I don't like Ivan however I think he was important and necessary for the plot and themes of Saw 4 where the entire plot is that Rig needed to stop pursuing Jigsaw and allow jigsaw to enact justice. Ivan is meant to be the peak example of somebody who needs to get tested.

Jigsaw wanted to recruit Rig, so he chose an absolute monster, a sinister, sickening mass of dirt. Feel as I feel, how did you feel when seeing the photos? The clip? His demise? That was the point. In my opinion, his character was actually a smart choice and completely made sense

@@AJsFiguresI don’t think Hoffman and John’s game was trying to recruit Rigg as that was more a diversion away from the Hoffman reveal. Only Strahm believed that maybe Rigg was being recruited because it was his game and the words written on the walls. Riggs game was all about telling him that despite his job he cannot save everyone and that he must learn how to let go. The game was to show Rigg why Jigsaw does what he does and why he tests criminals.

I feel like the big difference between William Easton and Bobby Dagan, is that you hate to love one and love to hate the other. William is someone you watch genuinely struggle with the choices he's given and the mistakes he's made. He wants to save as many people as he can and recognizes that his fellow trap victims are innocent. He knows he has nobody to blame but himself. Bobby on the other hand doesn't feel like he puts any real effort into saving people except for Joyce. And when he fails, it feels like he blames the victims (Nina especially). You want him to lose, and you hate that when he does, he's not even the one to suffer for it.

The thing with Easton is that he's NOT just doing his job. He has a special team that looks for technicalities to cancel policies without paying. They don't catch these on the front end, and refuse to take their premiums for years. They look specifically for things they can use when a large claim is made. That's not a normal practice in insurance. They might deny certain treatments or make you fight to prove they are necessary, but they're not systematically trying to screw people out of their policies every time one gets really sick. The carousel trap said 2/3 of claims were denied at his company. Normally the industry averages 10-20% depending on the company, and most of those are because they make a judgement about the claim- it's brought on by an undisclosed preexisting condition, they policy doesn't cover that condition, the case doesn't qualify as critical yet, etc., and not because they found an error on their application from 20 years prior. He's legitimately a POS even by insurance industry standards.

I'm actually quite happy you put John as number 1. although he says "i've never murdered anyone.. in my life, the decisions are up to them" (saw 2), he actually has and it's crazy how this is sort of ignored. So i'm glad you called him a murderer and a torturer too. In Saw 1, he tells Zep "will you murder a mother and a child, to save yourself" so John actually wanted Zep to kill Godron's innocent daughter and wife. makes me wonder, is this a plot flaw? did they make saw 1 without wanting a sequel, so they made jigsaw a really bad person and wanted it to stay like that? In saw 3, he told jeff that their daughter is locked in a room and about to die, so he fully planned jeff's daughter to die if jeff failed. even all of this, i'm STILL sort of on john's side because he's done a lot of good things as well like run a health clinic and make bad people suffer (people who would've got away if john didn't exist)

19:16 Well, that's the whole *point* of Ivan. Jigsaw's goal was to get Rigg to "feel what he feels." Consequently, the audience must feel what he feels as well. Thus, Ivan was created as the one victim in the franchise no one would ever have sympathy for. And it worked!

my first thought is - solid list in the whole, but I personally would’ve included Rex (the old man who was in the schoolhouse trap for beating his wife and child and forcing them to keep quiet) in the list, probably 3rd behind Ivan. Speaking of Ivan, I do understand and appreciate the idea that Saw is a form of escapism, a break from the horror of the real world. However, for the same kf john’s philosophy, I do think seeing pieces of garbage like Ivan put into these traps are necessary to see, dare I say I’d like to see more of these types tested and tortured than had kf the more goofy ones that lend less credence to what John’s motivations are as a character. As someone who loves delving into character driven narratives and unravel their motivations / relate to their struggles, I like it when John tackles real world issues that I can relate to wanting to see the same justice dealt out against I do think they did go too far with selling Ivan to the audience though, they really didn’t m need to film “those” videos of him. Or even really show the photos in such explicit detail. It’s for those reasons I absolutely understand why people think it was too much, it was for me. They could’ve had the same catharsis of watching him die by just having his crimes named by Jigsaw, showing it was overboard. But watching what happened to him gave me more satisfaction than most Another group I probably would’ve included in the list were the skinheads in Saw 7. The raging racists deserved everything they got Final thing - shoutout to whoever is making these thumbnails. They are insane 😂

I have always waited for a mini "twist" about Seth Baxter's and Hoffman's sister death. During his game he says "it was an accident" ... So, was it desperation to ask for mercy or was there really some idea that the writers wanted/want to develop at some point where they show what really happened to Hoffman's sister and that will make Hoffman's whole path of revenge a mistake for a reason? Maybe something that hoffman didn't know about and will change everything he knew about his sister?. But... probably the new producers do not even remember that...

