Honestly, the more I play the game, the less I believe in tierlists, this game is getting to a point where itll be peak balance

I don't get why Juri is the "1 million dollar character" when you can only see Luke in that tournament (and in any tournament)

The light button scaling nerf as combo starter hurt Ed the most, now its important to have good 6f medium button. This change I felt is what made Capcom finally decide to just make frame data of light button great for every character, since the reward is not huge anymore.

Ryu could be season 1 A tier with new buffs from season 2 but i dont agree that he is A tier for season 2..He is to clunky to be A tier compare to other A tier characters. Ryu is bully (pressure) shoto compare to Ken (rusher) or Akuma (op damage dialer) And i am not talking about balance but his Denjin Charge design is not supplementing but choking his gameplay stile and from design perspective he need a rework. So my opinion remove Denjin charge make Hhashogeki connect to HP or MK normally .Make OD hasogeki stuns normally but maybe cost 3 bars instead of 2 bars .. Every time you cast Denjin Chare you sacrifice lose pressure and that is design problem of the character .. And that is why i put RYU in B tier. (P.s good players could make him work but his clunky design is a problem to be A tier)

Hey Machoor, great video. I think one way they can buff Ryu that would still stay true to the character would be to strengthen his neutral, specifically they should do what they did at the end of sf4 where they made his fireballs more potent with his light traveling much slower and his heavy traveling much faster. I think this would immensely help him in match ups where characters like Guile, JP, and Chun-li can overwhelm him with their own zoning game and this would allow him to apply pressure while also making him a much stronger zoner. While his fireballs are not bad, I feel like they should be stronger given his playstyle and lore. Tell me what you think.

Brother, how come Ed, who was mid tier before the patch and got hit more than others by the new system mechanics while every other character that was below him got significant buffs, still mid ?? The reasons you gave for Marisa apply to Ed way more bro.

Akuma always had the lowest health, and he always have been very strong, if not the strongest in almost every iteration of him. His health doesn't matter. It may not make sense that he's that strong, but I'm sure it would make even less sense if he was mid tier or anything of the sort. Akuma is expected to be the top of the food chain. And I don't even play the character much.

Ryu is B. He doesn't have any "X factor" to him. Ken for example has Ryu's kit plus jinrai mix ups, tons of control and distance with his moves, powerful back throw to the corner, good mix... Ryu is too standard/vanilla to be higher than B, even with the buffs. Denjin fireball really isn't a threat in anyway, and him getting stronger hashogeki from it doesn't mean much when other characters can get that damage without a charge. I'd change him and have his denjin charge also grant 1 drive gauge bar. I think that simple change would build on what he is now, but make him distinct from Ryu, letting Ryu play around more with his Drive Gauge.

I've wanted to ask how you would buff Ryu further. Good to know. If they want to make Ryu stronger, let him convert Hashougeki into a Hadouken.

This is a very respectable tier list. Nobody uses Luke anymore, Chun got nerfs, Aki got more buffs than Ryu. There's some characters I'd move a space or two around. This is close though.

JP above Deejay, Ken, and Blanka is pretty wild. Otherwise reasonable.

It's funny how since Akuma came out there was plenty of Koomer players online and hardly of them in tournaments. And yet you put him in S tier, funny how this is!

I'd put Jamie at the top of B instead of A. He will always be held back by his drink mechanic. He's a very good character at 3 or 4 drinks but if you're stuck at 1 or 0 drinks then you better start praying in order to make the comeback. Characters like Ken, AKI and Cammy are way more consistent. Also one extra thing is that command grab got nerfed. The combo damage from it scales much more now. A regular OD command grab combo without using super now does Manon's regular command grab damage at medal level 1-2. It's still an amazing tool but it doesn't do the crazy damage it used to.

To make ryu better they could make hashogeki the way guile sonic boom is and the when he hadokens the hasho it becomes a 2 hit move

Honestly Ryu's tatsu is the worst it's been since SF4 imo. They need to adjust his tatsu to strengthen his pressure. Changing it back to how it was in SFV would be the best, where if the opponent quickrises, you'll be right beside them when you land and a dash would put you right beside the opponent if they backrise for a meaty MP. Or increase the distance travelled both by the opponent getting hit and by Ryu doing tatsu (similar to SFIV).

Tier list? You've basically divided the roster into two groups bar 3 characters.

Agree with most of the positions. My opinions different from Machoor though: 1. Akuma is by no means the top one. I may not even put him in the S tier. His arsenal is great for sure, but not great enough to cover the 1000 health shortage. I'd be very suspicious to see any pro players win any major tournaments with him this season. 2. Ken and JP should be swapped. Tokido and Angry Bird all say that Ken is still the best shoto and they will keep using Ken instead of Akuma. JP on the other hand is suffering from anti air a lot. DCQ said he will switch to another character for sure and will not invest in JP anymore. 3. I'd put Zangief in A tier. This guy's pressure is terrifying now. His buffed normals are really effective.

I agree C tier and B except zangief and kim. In A tier I agree except for Blanka and Ken, they should be S. Now about Luke, this seems more like trauma rather than an objective view, he is S but not the 2nd best, surely after guile.

This list is based. I mained Honda season 1 and going into two i thought the ability to press buttons in neutral would be good but then you realize he wasnt designed for that. He is fat stubby and slow which doesnt equal good neutral so you nerfed his random play and forced him to be a button character. Idk he feels terrible once the high of pressing medium punch went away. I switched to marisa night and day difference.

Putting Guile top 4 is a joke. He is walked over by JP and Marisa. You wont see Guile win any major i guarantee it

IMHO Luke is too high, at most T1, most probably T2 His defense tools got nerf very hard, yet his offense tools are as poor as S1(maybe worse than S1) Capcom want to make Luke a rush down character in S2, but he is not a good rush down character to begin with Menard, Chris Wong, Kawano, Bonchan, NL etc, many famous pros ditch Luke in S2 already At the same time, Ken is too low, his tournaments results are comparable with S1 Luke Many strong characters got slight nerf or big nerf in S2, but Ken got a lot of minor buffs, there is no reason he is not top3/top1

I think you hit the nail on the head here for Ryu. I believe Ryu players always have to know the MU very well in order to win consiatently. And on higher levels, the actual players themselves. I believe Ryu has the tools to overcome any mu without having to resort to randomness like other chars in a tier or below him. I also think as mu knowledge gets more mature, Ryu will be higher in tourney placements as well.

More damage and faster walk speed that's all Ryu is missing. I personally feel he should be the shoto with atleast the most damaging DP and fireball
