@davejacob5208
@davejacob5208 5 жыл бұрын
i am not sure about whether being ridiculed would interest ramsey. i actually think the only pain he feels could be from damaging his body. for example being skinned bit by bit, living in the cold, beaten every day, hungry, thirsty. one way that might be very good: blinding, cutting his tounge, making him deaf. so he is bored as fuck and can hardly feel anything but what happens to his skin and body.

maybe, but I would submit that he was very interested in proving himself as a worthy Bolton instead of just another bastard, and once he gained his title, he jealously protected his own chance for a legacy against future "true born" sons of his father by murdering his father, stepmother, and infant half brother. He also seemed to relish the power when he was named Warden of the North, so I think his ego could be hurt in that regard, with a life spent gurgling animal dongs while thousands of people who once feared him now throwing horse shit at him and laugh at him, and his knowing that even though he still lives, he will be physically unable to ever exact any measure of revenge against his enemies due to having lost all of his limbs, not even by biting them if they literally walked up and put their hand in his mouth (since he would also have no teeth). Also, with his dick rendered useless but his balls intact, he will still feel sexual urges for the rest of his life, but will be unable to ever get any relief from it, which provides yet another level of psychological torture in the daily realization that he is the most wretched, miserable, helpless man in all of Westeros and will remain so until his last breath.

Brienne's feeling of floating above herself watching the horror as if it was happening is a real thing, its a coping mechanism of a brain called dissociation. Its a out of body experience where brain tries to keep your consciousness safe from extreme trauma by pulling it away from the present. Absolutely golden writing G.R.R.

It has nothing to do with your 'brain keeping your consciousness safe..." Who the F comes up with such a dumb explanation.... Your brain cannot project your consciousness, and if it could, 'sending it outside' would do nothing to protect it, as your brain can easily be destroyed, and there goes your 'consciousness.' No; consciousness is external to the brain to begin with; it is more fundamental than physical reality itself. out of body experiences are super weird and we have no idea how or why they work. People can achieve them in a number of different ways, and in each way, new information is gained from being outside your body, so it cannot be a construction of the brain, as people claim. That is, something can be behind something from your point of view, but when you go 'out of body,' you can see it, and later, when you return to your body, you can rely what you saw. You can obviously control for this, and people report back information it was impossible to know unless they literally really left their body It goes beyond t his to when people 'died' in a hospital, or went OOB during surgery. They would report what cars drove by, what color a car was when something happened, or report on events that were going on outside the room, or outside the hospital, and obviously reported back exactly what happened in the hospital room. There is just to much evidence of consciousness existing as a primary 'substance,' while the brain is a mere anchor for our consciousness to interact with the physical world. SO no, your brain doesn't "project your consciousness" to protect it.... that makes no sense, because under this materialistic worldview, your consciousness would still die once your brain gets caved in

The scene involving Bran gets worse. After Bran is done warging into Summer he wakes up to find that Coldhands had come back with pork meat because he had "found a sow". Just like Tyrion is forced into participating with Tysha's assault, that's clearly mutual rape because Tywin left Tyrion with no choice in the matter, but Theon in particular was already broken and being threatened with yet more maiming, so the poor guy was really in no way, shape, or form consenting to anything.

What should've happened is Sansa returning home to wed Ramsay, only to find her former best friend- Jeyne Poole- already locked up and kept as a tortured concubine... Alongside Theon. Ramsay would boast about what he did to "fake Arya" to Sansa, and Sansa would have to perpetuate the ruse and pretend that Jeyne is in fact Arya. The problem with Ramsay is there's no depth or hidden vulnerability. Okay he's frustrated with being a Snow but it doesn't really explain the extreme sadism considering his father treats him fairly well. Whereas Joffrey, as cruel as he is, has weaknesses which make the TV character a lot more interesting and the violence a little less gratuitous

Don't really agree with that. His vulnerability was his desire to prove himself worthy of his fathers name to rid himself of his bastard one, see the pleasure he takes referring to Jon as 'bastard' without realizing Jon made peace with it when he hadn't even after earning the Bolton name - that's weakness. His sadistic nature comes from his houses long standing tradition of flaying their enemies alive, it's understandable for a character with his affliction to overcompensate and take the violence too far from a young age. There's plenty of depth in the characters psychology. Joffrey's psychology is different. A child of incest groomed to be King without having to earn it or understand the meaning of actions and consequences. It gives him more obvious vulnerability (i.e. lacks wisdom, moral and strategic guidance and can't physically defend himself, all of which because he never had to learn these things), but it doesn't disregard Ramsey's authenticity as a complex character driven by his own mental deficiencies just because he's more capable.
@sahrathiriet8523
@sahrathiriet8523 5 жыл бұрын
I mean, it's not necessary to live awful things for someone to become awful. Simple things can triggers a mad mind, that's all. Psychologically, we can't think like this, searching clear justification or explanation for someone's madness in his vulnerabilities or traumas or whatever. Nor is it needed to have clear vulnerabilties to write a character. To me, Ramsay's own psychology is his vulnerability. Someone with this kind of mind can't think clearly and is doomed to downfall soon or later, but more soon than later
@sahrathiriet8523
@sahrathiriet8523 5 жыл бұрын
@Booper Dooper I think it's ore realistic to write it like this, without big incident in Ramsay's life. Kayla Laverdiere I disagree on Arya killing the Freys being too rushed. The entire storyline of her in Braavos was meant to develop her character and preparing for her revenge. During her time there, she became a skilled killer, even getting her revenge on Meryn Trant. I thought finally seeing her kill Walder Frey and his entire house showed how much her character has developed throughout the 4 seasons after being at the Red Wedding, capping off the vengeance we’ve always wanted on the Freys.

