Do you know if all of the new Q models have eARC? Or just the Q90R, they do not specify it in any of the specs. Any chance you will do a Q80R review or comparison? Would be a great video, and really enjoying these reviews

Updated review Of The Q90R and some tips So I have noticed some changes and I have also done some tweaks to make those changes more prominent and update a little of the information surrounding this bar. After a recent Firmware update a few things have changed 1. Up scaling is much better and properly works with stereo encoded content not forcing you to use Virtual On all the time. Atmos I found to be iffy but it could be largely based on the content playing 2. Loudness has increased significantly as well and going past level 16 in my appt risks noise complaints. 3. Bass has improved but that doesn't mean you should expect much. On the Note of Bass this woofers design seems to work better when its closer to a wall which isn't technically proper bass distribution but its something if you currently hate it. 4. Musics overall clarity has gotten even better and the Bass is slightly improved as i mentioned above so bonus 5. I no Longer hear the sounds cutting in and out although it seems to have issues with the X Box One X blue ray app so be aware you could get feedback 6. Due to even more clarity rain sounds slightly more natural and closer in sound signature to the Nakamichi but due to the sound being vaulted up by the Phantom drivers it still feels slightly forced. 7. Some sound that I couldnt hear before is now legible. When I put on the Rain Atmos Demo this time I also heard Wind blowing which i had never heard before now Unfortunately there are some downsides: 1. Although Bass is better it severly lacks mid range. A Explosion will now rumble the floor but a gunshot you will barely feel the impact for when fired in a video game 2. Since the update The Q90R is having slightly more handshake issues with devices plugged directly into it and even on the Samsung Tv. It likes to just move your sound to tv sound on start up sometimes and I cant see any reason to do that. THIS IS IMPORTANT: I talked about Levels and proely setting them well I have something for you that should in theory tremulously help your set up This is not guaranteed mind you but its worth a shot. Set the following levels: Center: +3 Front Right and Left Level: 0 Top Front: +3 Rear level: -3 Rear Top Level +3 Subwoofer: -12 Bass: Personal preference but i keep mine the same level as Sub Treble: Personal preference but try to keep it even. hope this helps for those struggling to calibrate this darn thing. Merry Christmas everyone! Cheers.

@nosystemisperfect9954
@nosystemisperfect9954 4 жыл бұрын
@@DesolatePsyche mostly the same. There is one thing that may change the settings I posted. As I said in a more recent post this system completely relies on sound reflection and unlike the Nakamichi or Say the Sony Z9f it uses no special simulation effects to enhance the experience. So on the Q90R the closer the wall or ceiling is the more you have to back off the settings on the front right left and the top front and back. The further away the more you have to increase. In terms of being immersive it does really well in a room with a flat ceiling and completely enclosed. Especially if the room is big enough to make use of the rear speakers. In a small room the system is overpowering Imo but you will definately be satisfied of course assuming your room suits the acoustics. If I can give one piece of helpful advice when turning a Atmos Soundbar use the helicopter demo. And make it so as the Helicopter circles around you the distance of the helicopter is the same. This way you will get the levels you need to be exact. If you have any other questions about settings I'm happy to help. Currently I'm using th Nakamichi because the Q90r wasn't working for me but I'm planning on testing it some more with the new knowledge I've obtained to see if I can make it sound equal to or better then the Nakamichi. One thing I know it won't match though is Bass. Cheers.

