in general the wheeler method is okay, but, if the rail is not level, the turret caps are not level, or the level is not perfectly level, errors will be induced. i follow this up with checking via plumb line. at short distances, these minor potential errors do not matter, but farther out, accuracy will be affected.

Hi Howard! Totally agree with everything you said. You bring up a really good topic and one that I'm going to do a video on...The Relativity of Shooting. For example, given our discussion here, IF the scope IS off level, but, when I'm on the rifle, I make the scope reticle level to the target, even if say, the rifle itself is canted 10 degrees, will I still hit a target at say 900 yds with a 10 mph wind that makes me hold (or dial) say 1.4 Mils of wind? As long as I have a straight trigger pull that doesn't affect my shot (I'm not saying a level trigger pull here), my answer would be YES, I'll still hit the target because the scope that I've made level MYSELF in position is STILL parallel with the concentric barrel's centerline. Not saying we shouldn't care about it, but my thought is that when you're behind the rifle, you'll naturally adjust and level the reticle with your target. Now, if you're using a bubble level or send-It like I do, and it's not sync'd with the level of the scope, then yep, you'll be off because the reticle will be noticeably off. Probably not making sense, but it's like getting the velocity of your rounds using three different chronographs...You'll get different results. They may be small differences, but you will, so in the end, we use the reading as a reference point for truing our DOPE. Same with case measurements on the shoulder when reloading. Different shoulder gauges will give me different readings, so I pick one and use it as my relative measurement when bumping my shoulders. This relativity topic has intrigued me since I started reloading. Anyway, thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching my friend!

Hi Ballard! I had one done, but canned it because I didn't like it. Going to do one very soon since I now run Gen III's on both my competition rifles...Short answer is, they fixed everything I found wrong with the original and I'm loving it now. Thanks for watching my friend!

@@The4GunGuy thanks for the reply, I’m 99.9% decided on the gen 3. Also I’d like a recommendation for a place to purchase this optic, eurooptic seems spendy but they’re in stock. Also do you think vortex will drop a new gen 3 in the 3ish-27ish range soon?

@@ballard-bt2ts If you're a PRS member, you get a pretty good discount at Eurooptic. And if you're Mil/LE they'll run sales that get you this scope sub $2k...Yes, sub $2k. I got both mine for under $2k and I'm not even Mil/LE. Look for their sales.

How about greasing the rail ?

Hi Thomasteac8919! I have never greased the rail, but have heard of others doing that. I guess my thought is that if there's on the you don't want to move, it's the scope mount, and grease is designed to allow parts to move easier. Just my thought.
