*A huge shout of thanks for this video.* After watching Tim Keys's video on the 25-liter Kahakka pack, I was really leaning towards the 25-liter over the 15-liter. Now that I have watched this particular video, the 15-liter Kahakka pack is the direction that I believe that I should follow. Far less chance of over packing the pack as compared to the much larger 25-liter Kahakka pack. If I desire greater carrying capacity, then I can see piggybacking my Savotta Hatka 12-liter day pack onto the face of the 15-liter Kahakka. With *ALL* kinds of options for using the four compression straps and their G-hooks to attach variously sized pouches ranging from 3-liters all the way up to 10-liters on top of the Hatka's face. Some of the options that immediately jump out at me are the following... *1.* Sarma TST General Purpose 3.2-liter Pouch, large *2.* Sarma TST General Purpose 4.85-liter Pouch, XL *3.* Savotta Askare 7-liter hip pack *4.* Savotta 4-liter Side Pouch *5.* Savotta 6-liter Side Pouch *6.* Savotta 8-liter Side Pouch *As I was typing up this post, I started wondering how practical it would be to utilize the 4-liter, 6-liter, 8-liter, and 12-liter Savotta Side Pouches in the pleated, folding, open-mouth side pockets of either the 15-liter or the 25-liter Kahakka packs? The friction between the competing 1000D Cordura fabric of the Side Pouch, and the 500D Cordura fabric of the pleated and folding open-mouth side pockets in conjunction with the G-hook compression straps should prevent any spills?*
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 22 күн бұрын
No problem. Happy to help. As for the side pouches, the 4L may work inside the pockets, but perhaps a better solution would be to simply use the side compression straps to cinch the pouches down on the outside. It would increase capacity and offer great retention.

I had a maxpedition typhoon which is about a 15l pack. I found it just a tad too small. I sold it to buy the savotta jakkari S, which is just about right atv20l plus.. anything more than 25l (ish), I have found at my age, I dont want to carry on my back.. the hip belt/butt pack is a great weight dispersing alternative.

Good Evening Jess .. 👍👍👍 .. and yet another good one generating much food for thought 😊. An aside .. the shorts. Well, it is now officially Summer, so .. . Mine come out when the morning get-up-out-of-bed temperature tops 10°C (50°F), so the knobby knees have already had some sun, fresh air and rain exposure 😁. I have mentioned previously, these posts I view with mixed feelings .. the Heart says YES! The Head, standing out from the all too shallow shorts pockets .. NYET! 😏. I need to 'Mull' over this one .. my then-budget 12 litre day pack is showing its age with inner lining tearing and such .. Thanks for sharing, my Friend .. take care .. Tommy

Awesome ability to customise to suit usages & destinations. Adaptability & functionality is favourable with our use which is Search & Rescue. Now we need to field test it to know whether extreme heat will affect its durability. Cheers mate from Australia.

Thanks brother. The adaptability is excellent. Very flexible with different loads. I don’t think the heat will be an issue with the materials. I am going to experiment with the 25 and try to mount it on an external frame for the airflow. Cheers

Great show and Tell Jess. That Kahakka and the super tarp looks like a fantastic combo. I was originally thinking a 15 in black for my daily and the 25 in brown or Mo5 for my woods runner but perhaps just one. If I had the funds it would be both but unfortunately that is not meant to be at the moment. Thanks Nate
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 21 күн бұрын
Thanks Nate. Not sure which I would recommend, as both are nice and would do both the daily carry and woods stuff. If you are into both, maybe the 15 first, as the weather is warm, and the 25 later as things cool off. Either way you go, you will enjoy.

Great video! When running the ASKARE on the waist and KAHAKKA 15 as back pack: I love the look and idea of having hips and back pack articulate separately when you bend or turn, rather than having a more locked off spine like if you had a solid 30L pack instead. The movement options are very cool. Do you think adding suspenders LC-1/2 Y style to the ASKARE could help with pushing the load? The pack straps on top of the suspenders could be an issue but I've seen people do it with their LCE.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 22 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I totally agree. The movement is optimized greatly with this kind of rig. I have been thinking about the suspenders for a bit. I have some straps to rig one up. Just light webbing, fits under pack straps well. Maybe I will rig it up for a test. Personally though, I really haven’t found the need. As long as load is reasonable and waist strap set right, it works great.
@Savotta
@Savotta 21 күн бұрын
Adding suspenders to the Askare is of course doable, but not something we intended. Suspenders will prohibit you from quickly swinging the Askare from your back to the front for easy access.

What would you prefer in terms of size and function for air travel (3-4 days of gear)? The 15L + Askare or the 25L? Asking for a friend. Ha

Very modular backback, looking great too. A comparison to the jäkki M would be interesting! Do you use the pukko 110 or 140? Greats from Europa.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 19 күн бұрын
Thanks! I go over the M with the 25 in my earlier video on both 15 & 25. The packs are similar in volume, but different. I would say that perhaps with the frame, the M would be more ideally suited for heavier loads, but the 25 is perhaps a bit more convenient to add gear to with the side pockets. If you like the M, you will love the 25. 110 pukko, absolutely awesome knife. Cheers

I'm wondering if the Askare can be worn like this, to act as a "shelf" with a Jaakari size M, or if the backpack is too long for most people.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 21 күн бұрын
It can be worn under M, but probably ideal is to mount it on the pack with the side straps. If you want to see it, some of my recent overnights from a few months ago featured the ASKARE under the M.

I was thinking of replacing my hatka. I run a jääkäri M with 8l side pouches and a hakta but I think the kahakka but im not sure how it would look. I think the 25L would be too big and look goofy but the extra space would be nice
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 22 күн бұрын
@@flaxenelbow6987 I don’t think using the 25L in place of the HATKA is going to be ideal in that situation. If more room is what you are looking for, the L is amazing.