Hi Martin, have you found any issue for the missing auto calibration toll on this product? I am interested to buy this soundbar but I have some concern about this missing feature for audio calibration
@nosystemisperfect9954
@nosystemisperfect9954 4 жыл бұрын
@@ringogio auto calibration is simply just to make your life easier and at the end of the day does not affect the longevity of the product unless you yourself mess it up. I have some new tips that may or may not help. Get your hands on a Dolby Atmos Demo disk if you can and use the helicopter demo to set the levels properly given the speaker set up in your room. The key detail is to make the helicopter sound the same distance away from you regardless of where it is in the room and what speaker it hits. Seriously do this. It will be important to your overall sound signature. I also recommend you put the woofer slightly in front of the your couch or seating area and to the left so the right side driver fires across the room. Not everyone is going to have the space to set up the Q90r properly and according to Samsungs specifications. The key point is to make sure your speakers are not hitting the back of a couch and having the up firing speakers hit your position properly. What I mean by this is the phantom drivers need to be set up so that sound is fired about your head and travels downward after it bounces off the ceiling. You also need a good flat and not too high ceiling to accomodate that factor. Honestly the only thing that can effect the longevity of the bar is the weight and the space the damn thing hogs in front of the tv. The bar literally takes up a good portion of of the front my cabinet and when I used it I was forced to push back the tv to accomodate space. The bar itself is 25 something odd pounds and it's really thick and it takes up half the space in front my 75 inch TV in length(yes it's that long) . The reason I'm warning you about this is Unofortunately later when moving things around I forgot to remove the hdmi plug ins from the bar and the things thickness and weight was it's undoing and it crashed to the floor. Thankfully I had a good warranty and it's since been replaced despite my mess up but all it takes is for the bar to be hanging too closeby to an edge and a slight shove and gravity to destroy your system. If you have kids it may be something to consider for longevity purposes. Other then that with the right space and set up you will be able to enjoy the bar to the fullest. Just be ready for a bit of a set up hassle in the beginning. If you still wish to have Auto Calibration though and you own say a recent Ipad or IPhone you should look into the Upcoming Sonos Arc System if you don't mind shelling out more money that is. Using True Play technology you could essentially have a Dolby Atmos system calibrated to your room. There are many other options upcoming such as the JBL 9.1 as well. Like anything consider your options and how important convienence is for you. Cheers.

