I just sold my 1993 LS400 which served me flawlessly for 24 years. And I do mean flawlessly, just fluids and tires. I've owned Mercs, Porsche's, BMWs, Ford's, Nissans, among others. My LS400 was the best engineered thing I ever owned. The new owner is a fanatic so I know she's going to a good home and got another 375k in her. Going to miss you Lexi.

The interior is outstanding, About screen vs non touch screen. Now, I work at a Lexus dealership so I am with these vehicles all the time. With 1000’s of voice commands + Alexa, + CarPlay and the ability to do a ton with buttons on the steering wheel and cockpit I feel like writers / Professional reviewers get lost in the weeds on the anti touch pad sentiment. I actually prefer the touch pad because I have spent time with it, and most owners who give themselves the time come to appreciate it. He’s right, the new touch screen is at the expense of the art form. And the LS and especially LC are works of art. The LS looks even better in person btw.

I'm convinced the TT V6 in the LS was put in because: A. Low volume sales B. Torque is right there with the V8, so why not - risk v reward C. Toyota/Lexus needed a vehicle to get all the bugs out of a new engine and the LS was it. It's coming up on 5 years and hopefully, its reliability has been proven. Next up, it's gonna roll out to multiple Toyota and Lexus models.

Used LS are so rare and dear. Very hard to find precisely because they are not a volume seller. Here in the Northeast (USA), no dealer will have a used one for sale.

The ls430 ultra luxury package is also a great daily driver. The 05-06 models came with the updated transmission, acoustic glass (created a quiet cabin), air ride suspension, a refrigerator in the rear, heated and cooled seats in the front AND the rear, and more. Now can be had for under $10,000

Love the back seat driver perspective at 11:00. Good for a big sedan where important people may ride in the back.

I did a 4k mile road trip last year in an ls400, I can only imagine how incredible this one drives. I would love to take this one even further

This channel has given me a real appreciation for what Lexus has been doing the last 5 - 10 years. It feels like they put a lot of time into the cars they design. I never thought I'd say this but the new IS looks great from every angle. Now if only they can get software engineers to sort out the dated-looking infotainment systems.

I didn’t appreciate the interior quality of my Lexus enough, until I took apart some interior parts to do some mods. All the panels are made with very high quality plastic and precisely molded. Compare to the other Japanese cars I own or owned before, no wonder Lexus has a much better quality and superior interior feeling. They even do a great job at places where you may never be able to see (unless you take them apart).

I have a 2020 LS inspiration series. I owned a few older LS. The LS is asboutly the most reliable best built Luxury sedan in the world. The V6 Twin Turbo is a fantastic engine. Yes,it’s not a V8. But just as good. Has a mechanic for 30 years. I worked on many foreign vehicles. And I have to say Toyota/Lexus are no doubt the best built vehicles in the world. I watch a lot of these reviews on different vehicles. And I have to say most of the people doing these reviews don’t know the inner built quality of the cars they are reviewing. So naturally they sound like they know what they are talking about. Sadly they really don’t.

Refreshing to see a car not focused on "sport". Some folks, me included, don't always want that and would prefer to be coddled. I've always thought it was a mistake for manufactures to focus on sport at the expense of comfort, most folks don't want or need that (and I own a Corvette).

Love this car. Headroom is an issue in many Lexae, the seats don’t go down far enough. The next G90 might be a more serious challenger with tech, styling, and massage seats.

Interior is old school luxurious. Don't know when Lexus will drop a proper luxury hatchback though. The CT powertrain was just not viable for most situations. MHEV and PHEV will be fine.

I have a 2004 LS 430 and much of what Mark has to say about the current version applies to my car, basically as old as it is it's still a dream to drive, especially on long road trips. If you check forums for Lexus it's still one of the most popular LS models out there and for good reason. And remarkably enough, the price new is largely the same as it was for mine when it came out.

