🌸 🏫 These Shuffle Units were: 1. Sleepiece: Moa, Yui, Rinon 2. Scoopers: Nene, Hana, Raura 3. BABYMETAL: Airi, Marina, Ayaka 4. Mini-Pati: Ayami, Hinata, Suzuka Each of the sub-units had a different group of songwriters (with a little bit of overlap). Some of the most notable ones are Professor Sakamoto and Takahiro "Tak" Matsumoto, a Grammy Award-winning Japanese guitarist, producer, arranger, composer, singer and songwriter. He may be best known as the lead guitarist of B'z. Matsumoto was a guest artist on 'DA DA DANCE', one of the tracks on the third BABYMETAL album, 'Metal Galaxy'. They both wrote songs for Mini-Pati. Sleepiece numbers are from Kid's TV Show theme songs. They're not sub-unit songs, but Tomoko Kawase and Shunsaku Okuda from the Brilliant Green wrote both 'My Graduation Toss' and 'Heart no Hoshi'. Entry to Sakura Gakuin is via audition. Amuse has a few different regional centers in Japan where they have singing and dancing lessons available. Current members Kokona, Sana and Neo all took lessons from Amuse at their Kyushu location. They also sponser the Actors School Hiroshima (ASH), which incudes Suzuka Nakamoto, Mariri Sugimoto and Miko Todaka as graduates. All became Sakura Gakuin members. The biggest source of future members are via Ciao Girl auditions. There have been about a dozen girls who came from that route, including Moa, Marina, Nene, Hana, Yunano, Mirena, Saki Ooga, Sara, Megumi, Yuzumi and Miku. And of course, Sakura Gakuin started off with all three original Mini-Pati members, and 2/3 of the Karen Girl's.

Sakura Gakuin has become something of an elite school for Amuses young talents. Basically, all of the girls was signed by Amuse before they entered SG. As an aspiring talent you may push for entry, parents may lobby management, but ultimately they are assigned to the group by Amuse.

What could have been, eh? Marina on BM lead vocals, Su and Ayami in Mini-Pati., Yui and Moa in Sleepiece. I think they picked the right people for the right bands though. BM needed Su, Yui and Moa. I love Mini-Pati, so Princess ☆ A La Mode always makes me happy, but I also LOVE that Sleepiece song. It's a cover from a kids TV show in the 90s, which leads to one of your questions; most songs are written for them, much like BM's, by top songwriters, at least one was written by the girls and some are covers. For me Moa was one of the girls who did the most "growing up" in Sakura Gakuin but basically stayed the same, character wise, from her 1st year to her presidency in her 5th year. Love how they switched Moa & Yui, the smallest ones at the time, with the 2 tallest who were ever in SG in Ayaka & Airi (which are probably the most famous SG alumns when it comes to Japan) in the BM shuffle. They did a Babymetal shuffle in 2017 to Gimme Chocolate with Kano, Maaya and Marin. Unfortunately there's no video of it, other than when they reviewed the whole concert on their weekly web series FRESH (I think you can google it, but there's not really that much to see). It's funny that 2 years later Kano really did start to perform with Babymetal. At the time when she was asked who she played she answered with "Moa-sama" (-sama is the "highest ranked" honorific for common people in Japan) xD Not to forget, Maaya did a perfect job with Su's part, I hope she'll have a succesful singing career in the future, she's really talented and absolutely loveable.

I'm so glad that you are doing this - these girls are all amazing performers :) When Yui left BM, my immediate thought was, that they should get Marina to replace her! They have the avengers, and she is starting to do her own stuff now (which is really decent by the way), but I don't think it would have been outrageous to see her take on Yui's role: She might not have Yui's cuteness factor, but she was a really good dancer, has a good voice and is highly energetic! :) Mini-Pati is my go-to, when I need uplifting, as it is impossible not to smile when seeing or hearing them :D Best wishes

To be part of SG you don't have to be super cute or super beautiful. You just have to be very talented (and of a certain age). An then they refine your talents to a professional level or even beyond! And yes, Suzuka, Yui, and Moa were exceptional even amongst these girls. And furthermore, Amuse supports all the girl that graduate from SG which want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

The first class is still the best, but the later years have many super talented and adorable young girls singing catchy songs to fall in love with. You made a very good point about watching the girls grow up. That is part of the charm of Sakura Gakuin, seeing these young girls grow and mature as they develop the talents they will use in their adult lives.

The girls enter Sakura Gakuin hand-picked among the talents under contract with Amuse. Although it could seem it's just a theme for the idol group it actually serves Amuse as a school to train and develop the abilities of their young assets, not just singing and dancing but also acting and getting stage and TV presence. In fact many of them can hardly sing or dance when they join SG but they have other talents, and they improve the ones they have and learn the ones they don't to graduate with a full set of showbiz tools in their belts. Then they pursue the career they want. Some will stay in the music business like Ayami or Babymetal. Some will head to acting like Ayaka, Airi or Raura. Some will just retire like Nene or Rinon...

Tiny Yui is the cutest

SG have used a number of different songwriters. How closely connected they are with Sakura Gakuin, I don't know- they could be freelancers. There are a few notable songwriting credits, such as Mezase Superlady (which you should react to by the way), which they play at the start of big shows to introduce themselves. Each member gets her own verse that plays on some aspect of her character, the lyrics of which are written by Mori-sensei who updates the verses every year as members graduate and transfer in. All of Sleepiece's songs are Japanese nursery rhymes that have been reworked. Tabidachi no hi Ni and Aogeba Toutoshi are both songs that you might hear at a graduation ceremony at a Japanese school and have both been reworked into Sakura Gakuin songs. Tabidachi no hi Ni is played towards the end of every SG graduation concert and is usually the point at which the members start breaking down in tears.

The Sleepiece songs are covers from 80's hits in Japan. This here is "Medaka no Kyoudai" and was originally written by Prof. Sakamoto back then. And he has written almost all of the Mini Pati songs as well. Of course our Sakura girls put way more energy into these, so they're making 80's songs even better. Besides that they have many writers and composers for this job. And the girls also take part in this sometimes. Especially when it comes to the song for the graduates every year. How the girls join SG? All of them were in the Showbiz before (most of them in Ciao Smiles, which also belongs to Amuse) or a fan of SG (Saki Shirai). So, none of the girls is completely unfarmilar with Sakura Gakuin. To join, they have to do an audition, which is dancing the choreography of a song. I don't know if there is more. I think Karen Girl's (Su, Ayami, Yuika) were asked (Yuika chose a diffrent group). And I guess Mini Pati 1st Gen. (Marina, Raura, Nene) were also asked, or just being pulled in with their Producer Koba (yes, THE Koba). Maybe someone else can explain in more detail.

I'm so happy to see SG getting recognition for the talent they produce. Nene Sugisaki was the one who went to school to become a nurse like her mother. I'm not sure if she is still following that path or not. She now has a steady boyfriend so who knows. I miss seeing new stuff from these young ladies but then again I understand. Sakura Gakuin holds audition every year for new members. To pass the audition you don't need to be very good at dancing or singing. All you need to have is the unique personality, some special skills, and in the age range they need. And yeah, cute tiny girls preferred.
