Just found your story today, and even though it happened a few weeks back now, don't worry about it too much, these things happen! I once pulled down a steel gate post (with gate and lump of concrete still attached!) with the under run bar of my trailer while making a tight turn into a yard! (A yard which I had driven into many times) Wasn't a beginner driver, should have known better, was literally trying to cut a corner and failed! The yard man wasn't too happy about it, but I pointed out that if it was that easy to pull down, it must have been ready to fall down anyway! Some muttering from him about "bleeping drivers", etc, and to my surprise, never heard any more about it! Went back there much later and a new post and gate was in place, yard man didn't recognise or remember me! Accidents happen in the world of road transport, the main thing is to learn from them and live to fight another day. At least no one was injured, that would have a different story! Thanks for sharing mate!

Done it a couple of times driving rigid with HIAB. Always happened when reversing before the wagon has fully leveled. Spray suppressor caught under the wheel and ripped the mud guard off. They say you learn from your mistakes but I'm obviously a slow learner. Nice video, safe travels.
@JaidenJimenez86
@JaidenJimenez86 6 жыл бұрын
Lol I got a rigid stuck down a single track lane. Customer's place was down there, they said to come down, checked it all out on gmaps. Gets steeper and steeper, but I'm still OK to reverse out. Get to a corner, stop, got out and eyeballed it to be sure it didn't get worse further on. Hop back in and try to reverse to get a better angle at it as it was quite tight. Can't reverse, can I? It's winter, and the tyres are on the mud either side of the tarmac. All that happened was the truck kept skidding forwards. Nose touches the hedge, so I stop, got the customer then called the depot. Explained all this and said I'm not going to get through the corner without damage as I can't backup to get the side of the wagon away from the side (stone wall on the inside of the corner...). "Well we can't do anything for you so just crack on and do the best you can". Fair enough, I thought, I just stuck it in low range first and crept round, tearing the door mirror clean off as I go. Halfway round I stop and get out again to eyeball things, get back in, try to move off, wagon doesn't move. This whole time I'm fucking about with the clutch, parking brake etc so I assumed the air was getting a bit low so I just gave it some welly. Still didn't feel right, so get out again, but this time I look up, and see that my tail sweep has gone in the hedge, and a hidden tree stump had wedged itself in the top corner of the box, tearing a 6 foot hole in the curtain. Also the tail light had been ripped off. Phoned the depot again, explained it, asked if they were sure they want me to carry on... "yes" was the answer. Couldn't move, customer comes out with a chainsaw, cuts the tree stump out. By this time, some older guy who said he'd run a haulage firm of 20 years comes out. I told him what I'd done, and that I was a new driver and needed a bit of guidance. "No worries, you're clear now, follow me up to my yard at the top of the hill and I'll get a forklift out to tip you, I know these customers". With no nearside mirror, had to go up a 3m wide narrow track covered in mud from tractors, with camber to the nearside, no nearside mirrors, telegraph poles on the nearside, and it was STEEP. Back end of the truck was stepping out the whole way up, I just left it in a good gear and booted it to keep the speed up. Got up without a hitch, got tipped, van from the company comes out to replace the light and the mirror, I drive home with a torn curtain and a severely dented frame. Went back to the company the next day to have a chat with the boss off my own back to keep them happy, they said it wasn't my fault (even though I'm the driver, not anyone on the phone), agency said the same thing, everyone was happy. It was a shitty old wagon anyway. Lessons learned - check your notes. Guess what I was delivering to a small residential cottage? 2 dumpy bags of bloody gravel. How was I supposed to get that off? Could have abandoned that drop entirely. Also, never believe it when someone says "We get trucks down here all the time"....they're probably thinking of Luton vans. Funnily enough was in a tiny little 12 tonner not long after and refused a delivery due to a sharp corner, customer gets severely pissed that he had to meet me off-site, got all sorts of complaints. You can't win lol.

