Hey, what type of equipment do you use for the port?
@erikthomsen40075 күн бұрын
I use a thin and pointy scalpel to loosen the dirt, and to pull out the larger chunks. Pressurized air blows out the loose stuff. A USB-C port can contain surprising amounts of compressed debris, so it is very possible that you'll have to do the procedure several times. You should be able to feel when the tool glides across the bottom of the connector, rather than across dirt. The rounded ends are the most difficult, because not many tools will fit there. Be careful not to break anything. I've prolonged to the life of two Samsung phones this way. After cleaning, the USB connectors went visibly further into the phone.

Why is the only solution that people can come up with to clean the port? That is an obvious no brainer. Tech said port is the cleanest he's ever seen, but couldn't repair due to voiding the Asus warranty. I want to see a video that shows bending whatever is bent back into shape.

Canned air sold online or at most electronic stores. It shoot out really powerfully. It's also good to use on your laptop's fan slot. You can also use it for between the keys.

I would never use metal in a port and a wooden toothpick is too fat. I use the flat plastic toothpick found on my Swiss Army Knife. It's flat, skinny, and strong, and has a nice point. The canned air is good to use after you loosen the crud.
@erikthomsen40075 күн бұрын
Would you care to explain why you wouldn't use metal? As long as the port is powerless, there shouldn't much risk of damaging anything electrically. Of course, mechanical damage is always a risk, if you're not careful.
@cubnation5 күн бұрын
@@erikthomsen4007 Aren't you charging your battery? You risk ruining the battery, and your phone's "motherboard," not shocking yourself.
@erikthomsen40075 күн бұрын
@@cubnation No. For one, the battery is not connected directly to the USB-C port. There is a charging circuit in between - otherwise charging from a standard USB port simply wouldn't work. Also, turning off the phone and removing the battery will absolutely make the port powerless. Damaging the motherboard electrically requires either a destructive voltage (with sufficient charge), or a destructive short-circuit. By removing the battery (or probably just by turning the phone off) the possibility of a short-circuit is gone, as the port itself is now powerless. That leaves the possibility of a destructive voltage. Unless you put actual powered wires into the port, the only way to generate a destructive voltage is with static electricity. While signal ports are usually protected against ESD (Electro-Static Discharge), a powerful enough "zap" can be damaging. But what generates static electricity? Electrical insulators such as (drum roll...) plastic! When working with sensitive electronics, the absolute worst thing is random plastic materials. That's why serious electronics labs have ESD safe tool, where e.g. the handles on screwdrivers are made of dissipative materials, that is, not quite insulating, and not quite conductive. Thus, a static charge will dissipate, rather than build up to a dangerous level. Tools made entirely of metal are inherently ESD safe. Wood, cardboard and paper are also considered safe, as these materials suck up some moisture from the air. The human body is also ESB safe - it is typically unsafe clothing, footwear and carpeting that builds up static electricity in humans. In order not to fry electronics with static electricity, the most important thing is to be at the same electrical potential as the device you are working with. When you hold the phone in your hand, it is difficult to be at significantly different potential than the phone. However, I wouldn't begin with wearling a polyester shirt, and roll around on a synthetic carpet. While your plastic toothpick itself is highly unlikely to build up a dangerous charge, it is made of just about the worst material you could choose for working with electronics. This is why I asked the question.
