This was a 10 year gem. Buying the x52 soon and will definitely be trying this out as I’ve seen a lot of complaints with the tension on the spring. Thanks man!

It just begs the simple questions, why not have a spring tensioner in the first place? Or a proper calibrated spring from the start? Both my modest and reliable Thrustmaster's T-Flite Hotas X and Stick X were perfect out of the box, and have a simple adjustment knob on the bottom, as you must know. It is beyond my comprehension that modifications have to be performed on a given product, when other devices are close to ideal the instant they are plugged in. Interesting review indeed...

use metal washers or buy a new stronger spring (the pro has 2 springs so thats twice the market to look through, however i recommend only change the stronger outer spring)... this 'plastic' modification will just bend over time MUCH MUCH quicker then the spring will wear out and you'll nd up just reading this quite often to keep it stiff. edit: ABOUT THE LIMITED MOTION!!! adding them to the bottom (by pulling the spring up instead of down.) will return full motion, however increase wear on the already crappy plastic so again, strongly recommend using some for of metal that wont compress under these relatively light loads (could potentially bend some aluminum or copper washers on) or just buy a stronger spring (dunno about 52 stock but the pro si relatively easy to get to the spring as swapping these for a preferable strength/softness was an intended design.)

My X52pro just started having this issue. It has 2 springs, but they seem to have lost there tension. Can you replace the spring or re-tension it? Will try your fix, however one spring is smaller than the other, not sure if the washer will fix. How is the mod going now? Still working?

man, i bought a used x52 pro, and the problem is the other way around. He's too hard to move. Do you have any tips on what I can do?

It seems it doesn't work in my X52 anymore anyway, is it my imagination or does rotating black plastic circle on which spring rest on the bottom base adjust tension of the spring? Rotate one way it will become more tense, rotate other it will become more loose?

you could also stretch out the spring and then put it back, that should give you the same effect... I'm guessing...

Hey there.I would try to trim down the plastic so that it doesn't get stuck. Look for where it is sticking and see if you can cut it down. Other than that, I have no idea. Sorry.

Try heating up the plastic in hot water rather than with a torch to avoid scorching it. Also use a sharp pair of sciz to cut it rather than the exactly for a straight clean cut

Hello Drayu,I have a question maybe you could help me, I will try to explain my problem the best that I can (I'm not english native) I play Flight Simulator and I have this X52 and sometime in the game I need to move the plane very soft (for landings) and a lot of times the plastics circle gets stock with the other plastics that supports the joystick and I need to apply more force to unclogging and the resault is that the plaine moves horrible lol Do you have any Ideas what i can do ? Thx

I love the stiffness of t his mod, but it has an adverse side affect in that the increased tension creates a "stickiness" between silver baseplate and the black base of the controller. When making very small adjustments, the stick tends to rub too hard and causes jumpy movements. Not really sure of a way to resolve that, just seems like a poor design choice on Saiteks part. Great tutorial though.

I want mine looser, for helo flight. and for more realism in fixed wing flight. I personally dont like it centering itself

In a real aeroplane there is no self centering spring at all, it is the pitch and roll control, without any central feature.

Nice,. I'd done that with Cardboard for my old Cyborg, and didn't think it'd work like that for the x52, Apparently, it does, and now I can shim this dumb floppy Joysick (now to decide if I'm going to bother fixing the loose connection to the LED in t5 -_-)

Turning the plastic circle has NO effect on the tension of the stick. This is the easiest way to add tension to the stick....sorry.

Has anyone ever told you you sound a little bit like Christopher Walken?

Saitek joysticks look good but their critical design is just..designed to fail. This thought that making a joystick with a spring and metal flanged washer to center the joystick is stupid already since the metal rubs on a plastic centering ring that errodes it away with continued use. This means that these products get worse and worse over time much faster then they should. I'm conjuring a mod for the x52 pro that should solve this entire issue, it also applies to the x52 standard and x55 or any saitek stick that uses this flawed design.

This spring and the black base sliding up the shaft is horrible and it tends to rub plastic off of the shaft thereby making movements sticky. Having a cyborg evo wireless with the same setup I am not surprised that Saitek lessened the tension on the shaft in the 52. I will not buy another stick from Saitek as long as they insist on using the spring and base sliding up the stick shaft. It just causes way too much friction. Terrible design. Made to failware
