Great Job, Great Engine... I run the 400 with the 350 crank still from back in my dirt track days of early 70's @ Wilson County Speedway... Running in my 69-Nova @ this tyme... Keep up the great work : From * The "FREE" State of the two states called 'North Carolina' have entered the American Union. The first state of North-Carolina entered as the 12th state of the union on November 21, 1789 and was established by the freemen (free people) of North Carolina. The second state of North Carolina, the 39th state, entered the American Union on June 25, 1868. This de facto government of North Carolina (the government that many people recognize today) was put into place by the United States Military, as the end result of the Reconstruction Acts (1, 2, 3, 4). These Acts imposed on us a military dictatorship, an election, a method of changing our constitution, and a constitution, all foreign to our organic law. Through the Reconstruction Acts and the forced amending of the Constitution, a military coup occurred and put into place the government of North Carolina which is operating today; no longer a government of consent by the lawfully authorized people, but one of fraud, coercion and force. Our Constitution therefore, has been dormant, but not dead, since that date... Keep well & Stay "FREE"...

Where can / or can i buy the main bearings to fit 283 crank to 400 block? Would love to build one as a medium term project..👍👍👍 awesome engine..

Have not found them and don’t think they exist. Ours is a medium main (like a 350) block, so the old-school spacers worked for us.

Well that 329 sounds great l don't know when the 400 was born but there was talk that it can over heated because of the bore size (ok so l am not so young) any problems

No problems at all! We made a couple cooling systems mods and it s as always runs cool! We’re thrilled with how it’s worked out. Thanks for commenting!

Revs beautifully but cruises at low speed happily. Sounds like it does it all. Does the TKX have the same ratio spread as the close ratio TKO?
@ceperformance
@ceperformance Жыл бұрын
Hi rotaxtwin! Great question! Here, mated to the 329 SBC is the Tremec TKX, # TCET18083, 1st: 3.27, 2nd: 1.98, 3rd: 1.34, 4th: 1.00, 5th: 0.72, reverse: 3.00. At the moment, we are rockin' 3.08's (for now) in this stock 8.2" 10-bolt. Hope that helps with your research:) Thank you for your question!

 @CE Performance Crate Engines Thanks for the info. Guess I could have Googled that, from the video it seemed to be a close ratio - maybe that's a credit to the engine build. For the record the close ratio TKO box is 2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.82, w 2.56 reverse. This is for the TKO600 close ratio / 'road race' box, the TKO500 is essentially the same as what you listed, just a 0.68 OD. I dunno the what they've changed on the TKX but guessing they reduced the rotating mass of the synchro hardware. The old boxes are at the high end of the spectrum. Keep on rowin' those gears by hand, whatever you got. Your combos really wring the most out of 87 octane, you gotta be doing some things right.

so the 400 with 327 what piston where use to get 10.1 and what rod was used 6.125
@ceperformance
@ceperformance Жыл бұрын
Your target deck height is the end goal, within the 8.990”- 9.020” depending if the block has been decked before. 327 is a 3.25” stroke so divide that by 2. So 1.625” plus 6.250” connecting rod comes to 7.857”. Subtract that from your deck height of approximately 9.005” equals 1.130” as a possible piston compression height. What’s great about this piston/rod/stroke combo with a 1.130” compression height is that you can use common “383” stroker pistons that is normally used with a 6.000” connecting rod. Therefore it’s common and not custom and expensive :)

4 wheel drums eh, take a look at Muscle Car Brakes all one word with small case letters followed by a period then a complete but only the first 3 letters of complete. I wish I could write it out easier than that but yt deletes my comment when I do! They sell ceramic brake shoes and claim 2 to 1 better braking than over the counter part store brake shoes. Worth a try the next time you need a set of brake shoes instead of converting to disc brakes? Twice the stopping power is tough to beat even with a very expensive disc brake conversion. The car looks like it's running great! I agree with you that more low end torque would ruin how that car drives on the street. Unless the goal is a burnout machine, tons of low end torque in a street driven manual transmission car will have a bunch of unusable power because of tire spin. Now with the max torque higher in the RPM range and less of it with higher RPM HP the power can get to the pavement without having to buy tires every time the gas peddle is pressed more than 1/3. LOL Building an engine for max power isn't always the best choice for every application, this little 512 HP 329 is probably a way funner engine to drive in that car than a bigger CID engine with more torque and HP that just spins the tires. Great combo yous guys built.

Is it hard to install 305 crank to 400 block ?
@ceperformance
@ceperformance 11 ай бұрын
Hello :) A 305 crankshaft and a 350 crankshaft are the same except for the balance due to the 305 pistons being so much lighter. The casting or forging is exactly the same and so are the dimensions. The stroke is 3.48”. It’s common for people to do the 350 into the 400 block so essentially a 305 would be possible for fitment. Unfortunately it would likely take a lot more weight to balance a 305 crankshaft to work with 400 pistons so I’d not try that myself. There wouldn’t really be any advantage over the 350 crankshaft.