This has been updated due to something I missed which is important. The Q90R is a good bar with some caveats. I ended up returning it but i know enough about it. The Q90R clearly took a page from the Bose handbook. The clarity in sound and also the way the sound feels 3d is very similar to the Pyscho Accoustics on the Bose 700 but with even more channels. If you have a 2019 Samsung QLED the integration of this bar into your set up will be a snap. Also although its not mentioned ANYWHERE the bar will pass through Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ for those wondering. This Bar also has EARC which makes it very future proofed. They Do not explain the different sound modes so here we go Standard; Stereo Sound and it literally only uses 2 channels on the bar (i never used this mode despite the Bluetooth recommendation by Samsung) Game pro: Self explanatory but it puts emphasis on sound effects and background noise. Footsteps, Trees, wind, a bird chirping etc. Adaptive: Puts emphasis on all sound but mostly i call this mode Dialogue enhanced because it works best for news programs or a similar nature. Surround: this is your up scaling mode essentially when this is on it uses all 7.1.2 channels at once and its also the mode you will use the most Virtual on/off: This is another up scaling mode because Surround doesn't always do its job properly. If you watch something stereo encoded on Netflix this will upscale it to surround but it will sometimes sound unnatural because it is forcing it. With that out of the way lets begin: For Movies: With surround mode on The bar comes SO close to immersion using the phantom up firing drivers and a 3d sound stage which is very lifelike. However i find it to be a mixed bag. The Sound has major clarity and it almost surrounds you WHEN it works that is. When up scaling content it does not always feel like a surround set up even when forced. It is highly depending on where your speakers are placed ESPECIALLY for Atmos and on the subject of Atmos volume level 30 was the minimum or above i needed to even notice it and if you live in a quiet home this system aint for you. The bass also suffers in movies on this system. Bass was just bad. Jurassic park absolutely pushed this system hard and it couldn't keep up or encode it properly. The Thumps were barely felt in the opening scene but the operatic part of the opening echoed off the walls. for games: using Game Pro Mode One Word "Immersion". every bird, leave rustle background noise or gunshots sing with clarity however explosions are not great because of the lackluster sub woofer. It really needs to be experienced though. The best way to describe it is riding a horse in the game i could hear the hoofs hit the ground and the birds sing with clarity and the characters talk. During a fight sword sounds or gunshot sang so clear using the up firing and regular drivers in such a way that is almost felt like you were there and boy was it LOUD. Your neighbors might hate you.Again Volume level around 26 or above to notice i so if you live in a quiet home maybe not for you. For explosions however when I played Gears 5 the sub barely had any punch despite the almost complete immersion i felt otherwise from Samsungs 3d space. for Music: using Surround Mode As you might expect Hardon kardon has tuned this bar extremely well. Vocals and Instrumentals sing with a scary clarity. However even music suffers with bass. Hip Hop especially pushes this bar hard with the low beats. Similar to the Bose yet again pop, instrumental, country, and anything that does not require allot of bass just rocks. Rock, hip hop, metal and some techno or dance will suffer on this bar. This is not the fault of Harmon Kardon as their tuning does make a difference and is superb but of the bass reflex design Samsung went with. In comparison to other premium soundbars the clarity of this bar is better then allot of them. Again similar to Bose and even outpacing the Nakamchi Soundwafe 9.2.4 in overall clarity of sound. you get what you pay for. Some things to note: This bar is EXPENSIVE and arguable whether its worth your hard earned cash. Speaker Placement can make or break your entire set up. Example: Rears need to be at minimum three ft behind you and angled at your ears and so the Phantom up firing drivers fire sound directly above your head. this is tricky to pull off and impossible if you do not have the space. It should be noted this soundbar is not for a small room period. Speaker levels need to be so LOUD you'd better hope you dont live in a apartment or a compressed room or quiet home. UPDATED: Each individual level MUST be set at the same otherwise your sound signature will sound off and terrible. If your Center level is four then set the rest to 4. This can solve one issue you will likely run into as Samsung does not give out proper tuning instructions. Tuning this soundbar to your room is very challenging, You have to adjust the Centre, Front left, front right, Front Top, rear, Top rear to suit the acoustics of your room and then you have to adjust the bass (which is not part of the sub) and the treble. This because despite its hefty price tag Samsung does not have room correction. This can be very tricky if you do not know what are doing. For me who was not used to this i fine tuned over and over till i got the sound my ears liked. The Size of the bar is MASSIVE. For some perspective I own a 75 inch Samsung TV. This brute of a bar took up half the length of the width of my tv. Also due to its size it can cover up a bottom portion of your tv if your tv sits lower. Atmos and DTS X depend entirely on your tv or devices to run. You can't just plug the bar in (on some tvs) and have it output Atmos because it only detects what your tv is decoding. So for some devices you may need to jack directly into the bar to get that Atmos signal directly decoded. Just like the Bose if you dont have ARC then dont bother with this bar as you wont get the most out of it. The Sub on this system is not a quality sub. It is better then the N950 sub but that isn't saying too much. Its loud for the sake of being loud but its not punchy or deep. It also HAS to be placed to the right of your set up due to the side firing sub design. And yes it wont work ANYWHERE else properly with the sound signature...i did try. Also fair warning but the Sub is only a 8inch driver and if pushed too hard it might just blow out so be very careful when setting your level I almost forgot to mention as well that occasionally and primarily while streaming content sound can just up and and cut right out. Although the latest firmware has mitigated this problem it is not entirely gone. Buyer Beware. in conclusion: The Samsung Q90R is a premium bar which has a very convincing 3d like sound stage and immersion albeit with a few caveats. If you have deep enough pockets and like the sound and supreme clarity Samsung has to offer despite the lackluster bass and you have the room size to properly accommodate the Phantom up firing drivers then honestly you can't go wrong with the Q90R and its overall design and future proofed features. Just do your research first before making the Jump as Samsung's successor may blow this out of the water and currently I feel for your money there are still much better options. Sorry Gearly another long one lol.

