The ab drill is called 'Bicycles'. There is another one similar which is called '2-second-Intervals' but instead of quick alternating movements, you hold one leg straight 2 inches off of the ground for 2 seconds while the other knee is up against your chest. The goal is for perfect form and your shoulders and straight leg to be off of the ground. I'm sure there are other names for this.

25 consecutive pull-ups, three times?! That's pretty insane, but then again you are a pro rock climber... :-)

I read this before watching it and thought it was hardcore, I watched it and realised they were pull ups on slopers - I think I could manage 3.
@jordanpolak50309 жыл бұрын
you get better pretty fast. I've been climbing for about 6-7 months and when i started i thought 7 pull-ups was good for me and now if i cant do 20-30 pull-ups im either tired or just not trying.
@cruxxnw9 жыл бұрын
Jordan Polak 35 is pretty much my record...not going from straight but from about 135 degrees so almost straight each time. I can also probably only manage that with a good 10 or so minute rest between each go.

Well, that's a thing that I hear quite often and I think there is a misconception in that. Strength is, of course, related to muscle mass, but not remotely as direct as most people think. The nervous system and the composition of the muscle (sarcoplasma vs. myofibrils) are major factors and they can be trained without gaining weight. Now, I still agree with you, that lifting weights is not the only way to go, but I think it is a very helpful tool to have!

@gilbert253 reply: Daniel Woods, "In the climbing world allot of people think that the only way to get better is just through climbing, but if you think about it in all these other sports all these professionals are training day in and day out to help improve their ability, so when they go out to whatever they are doing they can do it at their fullest" The North Face: Mountain Athletics - Daniel Woods Sharma has been sending some of the hardest climbs since he started he was basically born a climber. Alex Honold has a mental strength that makes him an amazing climber but again he wasn't sending 5.14 until only recent years. They are all amazing climbers but they do train and I think it definitely helps.

I call the knee/elbow ones "Bicycles". Do you count 100 including both sides or is a R/L set 1?
@tpeterb9 жыл бұрын
Mate, this is great. The last exercises are 'Bicycles', but you should keep your hands touching the back of the head (not pulling the head forward), to remove the temptation of moving the arm to the leg. Also 'Dragon Flags' are great, and don't involve the back muscles in the way that 'Front Levers' do. Great Video. Cheers!

I think id rather just climb until i am knackered
@Drewbl219 жыл бұрын
Its true that just climbing is more fun, but method training like this is useful because it allows you to target muscle groups and actually measure improvement. If you just climb till your tired its like going to a gym and walking around randomly grabbing different weights with each hand and inconsistently doing reps. It all depends on what your goals are though. If you just want to have fun, just climb. If you want to win a World Cup, do this.

@Brewsto9 жыл бұрын
Leo Falconson nice joke "incomplete" have you done pull ups on slopers? he is training and not trying to achieve what you define completed pull up
@leosokol0v9 жыл бұрын
Brewsto Guys, I'm just kidding. But actually I can do 3 sets of 15 pull ups on Aztec systemboard slopers. Don't know if they are easier than ones in video
@siouxdoughnem2219 жыл бұрын
Leo Falconson I'm with Leo. Why do incomplete pullups? McColl's training is impressive but...sloper or no sloper, an incomplete rep is an incomplete rep. Lower rep sets with full extension would be better training. In fact, sloper pullups are essentially a pointless workout. There are no strength gains for lats/shoulders/biceps over pullups on a bar, and contact strength(grip/fingers) is most effectively trained by simply hanging from slopers. To truly step it up, hang until failure at a 90 degree lockoff. Anytime you do a pullup in training, the extension should be full no matter the grip. No dis to any other comments and absolute respect for Mr McColl
@kilgour228 жыл бұрын
Sioux Doughnem The problem with doing the full RoM repeatedly on the slopers is that the number of reps will put a huge amount of stress on his elbows as he lowers, due to the way he has to hold onto the slopers.

I actually disagree with you partially. But I must say I disagree with the other guy too (I think his way of arguing is ...debatable). The thing about performance in most sports is that strength is the basis. Nothing more and nothing less. For climbing, you have very specific needs for strength, most of all grip and core strength. You can actually train that without climbing and you'll improve your climbing abilities. Does that replace climbing (as the other guy seems to think)? F*ck No!
@b4igetu11 жыл бұрын
Definitely not true. It's just about how much focus and training you put in it. Many pro climbers started around the age of 20. Many of them actually climb instead of just climbing around a gym to. It also comes down to just natural skill. I started at 20 and climbed a 5.10b my first time. My friend started at 20 climbs at the gym a couple times a week and a year in just finally did a 5.10c. Many gym rats do 5.13s and not all started at 6. Just climb, you'll get good.

@gilbert25310 жыл бұрын
Daniel Woods doesn't do any real training apart from just climbing, same with sharma and honold. I'm not saying this is the best way but they all say that the best way to get strong for climbing is just climbing till you get tired. The great thing about this sport is you can just climb alone if you have to and get stronger. I wonder if just lifting is even that helpful cause more muscle you put on that doesn't help with climbing only weighs you down
@GumbyLikeMe4 жыл бұрын
Alex honnald, Daniel woods and Chris Sharma aren't going to the Olympics in all three disciplines of climbing. Just saying.

The climbing community does not WANT climbing in the Olympics. Climbing is not about person versus person, but person versus environment.
