Sap-Sap, meaning "Delicious Delicious" in the Lao language, is both a pop-up dinner series and also tradition Lao inspired food products created by Alex Hanesakda. Alex, who was born in a refugee camp is now responsible for one of the hottest dinner tickets in town. Chef Luke Zahm travels to Racine to meet Alex and his family as they prepare for their annual Lao BBQ dinner.

Im tearful while I listened to your speech. My youngest brother was born in Thailand probably same year as you were. Our family came to Thailand(Ouboun) for asylum during communist invaded Laos. Currently my brother lives in San Diego,CA,he moved there after he graduated from college in TX. Now he is working as a chef for some hotel. Believe me or not my two sons are into BBQ business as well. Thanks for sharing Lao food with us n around the world.

I feel very fortunate to live in a city where there's a large Laotian population. The food is amazing, I have lao sausage, papaya salad and sticky rice at least 3 to 4 times a month. The salad they made in the video is definitely a dialed down version..for the white people, lol. They left out the fermented crab sauce and chilies... the strong smell is generally off putting to most people. I usually have a dozen or more chilies in my salad... like that guy said, "if it's not spicy, it's not good."

its true, if it ain't spicy then it ain't good! I grow up eating spicy food and honestly if it lack those spicy flavors I just couldn't eat it it just doesn't hit the spot.