I genuinely like the dark and sadistic side of the books. If an author depicts something gruesome and dark it stays in your memory and reminds you the author is probably showing how people are and were in dark times in our world. Cannablism and rape are things that happen every day in parts of our world and trying to blanket yourself from it is stupid. Also it’s a nice contrast to make the happy times stand out and make what little happy endings there are in the books feel that much more deserved. GRRM isn’t a sadist people. He knows what he’s doing. There’s a reason they are all bestsellers and people makes thousands of videos on the lore and characters.

Jaime is trying find and protect Sansa when the only way he can redeem himself is to protect a Targaryen, more specifically a living of Rhaegar's, (Jon Snow or fAegon/Young Griff) you can't betray one family and get redeem by doing something right by a whole different family. Both are falsely loyal to the targaryens and they both deserve to die gruesome deaths in the books. Barristan is going to betray Dany and join fAegon/Young Griff And I can only Hope that StoneHeart leaves Jaime with less than what he has already

@Jesse Ling him being nearby isn't the point. The point is that absolutely no thought or effort was put in on their account. He had A complete lack of concern for their well being and displays zero remorse or regret. Not even when confronted with Rhaegar's ghost he still displays a complete lack of guilt. yeah he's ready to go to hell and back to Rescue Sansa, as if that's supposed to make up for before. Saving and protecting Sansa by no means compensates for the three lives he blatantly disregarded and dismissed. I'm sure he was there when the bodies were presented, yet nothing symbolizing that oh Jaime is really ruined by this and he's going to deeply regret this and carry the guilt for the rest of his life.

I think the way Joffrey's childhood was portrayed was moreso a way for us to see that the abuse that Robert gave to him turned him down a road of needing to please him in anyway he can. Knowing Robert loves hunting, he took the opportunity to try and show Robert what he had 'hunted' (albeit very cruelly) and Robert responds with more abuse. That's just my SUBJECTIVE perception of it. Banger video, king

Good compilation but surprised you didn't mention some of the darker dragon related scenes as well, like when the "cute" baby dragons began eating the severed heads of the other leaders of his mercenary band that Dario brought to Dany. I expect that in the future books we will see the adult dragons eating a lot of enemy soldiers while on campaign described in vivid detail as they also do in Fire and Blood.

Weirdly in some areas the show made things more rough. In others they cut out moments that just seemed really damn gratuitous. A lot of it relates to Gregor. In the shows he is a reliable enough brute but the books had him be far too unstable for even Tywin to trust. Big guy or not he had a crippling addiction to opium and way too comfortably and routinely killed Lannister soldiers. Tywin would have been smart enough to not let him live and focus on the just as capable Sandor instead.

The worst parts and character is definitely Ramsey. He’s so realistic and that’s what makes it scary. He gets off by inflicting pain and misery on people. He gets joy from instilling fear and destroying someone’s identity. It’s terrifying how he can totally seem like a friend but then turns out to be the devil in disguise. Him cutting off the theons penis was way too much I felt so bad for him during that episode. He totally destroyed him and he was never the same.

Love the list. I think some of these are more due to logistical issues, like having to put Peter Dinklage in 3 hours of extra make up every time he needs to shoot a scene to get his nose exactly right.

While I could see wanting to make it less gruesome, I also think they kept Tyrion to just getting a huge scar on his face instead of losing most of his nose because the cost of constantly making a character as important as Tyrion look like he lost most of his nose would really eat into the budget since most of that would have to use computers to take away his nose. That is why Snow was left out of the Battle of the Bastards since they already spent a lot of money to put a giant into the battle or why Ghost was absent from Season 7 since they had put way more focus in the dragons than they usually did. Think of how much Tyrion has been in the show, they would have to constantly make sure that he looked like most of his nose was gone. So it was most likely more cost efficient to just have Peter Dinklage sit in a make up chair and make a scar for him on his face. Though I did like Cersei making a snide comment to Tyrion about hearing a rumor that he lost his nose in the show.

Right after that scene of Summer eating one of the Crows, ColdHands brings in a “hog” or what he says is a hog. So strange that ppl who have been cannibals ha e described the taste of human meat as tasting like pork. It’s also very close in anatomy to humans.

3 things that disturbed me the most from the books: 1. Varys describing how he was castrated (which I guess was in the show, too, but the book’s scene was much more convincing ) 2. The book’s description of Unsullied training. At the beginning of their training, they are given a puppy and at the end they have to strangle it to death to show they have no more compassion left. Also, they have to murder a baby in front of its mother as part of their training. 3. The fact that Rhaegar and Elia Martell’s child wasn’t murdered by the Mountain, rather their child was switched out with a random child from flea bottom by Varys. The actual Targaryen boy is still alive, but some random baby from Flea Bottom was slaughtered in his place. It’s just very nihilistic.

Number three most likely didn’t happen. There are several hints that Aegon in ADWD is a fake. Hell, for Varys to be able to pull off such a thing, he would have to somehow know that the Mountain would crush his head to make him unrecognisable.

They also downplayed Gregor violent streak as well as Joffery. In the books he had been married twice before & apparently killed both of them or they disappeared, as well as his & Sandor's sister who Sandor barely remembered.
