With patch 6.4, Scholar got some AoE Adjustments, but also got some major changes to how its pet works: -> Fey Illumination, Deployment Tactics, Seraphic Illumination, Consolation and Expedient now apply their buffs in a 30 yalm radius. -> Sacred Soil is now a 15 yalm area of effect. -> Your pets will now IMMEDIATELY cast any commanded action exactly where they stand *if they are following you*. They will always prioritize commanded movement ("Place") over commanded actions. This means that if you were in the habit of placing your pet anywhere before combat, or in general micro managing the position of your pet, then you will see no change. If on the other hand you let your pet follow you around, they will stop instantly to cast commanded actions instead of run up to where you were first, making it feel slightly more responsive. -> Summon Selene no longer exists as a spell, and you only have Summon Eos. However, if you go to your Arcanist Teacher in Limsa Lominsa, there is a new quest (unlocked at level 30) called "A Faerie Tale Come True." When this quest is completed, you unlock the /petglamour, /petglam and /egiglamour commands (they are all functionally the same), which are used as follows: /petglamour [summon] [glamour] Inputs for [summon] is more important for summoners, as there are multiple options here, but for Scholars, you simply write "Eos" here. Inputs for [glamour]: "Selene", "Carbuncle", "Emerald Carbuncle", "Topaz Carbuncle", "Ruby Carbuncle". The Quotes are important. To reset your glamour back to normal, simply write /petglamour "Eos" Without inputting a Glamour option at all. To see the tutorial on the command in game, write /? /petglamour Enjoy!

My only issue here is not pointing out that the upgrade to Broil IV is very significant: It means you get to hear the best sound effect in the game over and over. I sometimes worry I get too damage-happy when playing Scholar in later content entirely because I want to hear that sound more.

Haha, I hadn't considered that! But it is a strangely satisfying sound it makes! ^^

I like to use dissipation right before we finish off the mobs from a big pull before starting another. Usually by the time the tank stops the pull again the fairy is almost back and she's not great at healing mid pull anyway I find.

Indeed, I do think it is the most effective way to use that cooldown in dungeons! 😊

like a lot of aoe damage/heal-over-times, the regen of sacred soil will give its regen potency as an initial heal when the effect is created, as well as the listed regen, for 600 total regen and a 10% mit for every party member in range

You are absolutely right. I forgot about the initial tick. As you say, all Placeable AoE damage/healing over time effects have an additional opening tick right when they are placed. For Scholar this of course means that Sacred Soil beats even Lustrate for healing just a single target (Although, even if it were only 500 potency over its duration, I still think it would beat it ) To be sure I didn't miss any others I checked all the other placeable AoEs, including some I already knew ticked an extra time, and it isn't just a lot of them, but all of them that have an initial hit! DRK Salted Earth ticks an extra initial time. WHM Asylum ticks an extra initial time. SMN Slipstream ticks an extra initial time (Before even the actual attack lands too). NIN Doton ticks an extra initial time. MCH Flamethrower ticks a total of 11 times over 10 seconds, so it also has an extra initial tick. Anyway, thank you for pointing out the mistake, hopefully the error does not cause anyone to choose lustrate over Sacred Soil! 😅

This could be quite limited but when you are in alliance raid, you might want to deploy the shield from yourself, as some party members can be too spread out or the tank waiting at a spot far away from others, or even when your tank is the main tank, a sage from another alliance could be too helpful and shield your tank before you can deploy anything, this is definitely not from personal experience. come on man save that for your own party...

That is a good point! To extend on this, in a raid context where your co-healer is a Sage (for some reason), it is generally better for the Scholar to not apply shields unless it is coordinated with the Sage, since the Sage derives resources from the shields themselves, and the Scholar does not. Naturally, if the shields are needed for survival, that is a different story! For your alliance raid example, yeah, I don't know, maybe apply Adloquium to THEIR tank to spite them? 🤣
