How do the San Ti communicate? How did they create the VR game? How was Tatiana able to become invisible on the cameras? How does being a Wallfacer work when the sophons can see everything? Why would they waste their resources and come to earth rather than using those resources to fix their planet's own problems? Why did the San Ti tell humanity about their plan?

How could San Ti evolve and develop their technology and civilisations if their home planet has that problem.

Hey, Danny. Hope you're well. But that's the whole point of the story. They build up their technology and civilization only to have the stable periods in which they built that up interrupted by a chaotic period where it's all torn down. That's literally what the story is about. With respect, I'm confused as to why that's a plot hole to you.

Firstly, because they have a natural feature of being a resistant species. Their immunity lies in hibernation. After all, it is not known how old the breed is, maybe their slow development dates back to the beginnings of the formation of the glact... who knows. They can develop slowly or even take billions of years. 3BP is very deep. The San Ti are very specific aliens. Their range was limited by the amount of energy available. They were a class 2 civilization. The next star was too far away to reach the next level. It's as if I had nuclear fission technology but no uranium.

I don't think the Sophon is capable of affecting the plane. That would be too overpowered. What Wade experienced was just a normal turbulence in the clouds and the Sophon simply observed and predicted its occurrence and picked the right time to show itself. The show seems to suggest the Sophon can affect electric devices like displays, speakers, and hard drives, but it is reasonable to assume that different devices require different levels of efforts, which means some devices may be too difficult to mess with. Plus, given that their priority is to put a lock on humans' study on fundamental particles, the Sophons are too busy to do other stuff. And as long as humans' fundamental research is stopped, they simply don't need to do anything else. The general audience will know why when they meet the droplet.

I think the sophons' ability to interfere with electronics is also a Netflix creation. In the books the sophons are only known to spy on Earth, sabotage particle accelerators, and create visual delusions. It was explicitly stated in the books that sophons cannot affect on the macroscopic scale, and cannot kill.

I really liked that, in the book, the sophons were duplicated in the particle colliders so there are millions. Felt more believable than 2 sophons being everywhere at once.

Two possible ways, one, it changed the detectives vision not to see anything, similar to the floating numbers, and sky events. Second way is that it expanded to become the outside of the house, showing only what it wanted to show.

I've seen someone else talk about how D&D wouldn't have accepted to run this show if they weren't certain it would be seen through to the end. Same goes for the company that holds the rights for 3Body, they wouldn't license it if they had doubts it would go well. I think the show is safe. It hás the backing it needs to stay afloat, even in Netflix.

Netflix isn't as random as people say. They have exact metrics they use to make such decisions. It weighs the views and number of viewers against the cost of making the show. As viewers it's easy to forget that Netflix is first and foremost a business's and it's primary goal is to make money for it's investors. When a show you like is canceled, you naturally get upset but you have no idea how much money is spent on these shows and you much (or how little) time people spend watching it. Some shows have very loyal fan bases who make a lot of noise online, that does not mean that the show has huge number of actual viewers

The sophons would not be able to do all of that. They explain it in the show by trying to make a particle accelerator in the moon to make their trajectories take more time. As such, if they tried to make everyone go mad with the visions that it would take too much time.

Cool video thank you for that, one thing I’m maybe not understanding fully is you mentioned at the end there that they think of humans as bugs and so don’t care about sharing their plans as they think that we can’t do anything about it anyway but in the show didn’t they call the 400 voyage a funeral march as humanity will have progressed during the same time period, these two ideas seem to be arguing for opposite sides so I’m not such which point of view to believe
@coloboquito
@coloboquito 28 күн бұрын
They said it would be a funeral march if the humans could advance scientifically. That's why they stopped the colliders, because they believe that anything we could come up with without advancement in particle physics is too low tech to do anything against them

As Wade says to them in that same scene, they only revealed that because they already knew how to stop it from happening: they stopped our technology from developing by stunting our science and understanding of the Basic laws of physics. If our experiments with physics always return nonsense results, we'd never avance enough to become a thread.

The "what is lying" still seems like a big plot hole. Could be they have provided the VR tech while the humans made the game. BUT when they saw the game made by humans, then the cosplaying sexy samurai should have made them understand "lying". Their scrubbing also of the videos by to make the girl invisible is also "lying". The FAKE blinking of the night sky is also "lying". It's manufactured forced conflict.

I think the one thing that could have made it work better is showing they understand deception, but didn't fully understand humans are capable of face to face deception. That said, I still think it's a bit of a stretch to believe they hadn't figured it out until Evans read the story. It's a minor point that doesn't really ruin anything for me, but just an observation that I think is funny 🙈

Then I watched the far Superior Tencent version and they had an 80lb woman that had super powers , easily handling many men without even using her body weight or leverage and realized they are both modern day girl bosses.

At the point in the story when the wallfacer project was made public, they were already aware of the Sophons and what they could do, AND Wade already got the particle colliders to work 24/7 to keep one of the Sophons occupied. So, even if the San Ti tried their countdown or other tactics with the Wallfacers, the humans would already know it was the Sophons and, so long as they were in a protected environment they wouldn't be in any danger. The Sophons were shown to make people hallucinate, yes, but as of right now, they can't interfere with our biology, they can't outright kill us, they'd need a human to kill a Wallfacer. And, with one Sophon occupied with stunting our science, it would be a waste of resources to use the other to try and get the wallfacers instead of using it to spy kn the rest of us and wait until a Wallfacer to make a move. No point in trying to anticipate the Wallfacer's next move if they were instructed to hide their intentions and confuse the San Ti with their actions. Unless another human kills a Wallfacer, the San Ti are powerless to counter their moves, because they simply can't know what those moves are until they have already been made. So, the Sophons "letting" the wallfacers live isn't such a stretch after all, imho. (I kept this comment spoiler free on purpose. Avoid discussing what the San Ti actually end up doing to counter the Wallfacers.)

What makes that not a plot hole? Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand what you mean. I'm talking about how they are verging on super powered, even in the books. They could blind someone if they wanted to and kill them while driving, but don't. Why? Bc the story needs to go on lol. I'm not upset about it.

@@roadtotarvalonexactly, sophons are overpowered and hand-wavy even in the books and there's actually no reason they couldn't impact electronics or just give people cancer. It's even mentioned in the books when discussing the need for a swordholder: AI is not a possibility because sophons can possibly impact its reasoning. So the only possible explanation is that they don't care or for some reason can't do anything they didn't do in the books or in the show. So maybe they can impact screens, hack cars, etc. but for some reason can't kill people directly and crash planes