I had a similiar situation to that but I had a big audience while dealing with it. I was doing bus charters and following the directions I had been given and they sent me into a small street that quickly became a narrow lane way in the city centre. I had 50 school kids and 2 teachers on board that all told me I should have turned the street before to which I said if only you had of said that before I turned into this one! So now I am stuck with 1mm clearance either side of the bus with a light pole on one side and a car parked directly opposite the pole. To make matters even worse everyone that was walking around and see's the bus in this lane way stops to watch how im going to get myself out of this mess, about a group of another 10-15 people with more amassing at the end of the street all pointing. I had to tuck both mirrors in and drive blind and rely on the kids and teachers telling me if I was about to hit the car or pole, Igot there eventually but my god did I give the person that wrote those directions out a spray when I got back to the depot. This was in the days well before GPS was around before anyone asks why didnt I use one. The fun and games of heavy vehicle driving, did it for 25 years that was enough.

Years ago, I was driving a Ford Cortina as a minicab. I parked in a pub car park facing a wall that was about 2 feet high. After sitting for about 10 minutes I got a call on the radio for a pick up. I forgot the wall was there as I couldn't see it from the drivers seat. I let off the handbrake and accelerated hard into the wall, creasing both wings and the front valance. I was angry with myself but not exactly a hanging offence!

Oh and another time I rushed out of a yard as I was several hours late, drove 2 minutes down the road, join the A30, TNT 7.5 tonner flashing his lights and beeping his horn at me. Was thinking about it as I went down the slip road. As I join the A30 "Ah....bollocks"......I'd left the tail lift down and the door up xD Swung into a layby to pack all that away before someone spotted it hahaha

i have been a trucker for just over 6 months now and done loads of misstake, i have pulled of a hose with some alcohol based liquid in it with out releasing pressure- ended up smelling like alcohol for a month, i have had to scrap 25 tones of cyanide because of misstake from me, the guy unloading and the one who sent the tankcontainer, i have reversed in to a staircase, sent a coworker to the get the wrong tank, forgotten to close bottom valve (severaltimes), showered in bindings (technicly not my fault but still, and obviously been late several times (mostly cus of my boss making bad planing), still only had one job tho and seams like i will be there a while. shit happens and it is something you just have to exept.

I know this video is 4 years old now, but I had an incident with a forklift, I saw a poorly placed pallet and went up to straighten it out, as I inserted the forks I clipped the middle rail of the pallet, and due to the angle I was trying to sort out, it got shunted off the back rail, and landed on the sprinkler pipe, causing it to rupture and flood that section of the warehouse, a total of £40k damage. I still work for that company, and I still don’t live that down, that was 5 years ago.

I've just started driving buses in August and after 2 million miles of taxi driving I'm starting over with the learning process. Totally different and I'm going through exactly the same as you. Every day is different with a new scenario or situation to deal with. The reason I think you will do well is you are taking on board what you did wrong and learning from it rather than keep doing the same things again. You will go far with your attitude I'm sure, subscribed and all the best 👍

As long as you learn from your mistakes then you will be ok. Due to a faulty fifth wheel my trailer dropped off I was loaded with glass for recycling luckily it didn’t do any damage and I also hit a gas tanker on a single track road my lorry was a right off. Did I learn from my mistakes yes I slowed down and constantly check my lorry and load. Do all your daily checks keep to the speed limit take your brakes and most of all is if you don’t feel well don’t drive. I was a lgv 1 driver for 24 years never did sick always carried on till one day I found out I had a heart problem which I was born with and never knew about I handed in my license and a few months later had major heart surgery and never driven again. The doctors told me that my heart before surgery was ready to burst and I wouldn’t know a thing lights out. So never drive when unwell and if in doubt go to your doctors I was born with this and never knew about it. I’ve had 4 people die in my arms over the years due to rtcs in front of me and it’s awful. So keep on trucking be safe do your daily checks were human we make mistakes but learning from them is the most important thing
@ScottAndrews