Yesterday, I test drove a brand new 2023 LS500 at a LA/OC Lexus Dealership. There were some very strange things going on, and this is coming from a current owner of a LS400 & RX350. First, the gas pedal travel is less than half of the travel of every car I've driven. 2nd, mash the pedal down and nothing happens momentarily, then the Twin Turbos spool up, then the speakers create a fake engine sound, and finally the car accelerates. 3rd, the run flats are 45 Profile, that's not much profile, and it is thicker to be able to run flat. 4th, there's a high frequency vibration, nothing in the standard shocks cuts it off. No air shocks. 5th, I drove the exact same route with my 2009 Camry Hybrid, and my Camry was 10 times more smooth. No high frequency bump feel. Ok, ok, please explain to me that this isn't the reason that Lexus sells about 200 LS500 per month IN THE ENTIRE US COMBINED. A Camry or RX sells 30,000 units/yr in the US. Now, I don't need the missed V-8 to trade that for mpg. But the ride? What is Lexus doing here with the ride? After changes in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023, that's 5 separate shock/damper changes which all failed. Lexus, I came to buy, I left disappointed. Why? Is dismal sales of 2,000 units/yr better than fixing the real problem: no runflats! Lastly, the Prius gear shifter is mind-bogglingly confusing in an emergency, almost to the point of being dangerous (in a Lexus). Danger in a Lexus, come on?

A friend of mine picked up a used low mileage 2017 LS460, and that V8 is amazing. I'm sure the TT 3.5L is good, but I wouldn't have it any other way but with the V8

I personally think Lexus in and out make awesome quality cars, but the only thing holding them back is the Infotainment/center console from what I've seen. They need to update the track-pad, camera quality, UI and touchscreens for all models. That's what I personally think is holding them back in sales! Wonder what Lexus will look like when they redesign all the cars... But yeah most of the complaints is the interior not necessarily the materials.

Keep in mind that this is the same twin-turbo V6 we'll be seeing with the upcoming Tundra that'll debut at the end of June, and the hybrid LS powerplant will also make it into the Tundra for the TRD Pro, but it'll be a performance version, whatever that's supposed to mean.

I wonder if the LS can still play DVD-Audio discs in 5.1 discrete channels or if it's just a CD player now?

I wish you put as much attention into testing the headlight and taillight strategy as you put into the audio system. Literally nobody ever does and it's a huge part of driving.

Great review. No nonsense with practical advice and observations. I agree that Lexus and Toyota are behind competitors with respect to infotainment. I have considered both brands in recent years but have turned elsewhere because of their poor infotainment. At my age and with my current tastes, I haven’t liked the numb feel of Lexus either. BMW has been my sweet spot brand. As I age I may desire a more isolated experience and will consider Lexus. I believe Lexus beats most of it’s German competitors in reliability. That is important. Scheduling preventive maintenance isn’t disruptive to your life but having maintenance thrust upon you can be chaotic.

I have a 250k mile LS460 that rides like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Interior and exterior too. However, when its time to part with my LS460, I'll be going with a Genesis G90 over the LS500.

I have a LS460 and an LS460L I bought new Lexus RUINED the LS with the LS500, I have gotten them as loan vehicles at the dealer and they are terrible, I actually started asking them for the ES350 as a loan car. The new LS500 has heavily bolstered seats compared to the LS460’s nice flat bolstering, the LS500 has a harsher ride, the controls and menu system is ever worse, the heated steering wheel and heated seat was on and it took me a while to figure out how to turn it off. The mark Levinson stereo doesn’t seem to have as good sound. OH and the biggest slap in the face for the LS500 is the legroom. My 2017 LS460 SWB has more legroom in both the front and rear. The lack of a V8 is the least of my worries with the LS500. I think the LS500 was supposed to have a GS label on the back and Lexus said “nope we gotta have a top of the range model” so they canned the GS and slapped the LS badge on this junk. I’m not sorry either, as someone who has been in and around the LS400, LS430 and owns 2 LS460’s this LS500 does very little to attract existing LS owners. Don’t even get me started on the interior, it’s visually beautiful but they got rid of the high quality parts, the whole center console moves around and creaks, the steering wheel is a pathetic excuse of an “update” from that amazing steering wheel in my 2017, the plastic fantastic tablet looking screen sticking out of the dash is just waiting to be ruined by the sun, oh and they took away the most iconic LS feature, the tinted gauge cluster and replaced it with some tiny small lettered cheap screen. When you have the drivers seat all the way slid back you don’t have a door armrest. I’m 6’2” and my head touches the ceiling in the rear seat, in the LS460 I have about an inch to spare. The LS500 is an automotive design joke and a disaster of a car! Something most people don’t get, when you buy a LS you don’t really care about HP or 0-60.

On Winding Road Magazine, this and Range Rover are the two quietest I have listened to.
