In this video I scrap a dryer completely to show how much more money you can make versus just selling it as shred steel.
Here is my video where I show how to remove silver contacts.

@@scrapitall200 I found an empty coin jar/piggy bank in a dumpster once. That’s where all my change goes I’ve found scrapping. There was a man at the scrapyard once picking up coins he didn’t know where they came from. I noticed a busted open dryer behind my truck. I scooped out a big handful of change and gave to him, probably $5+ and I scooped out the rest for me, it was also over $5, just piled in the corner of the dryer sheet metal.

My neighbor and me live just north of a small city. The city has 5 areas for garbage days. Also, the area north has either private removal, or a recycle center that sells bags. We go with small trailers to get all kinds of things. People also have called since the word got around, and we have got whole bunches of scrap for various reasons such as a new homeowner cleans out the pole barn, or a new house. We also have a lot of farmers East of us and sometimes they don't want to deal with something, so they call us. We get tons and know the scrap center well.

I used to sell lots of dryer drums, for about the same money you mentioned. Have gotten gold & silver jewelry and of course lots of change and the occassional bill from them also. Most I have gotten cash wise from a single dryer was about $30 Canadian. The Loonies and toonies ($1 and $2 coins) add up quick. Many of the cabinets make for good little work stations/counters (if you put them back together,) as well. I also used to save the plastic gears from the little motors and sell them in a bulk lot on ETSY as craft and art supplies. Some of the newer dryers are worth checking up on for reselling the components, as well, especially switches and such that commonly fail in certain ones.

Also I fill up soup and vegetable cans with small screws and junk and put them in dryers, stoves, and refrigerators, ( all dismantled), to recycle. my best change find in a dryer was $12 something. I always assume my dryers, garbage disposals and garage door openers are going to be aluminum and not copper. my main yard i use pays the same price for cast aluminum, aluminum wire, sheet aluminum, all aluminum radiators, etc, doesn't matter, the same price and it all gets thrown in the same bin at the yard. i still separate by category but since i have come back to scrapping it is all dumped together now there.

Washers, dryers and Microwaves are usually all easy repairing them & reselling for 5X the disassembled value. Dryer was probably blown thermal fuse. The lint stopped air flow and the thermal fuse popped, $3 bucks in parts. If the timer is bad then sell other parts on evilebay for 20 bucks and the rest for scrap.

We're going to find out here real soon how much silver in those contacts. Ive been collecting up all the switches, potentiometers, relays and things from appliances to do just that. I can say from experience that auto relay contacts run %61-70 silver. It seems from videos ive seen from other youtubers, these contacts tend to be mostly copper with a thin silver layer on the face. Im willing to "waste" some nitric acid to find out. The plan is to collect 31.1 grams (1 troy ounce) and find a percentage. I might just do a smaller 10 gram run to make the math easier. I think a copper cell is also coming. That is probably the most economical way to recover the silver from these if they turn out to be plated

As you said, everyone has to determine for themselves if it is worth it to scrap things out. Just curious how long it took you to do it for the extra $4? Sometimes I do tear things fully apart and sometimes I have so many other things to do which would bring in more money, so I just take the 'low hanging fruit' (as I call it) and put it in the shred pile. Love your videos. Blessings brother

You should include the amount of time it takes you to fully process the scrap. If, say, it takes 2 hours to fully process a dryer to be worth about $14, versus selling it as shred for about $8, you’re only making $3 an hour for the work you put in, which is not worth it imo.
