it’s amazing you have your little ones doing the trip with you, don’t ever let anyone try to tell you what to do it’s your guys life adventure. Safe travels to you all.

Why Would Anyone Sail Around the World? Someone's gotta do it. I can't... right now. That's why I like to watch and live the life in my mind through channels like yours. ... and everybody's perspective as they visit these remote Islands and various places is different. I've learned a lot more watching vids than I ever did at listening to boring history teachers and such. Some of which I have to be distinguish out of it from all the vids I watch. But it is my entertainment that you have brought to me as I sit at my computer and drink my coffee/water and eat my food. You help bring vision to us less fortunate to do so for ourselves. Maybe one day I'll experience it. Maybe not. Until then I'll continue to watch. Thank you for buying that boat and going through all of these vast changes in your lives. My wife and enjoy watching.

Don’t worry Ashley, those weird feelings are the “mom” in you worrying about every possible thing that could happen with your little ones. You know what they need and you prepare more carefully than most people in sticks and bricks. No one can wrap their kids in protections from life itself - and I hazard a guess that when they are a bit older you will see that the round the clock love and time you spend on them, is the most precious and valuable thing they will ever have. Wish I had had the nerve to find a way to give that to my children, but I allowed “life” to get in the way of living and that is a regret that you will never have. Blessings on you all.❤❤❤