+Steven Fraser My trailer dropping off is a major fear of mine. Sounds like you've had it rough. Hope your alright now dude. And if i'm ever ill or tired i dont drive. Not worth the risk of getting others hurt
@stevenfraser2640
@stevenfraser2640 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah just get into a routine of how you do your checks and when you tip or load check again things can and do go wrong. I’ve had wheels come of on the M74 blow outs etc never be complacent and never think oh it will never happen to me. Your license your life 44 tonnes can do a lot of damage and kill many people. As a professional driver you have lots to think about bridges, other car drivers weather the list goes on. Any driver that says nothings ever happened to me are liars we’ve all made mistakes. If you’re an agency driver then remember you will be driving different vehicles different trailers. You just have to look on KZfaq to see things that go wrong for lgv drivers and there’s stuff you can watch to see how to do it. I was always a believer in watching and learning and asking if you’re not sure never be afraid to ask it’s better than the phone call you have to make when you make a boo boo and it normally costs more to. Be safe my friend keep trucking and don’t worry about what other people say we all had to start at the beginning and we’ve all made mistakes and always will it’s learning from them that’s important because if you don’t you could have plenty time when you go to jail. Stay safe
@AbdulMateen.

Steven Fraser I work in a warehouse loading and unloading trailers. A driver backed on to a bay and went off to the drivers waiting room whilst I took the load of the trailer, I emptied the trailer and all I needed to to was check all the right stock had been sent to us but it was my break time so I went off to my break. Whilst having my break the driver had a heart attack in the waiting area. If I had checked all the stock before I went to my break he would have been back in his wagon and had his heart attack on the road somewhere causing unthinkable damage to other road users. So lucky in a way but still bad he had a heart attack.

Abdul Mateen yeah it’s funny how things work out. Like you said if he was on the road you don’t know what damage he would have done I’ve had friends die at the wheel of his bus after dropping of his passengers. One died in the back of his lorry another died climbing into his cab. To all drivers if you don’t feel well don’t drive get yourself checked if you don’t and you do take ill and kill someone you will have plenty time on your hands to think about it in jail. Stay safe

I was with a mate who did the navigating so we were in France heading back to UK and the route he chose was over the Massif Central, in a Westerly or Northerly direction. Narrow, very high, no barriers, fun city! And that was a 7.5t, I can't imagine that in an Artic! Another time in Germany, the fork lift entered the back of truck raised his forms and the fork lift guiders went up straight through the plasticky roof!

Remember EVERYONE else was once new at it, AND they stuffed up! Half-baked heroes are a penny a pound in the industry always with their opinion of what you did/how good/bad you are for participating. They are the worst guides, and protective of their tiny knowledge. If you strung all your lessons end to end, you could get it all learned in less than a week, but how much did you stress learning it yourself, or dwelling on their opinions. Ignore them and be the change in the industry that transforms it to welcoming and helpful. The best blokes I remember in my work stopped to wish me well, say hello, wind a leg, hand up a strap, or offer some good advice. I try to be like them all the time now, and my crew like me for that, like the culture we've developed on shift, and pass it on, because we're all much happier doing our jobs without the bitches at our backs.

Everyone who works makes mistakes. If you worked in an office the worst mistake would be spilling coffee over your keyboard or an email sent in error. Because you drive a truck the mistakes are more dramatic, but its human nature to make an error once in a while. What was it that George Harrison wrote in his song 'while my guitar gently weeps' ,? He wrote "with every mistake we must surely be learning" a wise man and great musician .

Scott, the same thing is easily done if you un-couple from a weighted trailer and dont bother lowering your air bags on the tractor unit , because you've done it a 1000 times before without any issue. Until this time your un-coupling from a brand new tractor unit and everything is still nice and new and tight, and you rip the mud guards, lights and all off ...........................ouch You learn every time you go out and drive, and you keep learning until one day you decide you have had enough, which in my case is fast approaching :) Class (1) 27 years on nights.................................................................

~20 years ago I saw a 50 tonne front loader reverse into a Ford Transit... That left a mark - one of the loader wheels pretty much ran over the bonnet. Fortunately no-one was inside at the time but the Ford was written off, the plant driver wasn't held to blame as the Transit had been driven into an area where they would stop the loader if people or other vehicles were around, so no banksmen required when the loader was operating. Parked right behind the loader (in his blindspot) and wandered off.

Everyday is a challenge, don't break your self up about it. I have so.... many stories, but the most fondant one is backing down a country lane in the pitch black to unload 24 tonnes on cabling for a solar farm, being reassured that the surface at the end of the lane is strong enough to take the weight of the loaded trailer. Well 6 hours later being towed out by a bulldozer obviously proved the surface wasn't suitable. The mud was at the top of the legs forced into the chassis and the unit and trailer looked like I've been rallying in it. The boss was not to pleased.

