@@JSmusiqalthinkalol bro rock is not rap. But ok. Now rap invented rock? Blues started alot. But blues wasn't rock. And blues originated from a mixture of European Folk and African American beats. Not one race invented anything. Almost every race contributed to music, then it was formed, nice mixed, modified, advanced into other genres. One color doesn't have a claim to all music. I can attribute probably 5 genres to the Beatles alone. I don't go around saying whites invented all music because of it. Such an odd statement saying blacks invented every genre of music. It's not about color, it's about music. Idk why people try and make this about race. Start claiming music. SRV admired black artists when playing the blues for instance, and they admired him. When they I played together I gaurentee they weren't thinking about what race they were and who started what. Even id SRV went out of his way to pay out if pocket royalties because record companies screwed some black artists

This was written about the government in general and how aggressive they are. Got nothing to do with cops or Rodney King specifically but American government as a whole. Zack says in an interview what prompted the song was the U.S celebrating the Berlin wall coming down while building our own against Mexico

Love your RATM reactions btw, you definitely get them for real, the layers. And yeah this song is from 1996, written in response to the government continuing to pour money into the weapon industry rather than things like culture and welfare that could actually help people, all while building an invisible wall between the US and Mexico (thousands of dead bodies found shot on the border).

Saw these guys at the Limelight in NYC back in the early 90s when they were just coming up. Handing out their demo on cassette. No one knew who they were and they came out and melted brains. One of the most intense and mind blowing live performances I have ever seen. Zach De La Rocha is a genius lyricist.

I was 10 years old in Iceland, 1993, when Rage played a concert in a sports arena that was a 10 minute bike ride from my house. Through pure osmosis from the older kids in my school, I was exposed to their music, not knowing anything about what they were saying, just remember finding the energy and groove of the music addictive. 4 years later I remember distinctly waiting for my record store getting a copy of Evil empire, I remember buying Ratm - Evil Empire and Daft punk - homework, in one trip to the record store
