Just wow. Yes, probably faster than Schubert intended. Normally, too fast equates to rushing, and a loss of consistent timing, parts of the passage faster than others that should be in the same time. But there is no rushing here, for Kissin it is a comfortable speed. The touch is there too. Rubinstein is wonderful, just different. Kissin is right at the limit of acceptable 'emoting' for me, but Rubinstein is class.

Kissin is a very organic romantic pianist! Everything soft, softer and somewhat over -sensitive! His style is deeply rooted in Russian artistic style, typical for literature, music, theatre and even painting. The nation for centuries deprived of simple dignity, was able to protect itself with excessive sensitivity, romantic feelings and love for beautiful things. Yet his compatriots: Richter, Gilels, Sokolov, Yudina do not fall in that cathegory. Their style is much stronger, yet still sensitive. Their Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert sound rebellious, philosophically deep and universally understandable with not a hint of over-sensitivity, even in Schumann or Chopin.

When Evgeny was very young, he played a concert with Liszt's "Waldesrauschen" as an encore, and could be seen running his hands thru his coiffure towards the end of the piece at the point at which there is a challenging run in the right hand. It appeared as if he may have been showing off a bit in this gesture. Other performances have been more emotional, but that one was played with less concern to the feeling of the piece. The mechanical reproduction of piano music I agree is worthy of derision and criticism and is not often the case with Evgeny Kissin.

Benjammin' Yes that may be true but listen him play Liszt trascendental etudes in my opinion he plays No.8 and 10 better than anyone else, tons of emotion and spirit.

I honestly enjoy the faster speed at which he played. Seems good to me, although technically this piece wasn't meant to be this fast, I like what he had done.

6/29/1974 recital program Steinway Concert Hall (teacher Yolanda Jacobson) lists my twin brother Stewart playing this. I didn't get to go. Don't know if he played the whole thing. Great to FINALLY experience it (here) Stew died 6/18/1994, wish we'd talked about this performance and his later judged audition

In my humble opinion, this is a phenomenal interpretation of this impromptu. Even though I find the tempo a bit fast, he plays with such incredible emotion, clarity and musicality that I think I can easily get used to the speed. Kissin is an amazing pianist at the pinnacle of his career. If you like this impromptu, try Horowitz and Rubinstein interpretations. They are surely not to be missed!

What incredible concentration and study he has had for so many years to be able to play these pieces and give them to us. Without them, what would life be like? They are our heaven on earth. What has he given us? His heart, his soul, his spirit, every single dimension in his being, even his very life. I feel such gratitude to him. Very little in this life can compare to what he gives so we can experience this heavenly music.

Il brano inizialmente, in do minore, ha un andamento discorsivo, molto raccolto e intimo, con l'insistenza sempre sullo stesso tema, ampliato e sviluppato con delicatezza di armonie. 초입부가 너무 쫓기는 느낌으로 조금만 여유가 있었다면 최고의 연주네요 특히 클라이맥스라 할수있는 부분은 심각한 대화를 아님 격렬한싸움을 하듯 멜로디와 반주가 넘 감동적으로 다가옵니다 나중에는 속삭임으로ᆢ 최고의 연주라 생각됩니다

I admire and respect Master Kissin very much. I have been to several of his concerts, in my layman's opinion Kissin is one of the best pianists in the world.
