My Savage is a 111FCXP3 package rifle in .30-06 which I bought in 2003. It has a side release magazine and the receiver is a flat back. It does not have an accu-trigger and the synthetic stock does flex a bit but the barrel is completely free floated. I've since upgraded the cheap Simmons scope to a Vortex Crossfire (I know, big spender 😏) and did a sponge camo job on the stock. The rifle shoots better than I can and has accounted for 2 caribou and three moose. I bought the rifle because it was one of the cheapest options available to me at the time but in the past 20 years I have never felt the need to replace it with something that cost more.

My first rifle was a Savage model 110 in 30-06 purchased in 1983 for $190. That rifle did not have the Accur-trigger at that time. But the trigger was very crisp with no creep and that gun shot under an inch. Every time I was at the range other shooters would comment how tight the groups were. My hunting partner has a few custom rifles costing thousands and always laughs that my old Savage shoots better than his custom setups. Still making great rifles today but the price today seems to be in line with the other big manufacturers.

Thanks for the comment Buddy! It's pretty impressive how accurate the 110's have been. I would put the better ones I have against any other rifle. The prices have definitely risen with the rest but with the "entry level" 110's like the Apex Hunter, I think you can still pick one of those up for 550.00 or so. I did that with a .308 and just put a better stock on it. Haha!

I have a Savage 7mm with the wood stock. LOVE it. I use the remington core lokt 150 grain and I'm 1 1/2" high at 100 yds. The grouping is the size of a quarter. My wife shoots the same rifle with the synthetic stock and my son shoots a Savage 308. Great rifles!!!!! I dropped a 5x5 bull elk at 150 yds with the rifle.

First rifle was the 110cl. Left hand, in 1971 . Chambered in 25.06. Hot round. Flat. Love it. Still have it.

I've got a 110 long action that I built around twenty years ago. It has a 26 inch, fluted, match grade barrel. It's in a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock, free floated. And wears a 6-18 power scope. Chambered in 30.06 Springfield. It likes 180 grain bullets the best. It's extremely accurate. I built and used it for shooting in competition. I've done very well, with it. It's big and heavy. But that makes for pretty soft recoil. A great rifle, all around.

Sounds like it's a shooter for sure. I bet with all the PRC craze today, it is still very relivent.

@@leverbolt7699 I'll have to look into that. I haven't done any competition shooting in a while. Work got in the way of life, darn it. But, I'm retired now and have both the time and the rifle.

Just purchased one of these and I’m a novice shooter any tips to help with being a better shot ?
@theinstructor2687
@theinstructor2687 Жыл бұрын
@@Dildoswaggins420 Not trying to sound condescending or obvious but, lots of practice. Shoot several different bullet types and weights and find out which one your rifle shoots the tightest groups with. Then shoot some more. Until you're real comfortable with mounting and shooting it. With repetition comes speed and accuracy. Good luck and enjoy your rifle.

I have owned and used a number of 110 savages over the years. Some were very accurate, others, not so much. I set up and sighted in my nephews brand new 110 last year and it proved to be very accurate with its preferred ammo. Past the accuracy, I found not much that I liked about it. The fit and finish was very lackluster, the magazine harder to load, harder to put into the rifle and it didn't feed the best, but the rifle did maintain one feature of all the others, in my opinion, the 110 is one of the homeliest rifles out there. I no longer own any 110's and have no urge to have any more. It is disappointing because I am a fan of the sa

Thanks for the comment James! I would have to agree for the most part. I have to say though, it took a while to get comfortable with that accutrigger but I have grown to really like it. Have a good one!

@@leverbolt7699 I really like it. It’s not a target gun but definitely plenty accurate for a hunting rifle within 300 yards and they 65cm isn’t good for much further anyway. But with a scope it’s less than 6.5lbs

I suggest everyone to stop buying Hornady. Their fps is never what it says on the box and we dont use 26" barrels in our hunting rifles so theyre not giving you numbers from a typical hunting rifle length. Theyve also have had their ELD-X i believe explode when they hit ballistics gel. Not what its supposed to do. We need to hold these manufacturers to a higher standard. Theres no honor or pride in workmanship in this country anymore. Its all about getting richer off of others with junk products. Like SIG pushing out a handgun that wasn't tested long enough to get the bugs out and now people have injuries for life. Hell some might have died and they still haven't fully fixed their problems
