I stumbled across this cartridge in 2000.. and boy did I fall in love with it! I purchased my second rifle.. a Remington model 700 mountain LSS It shot just about everything exceptional.. but one holed the Winchester Ballistic silvertips at 100 yards. Unfortunately.. I sold my six rifles in 2007 and didn't get another 708 until 2021. Still had two boxes of the Winchester Ballistic silvertips. Went to the range with my new Tikka T3 Hunter chambered in 708.. and first group at 100 was .55 inches. Needless to say.. my new firearms will eventually get handed down. I'll always have a soft spot for this cartridge. It's a no muss no fuss cartridge.. and just about perfect for whitetail! Thanks for sharing yours with us.. much appreciated! Oh.. my first rifle was a Savage 110.. I have an Axis ii stainless that I absolutely love chambered in 350 Legend. My beautiful firearm ❤️ The Boyd's stock is beautiful! It shoots sub moa with several different factory loads!

Hey again, and thanks for the comment again. Do you go by Third or Blackie or Boy or all three? HaHa! Anyway, I was a late commer to that 708 as well but it has done nothing but impress me. I got a mule deer with it last year and it wadded him up at about 150 yards with 140 gr CoreLoks. How do you like that Tikka? I have never been around one. I hear good things on KZfaq but don't know anyone who has owned one. Have a good one!

@@leverbolt7699 I’ve owned several Tikkas and everyone raves about them but I’ve never fallen under their spell. Yes the action is smooth as glass and they’re accurate but that’s kind of where it ends for me. I really dislike that all of the actions are the same length regardless of actual cartridge. I also don’t like that the only way to unload a round from the chamber is to put it on fire and manipulate the bolt…I much prefer guns that can be unloaded on safe.

@@leverbolt7699 I go by Blackie.. just happens I have three brothers and I'm the third of four.. lol I bought my Tikka T3 Hunter cause I love the walnut and blue together. Makes for a beautiful rifle! I brought it home cleaned it and mounted a scope then hit the range. First 100 yard shots were a three shot group that measured .55 inches.. with Winchester Ballistic silvertips Second there shot group was .67 inches with Norma Whitetail Third three shot group was 1.37 inches with Hornady whitetail I went with the Norma Whitetail and harvested a eight point this past season.. he mad dashed thirty yards and piled up! Pretty much the usual when you hit them in the broiler room!

I've always called it the 708, because that's what it is. This cartridge was introduced in 1980 if I recall correctly. The main reason that it never achieved the popularity it should have is Remington priced the cartridges twice as high as the 243 , 308 , and 30-06. If the cartridges would have been priced the same it would have been a legend.

My wife's bolt-gun is a Weather Warrior in .250-3000. There has been a .250 of one kind or another in our safe since 1964.

Yep, that's a good one to keep around! If I could only keep 2, I would have a 250 and a 308, I think.

Beautiful rifle, and I’ve always been intrigued by the 7mm-08. It’s important to note, with a 10x optic, things won’t always look as impressive on paper. Shoot straight! -Isaac

Thanks for taking the time to go over this rifle in detail. I’ve been looking at a similar Savage, the Timberline. My only concern is the weight. I’ve gotten used to sub 7lb rifles and this one being 8lbs bare is not the normal for me. I can’t find one, or even this High Country, in stock to handle. I’ve handled the 110 Hunter and Storm, but they’re like 7lbs. I understand they’re using slightly heavier barrels but weight seems a little excessive for what it is. Might be fine…I’ve been looking at the Trijicon AccuPoint and Huron scopes and they’re pretty light so it might turn out ok.

I know what you mean with the weight... I like a 7lb rifle or slightly less.

I was about to order one of these but idk now. Thats not very accurate at 100 yards for that type of money. Looks great though.