@Martin Middleton Thank you very much for your deeply and objectively explanation. At the moment, I'm in the decisioning between the HW-Q90R and the Bose 700. I already possess the Samsung Q90R 65" QLED TV since a few days and actually I thought the HW-Q90R soundbar would be the right one for me. I want a soundbar giving me cinema feeling when watching movies. But what does it help if you have to adjust so many setting to get this feeling. And if you doing wrong, you maybe never will have this feeling. I know that the Bose 700 is "imitating" surround feeling by its technology if I'm not wrong. But I guess, that's why you can't do so many things wrong. My living room is almost 25 square meter, I have the option of placing the surround speakers (HW-Q90R) behind my couch angled to my ears. But now, I'm just asking myself if the BOSE is not the easier to handle, but nevertheless a "surround"-imitating, soundbar on eye level. Maybe @Gearly Reviews you have a recommendation for me? Thank guys and keep going on!

@@Mogelbaum591 Cinema Feeling and Atmos are too completely Different things when it comes to sound bars. First the Q90R: Atmos does require a ceiling that is not too high when it comes to bouncing sound. Approximately 8 ft high was recommended to me when I first bought the bar. Regardless of room size height needs to be taken into account with the phantom drivers on the Q90R. For Immersion: The Bar uses the height channels and all 7.1.1 channels to immerse you and when it works the sound is amazing. The primary difference between this and Bose is height as that adds an extra dimension ontop of whatever your hearing already. Beware the terrible bass and slight caveats as you have read already. When it comes to integration you have absolutely "almost" nothing to worry about. The Samsung Tv you have will sync up with the q90r bar perfectly. The different sound modes used should in theory automatically detect what you throw at it so long as they are connected directly into the tv I Say almost however because as far as I am aware your tv does not directly decode Atmos. It down scales Atmos through a digital plus signal UNLESS you connect directly to the bar. Keep in Mind the Bar only has 2 HDMI Inputs to decode directly. If Atmos is not a concern with the q90 r then most (but not all) signals plugged directly should translate very well as this bar is meant to compliment layout tv and make set up extremely easy to set up minus tinkering with room correction not being there.. Bose 700: Bose does not have Atmos so if that's important to you for immersion then skip Bose. For Immersion: You will lose the height channels 3d immersion and instead the immersion will come from the left and right behind you and somewhat the front using psycho acoustics. Its so well done though that it gives Q90r a run for its money especially with the bass. Bose Calibration can be done using adpatiq. This is done using a microphone headset you will need to plug into the back of the Bose bar. Bose will then ask you to sit in 5 different locations while it will play sound through the respecting speakers for a few seconds. Although this does take some time it is much more simplistic the individually setting up all the different channel levels. Bose software can be hit or miss and sometimes their firmware updates can actually cause more problems while fixing others. Sometimes it can be easy to set and other times it might not be. Usually set is easier but sometimes ive hard from others it can be a real headache if your not tech savy. My recommendation: if you prefer simple and are tech savy and don't care about Atmos Immersion then go for Bose if you have the money. If you prefer Atmos immersion and don't mind all the tinkering the go with the Q90r. At the end of the day its all about what sounds the most pleasing to your ears. What you can do is buy one and try it out and if your not satisfied then return it and get the other one.

It's been a month now that I own this sound bar that I decided to buy after seeing your test and comparison videos, and I still have a lot of fun every time I turn it on. Every time I look at a dolby atmos or DTS X blu ray, it's always a wonder and amazement of the sound quality it delivers. It may be a little expensive, but you quickly forget the money spent when you realize the quality of the product. With my little projector, I have absolutely no desire to go to the cinema, I can see better at home now! Thank you for your videos which were very useful to me!

If you are considering this Soundbar room layout is VERY important. I just learned why this system does not work for me but it works for my best friend. The key to making the Q90R the best sounding it can be is largely your room and allow me to explain. This entire system is reliant on sound reflections and exact placing. So lets say you play the bar in a open concept living room like mine..its sounds only OKAY but why?. Its because of how Samsung wants the sound to move. The right and left side drivers on the bar are angled outwards to hit a nearby wall and bounce off it and head towards the listener. So what happens when the wall isnt close or there isnt a wall?, the sound takes longer to hit the nearby wall and bounces backwards. Now in theory you may be able to increase the level of sound being projected as you do with the height channels but it still wont be as powerful or as enveloping as a completely closed room with a flat ceiling and nearby walls to bounce sound. So the system works like this in a nutshell sound is fired at you from the front and the back. Sound is also fired upwards from the front and the back and with the proper placement of the rear speakers it would come right down on top of you and while this is happening the side firing drivers are reflecting off the walls. Essentially you have sound being reflected all over your room. The more open it is the less the result, the bigger and closed off it is the bigger the result, the smaller and closed off it is the over powering result. You must have the space and or the proper room acoustics to really hear this system sing and WOW you. If you want the above to be explained check out If you decide to buy this system be aware that you MUST have a room that can properly reflect sound. Open concept or open walls will muddle the sound. Cheers.