I wouldn't have thought of putting John Kramer on the list personally but I completely understand his inclusion, definitely a character who deserved a taste of his own medicine. But without hindsight I would have gone with: 1) Cecillia Pederson for being a cold-blooded murderous fraud who prey on the weak and the vulnerable; 2) Henry Kessler for being actively recruiting victims for Cecillia; 3) Eric Matthews for police brutality and framing people for crimes they didn't commit; 4) Xavier Chavez for being a prolific drug dealer, ruining plenty of lifes along the way; 5) Cecil Adams for first ruining peoples life with his drug abuse, and eventually being the cause of Jill's miscarriage; 6) Ivan Landsness for being a rapist; 7) Eddie & Simone (last name unknown) for being predatory money lenders; 8) Dina (last name unknown) for manipulate two people into committing crimes for her, more than willingly trying to have them try and sacrifice their lives for her. 9) Rex for being abusive towards his wife and child, with no interest of improving; 10) Bobby Dagen for being a sheer idiot, if you are stupid enough to provoke an active serial killer by making shit up, what's going to happen...

@@fuchsmila To be honest? Yes. My choices are mostly based on how much damage they likely already have caused to others and how willing they are or were to keep doing it. Anna is a cold woman who framed her husband, remorseless and cunning and she definitely deserved to be tested. But the reason why I place Dina above her, is because Anna was just a cold and remorseless woman. She saved her own ass but there is no reason to assume that she would continue ruin lifes. She wasn't a creature of habit. Dina was. While her crimes were lesser, when watched individually, she kept repeating them. She enjoyed manipulating Brad and Ryan into committing crimes for her, using their love for her to have them risk limb and freedom, just to feed both her monitary appetite and her feeling of power. Both women cared not who they had to hurt to save their own skin but only Dina did repeatedly put people so in danger for the kick. And if she had survived the Jigsaw test, she likely would have tried to further manipulate her fellow survivor into doing her bidding further or continue with other victims. Or in short: Anna is dangerous to others in very specific circumstances, Dina however made the constant conscious decision to endanger others. Hence I feel Dina deserved it more. Same reason why Rex and Cecil are on the list but Seth isn't. Seth is a murderer and a piece of shit but there are no clear indications that he was serial abuser (like Rex) or had gotten multiple chances like Cecil, only to further abuse the system and the people around him. Rex might have gotten his life back on the rails again if he had been given a change. Rex and Cecil showed they weren't interested.

I'll partly disagree with Number 1 here. Yes, John Kramer did EVERYTHING described and a lot more (like forcing multiple people to live with permanent disabilities - not having an arm can certain make a lot od jobs harder). However, I'd argue that his Brain Tumor from the cnacer is likely the cause of all of this. That means for almost all of the Saw series, John Kramer would be considered as potentially "legally speaking as per United States Law" as being insane. If John never got that Brain Tumor, I think he might have only killed Cecil out of revenge and/or Cecelia for choosing to rip him off. I'm not saying John Kramer doesn't deserve to be in a death trap completely, I just don't think he should be number 1 here since Brain Tumors can really mess with your head literally to the point of altering your very personality.

How on earth John knew that Anna killed the baby is beyond me and overall lazy writing, much like the rest of the film Jigsaw to be honest. There was nothing for John to assume other than her shouting shut-up, postnatal depression is a thing. The husband could have made the mistake and turned himself in. The guilt got the better of him so he done the most selfish act possible whilst alone in prison.

Can we all just agree that we feel kinda bad for Anna postpartum depression is not talked about enough so she probably didn’t even realize that she had it so when she killed her baby instead of getting help before she got to that point she kept it in in fear of getting shamed and when it happened she didn’t know what to do so she did the only thing she could think of and blamed her husband I’m not saying it was wrong but because her brain was messed up she didn’t realize that and then she ended up accidentally tricking herself into believing her own lies and this is the reason why postpartum depression needs to be talked about more, this actually happens to real people.

John isn't a murderer. He's never murdered anyone. Hoffman should have been number one. John didn't create him. And Hoffman has definitely killed people. Saw 3D

I have to disagree with William Easton. Sure, that's how it is in the real world. But Will's "policy" denied coverage for the most tricial and contrived reasons. Also, both he and his "dog pit" make a game of looking for loopholes in his policy to deny desperate and needy people.

I agree with Ivan's placement, but I think he's not a great character because for me, Saw is about showing the complexity of human behavior. Most of the characters do horrible things. But do they deserve torture? For the most part, I'd say no, because people can do bad things without being completely bad people. That's why we love Eric Matthews, William Easton, etc. They deserve punishment, but not the horrible painful death itself. Ivan just does deserve it. He's not interesting in the same way because he is an example of people who do the most evil shit for fun, so he has no redeeming qualities that make you care. He should've been an opening scene and nothing more.

Timothy is my #1. There are a lot of things I could say about him but for you I resist. The most I'll say is that he's the movie version of my Cecil (which makes watching his trap that much more therapeutic)