We all make the occasional mistake, the trick is to not repeat them. Truck on driver.

I've been a truck driver for 29 years and I can tell you that yes, it is possible to have a blowout at under 5 miles per hour. Sometimes, all it takes is to get to where you are going just before it blows, and then it does blow once you start manoeuvering, especially on a trailer, because of the flexing of the (weakened) sidewall.

My bad day was few months back. I went Fosters Bakery to collect a load of gluten free bread buns , thousands. Strapped them all in, just going round a roundabout and heared a load of rumbling, opened the back doors and the buns were everywhere , ruined, I didn't close the straps properly , got a final written warning .

Tell me about country lanes. I got lost near Stoke . The M6 was closed from junction 18 going north, so I took this country road thinking it would lead me back on M6 further up which it would have if it wasn't for a flaming bridge 2inc too tall I was. Had to reverse quarter of a mile in the pich black night, stressful it was.

got it kid it was googles fault but now sorted,my kerfuffle was when i hitched up to my first air suspension unit to a non air trailer back in 1992,i just backed under the trailer and the trailer pin was higher than the 5th wheel and i smashed the units rear lights and put a dent into the fridge,the gaffer was not amused but he just reminded me for a month of my little mishap,your not the first and certainly wont be the last so keep the vids coming kid and give a retired class 1 driver something to do.

In oz we use a lot of truck and trailer combos, I was chaining out ( spreading )some road base cement treated rubble on a worksite in preparation for an assembled bridge move, I've been doing this a while.. The grader operator told me to put the trailer bin higher to start the product out early, I declined, was called a pussy, obviously went higher, let the brakes off, in gear, lurched forward to start the spread, load shifted and trailer fell on its ass, dolly a couple of metres in the, bent drawbar, bent towing eye. Could have been much worse. My point is, tell the operator to fuck off next time and I'll do what I do. Lol. Still gainfully employed.

About 30 years ago when Trailers didn’t have Air Parking Brakes I wound the parking brake on after dropping it on Quay Side at Grimsby Docks after dragging it from Aberdeen, Having a dodgy night out at home ! Went back next morning missed the pin Twatted the headboard trailer went into dock paper reels the lot !went back to yard at immingham picked up my next trailer bound for Great Yarmouth ! About 4hrs later rang in from customers phone telling them I’d tipped , Then the question James where did you drop your trailer this morning? Why in the yard I said ! Bollocks they not only took the shunter but a load as well ! Fortunately for me the shunt motor got nicked in the night so they presume to this day they took trailer as well !!!

I've watched a few of your tubes (well bits of them), and had a feeling you hadn't had your licence that long. I'm not knocking you, because we all have to start somewhere. But I've been driving lorries (and that's what they are in this country) for 38 years and I'm still learning. And if you come across a driver who thinks or says he knows it all, "bullshit". We all make mistakes and sometimes really stupid one's, we all have good and bad days sometimes going into weeks, and we all beat ourselves up about it. But usually we don't make the same mistake twice, we learn from it. So crack on, you are not doing anything anyone else hasn't done.

Once dropping a loaded tipper in a yard I worked at, wasn't hooked up and legs were already down, wasn't even fully under the trailer. I get in, forgetting to check whether or not the legs were on the ground, which they weren't. So I drive forward and the kingpin drops straight on top of the batteries (was in a Volvo, batteries located at the rear) At first I was worried because yknow I've just smashed a really expensive truck battery. Boss walks over, "just take it to the garage, put a new battery and cover on" say no more about it. Next shift the driver of the very same lorry did the exact same thing, shit happens!

Over the years I have done a truck full of f... ups. Missed the pin more then once, damaging the back of the truck, or the lights or the pin, forgot about a car parked next to me, ripped curtains, gone north instead of south (before sat navs) and went to wrong addresses, dropped trailers without winding legs down. In my defense most mistakes happened towards the end of the week or end of a very long shift when i was really tired. did you not think of warning the other driver, but shouldn't you leave an inch or two of drop height?