@@arikononen4022 Thanks, I just return the LG SL10YG which didn't sound great in this room, especially compared to the 5.1 Vizio I was replacing (these are the old model that doesn't pass-thru 4K) plus I had issues with the sub cutting out, picture cutting out, and this was even on an LG OLED C8 which should have been seamless. I will keep the Vizio in play and wait for a sale on the N950 or Q90R. Thanks :)

N950 is very good soundbar but With ~ 1.5k USD budget you should definately go with separate home theater set. Go for some cheap(ish) jbl speakers, monolith 10" thx ported sub and cheap receiver. You are going to be way more satisfied with the sound. Soundbar subs are loud and boomy especially in smaller rooms and they dont have any real low end or accuracy. Other than that sound quality is quite good but cannot compare with proper 2 way stereo speakers.

Samsung HW-Q70R with Sony X80H Positives: Value for money, cheap. For the money you spent.. it is the best KZfaq comcast works Sound is good Surround from top should ideal work as Q70R has top speakers but I could not experience it. Possibly due to audio clip supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, plus pass-through 4K HDR video Subwoofer connects automatically by Wifi with soundbar Came with a free wall bracket for soundbar Came with free HDMI cable for ARC connection. Negatives : 1. When pairing Bluetooth of Samsung HW-Q70R/ZN with Sony X80H Tv model the Bluetooth did not work, problem could be on Sony tv side cause my android mobile is able to connect via bluetooth to the soundbar, Anyways since HDMI Arc connection worked with Sony X80H Tv the bluetooth connect with sony Tv is not such a big issue. 2. Samsung Wifi only works with Samsung Tvs does not work with Sony or LG tv 3. Subwoofer was ok not very good but just Ok 4. For some reason SWA9000 (160W rear speakers) wireless Rear speakers are compatible with HW-Q80R, HW-Q70T but could not find HW-Q70R in the list of compatible for SWA9000. It was only included in compatible list of SWA8500 (54W speakers). I think having a rear speaker does make good difference but the HW-Q90R is more then double the price so the Q70R was good value but the rear speaker option SWA8500, SWA9000 can enhance experience at a small extra cost AED. 250-400 (less then USD. 100) depending on model. Some one said SWA9000 works in Q60R so it would be a bummer if it did not work with Q70R. Someone needs to test and confirm this. 5. HW-Q70R does not have side speakers, HW-Q80R has side speakers, HW-Q90R has side speakers plus rear speakers. 6. Remote of Sony X80H Tv remote and Sound bar remote was not in sync. When you use the sony remote sound went to zero faster but sound bar was still showing 11, when I use soundbar remote it was easier to adjust lower volumes between 1-11 by one click at a time. So in other words the sync between sony tv remote and samsung soundbar is not like samsung tv remote vs samsung sound bar. Despite that this is not such a big issue as you can control via soundbar remote lower volume adjustments. If anyone has solution for Negatives reported please let me know.

I'm very torn between the N950 which is about 1100 on ebay brand new, or spend the extra for the eARC. My problem is I love that xbox games use dolby atmos however I have to keep my xbox one plugged into my soundbar so I then loose auto game mode, and free sync. Well I guess my concern Is more for the next gen xbox coming in 2020 the specks are so crazy I'll have to eventually upgrade my TV again to HDMI 2.1 to take full advantage and feel like by going with the n950 am I going to be in the same position wishing I hadn't compromised.
