Shiv Kunal Verma was born into an army family and after his initial schooling at St Joseph’s Academy and a year at Fort Benning in the United States, he was sent to the Doon School. Having then graduated from Madras Christian College in Tambaram, his initial years were spent working with Tiger Tops Mountain Travel in Ladakh and Nepal.
Subsequently a journalist, a film maker and a writer, he has worked briefly with India Today, the Associated Press and with Sanctuary Films before he teamed up with his associate Dipti Bhalla and formed KaleidoIndia, under which banner some classic films like Salt of the Earth and the Standard Bearers were shot and produced. In 1999 he filmed the Kargil War and in the last decade and a half, has authored some exceptional books that include the Northeast Trilogy, 1962: The War That Wasn’t and 1965: A Western Sunrise. He is now working on the seminal Value Education Program for schools that aims at bringing India to Indians especially at the school and college levels.

During 1984 Anti Sikhs riots, post murder of PM Indira Gandhi, I was living in Delhi in Yamuna Vihar colony and employed in Delhi Government. I personally saw those roits. I was successful in saving a Sikhs family of Labh Singh Khera, feel proud of even in my old age of 79 years.

😊 Mind-blowing.I can relate easily to it as I have a similar background and have lived through it and my father used to have these discussions at times and was so anti Congress.He gave refuge to a sikh joint family in Faridabad in 1984 , which was known to a doctor friend of ours.Some neighbours got the wind of it and the next day a group came and threatened my father, but he boldly stood his ground and told them that he had fought three wars against external enemies along with sikh brothers and would readily lay down his life to protect his guests. Better sense prevailed on the group and they didn't return.That family stayed safely for a fortnight till they could return to their house and eventually Punjab. They became the local guardian of my daughter when she went to GNDU at Amritsar in 2003 to pursue her B.Arch.course.

When Godse killed Gandhi, the mob had gathered in front of my great grandmother's house in Satara to torch and burn it down, a kind neighbour asked my great grandmother's family to hide themselves in his house inside groundnut gunny bags kept in the godown, the mob searched everywhere but couldn't find anyone, so they left, then my great grandmother along with her husband and six kids fled to Belgaum in the middle of the night, never to return again. This story was told to me by my grandmother.

Generally! It is emphasised that colonial character and ethics of British Raj and its masters is unreliable but same set of Britishers become reliable while destroying our own leaders of freedom struggle. Who was the responsible for partition of India or the butcher of killing lacks of people during partition of India. Perhaps the Ex PM of UK was washing his sins while enjoying Rosogolla in West Bengal Raj Bhawan. Marriage of convenience is perhaps suited to changed world and prevailing ecosystem.

I met PM Rajeev Gandhi twice, once at his residence and once at a Lunch in Tin Murti House. My experience is that he was a through gentleman and heard people sincerely.

Just goes to show how ignorant the country is of this very dark side of politics and power play that happen behind closed doors. Very shocking revelations indeed. I know about Gen VK's age case because my husband had also stood by him through thick and thin during the whole process. I sincerely hope all those involved in tarnishing the integrity of the Army, rot in hell. UPA is already on the way. Its absolutely disgusting.
