Secret Wars (1984) hasn't aged well

In 1984, Jim Shooter wrote Secret Wars for Marvel Comics. It was a 12-issue series like nothing the industry had seen before, as it pitted the greatest heroes and villains that the company had to offer on Battleworld, with just one object: Destroy the other side!
However, despite starting what we now know as the Comic Event, how well does this ambitious book hold up today?

I have the nostalgia feels for this one. Otherwise I likely would have passed. I also picked it up for about 30$ and that seemed fine to me.

The new website looks so good. really eye-catching and professional. And loving the merch designs.👍 I read a fair bit of classic Marvel recently and would one day like to pick up Secret Wars. But from what I've heard I know it won't be on the same level as COIE, more like a fun popcorn read that probably won't change my life.😄

Thank you mate, we're still in the trialing phase, so any feedback is welcome :) Just hope it can go some way to helping me do a few more bigger concepts with my videos, but we'll see :) And yeah, you hit the nail on the head there, it is kind of a popcorn flick, just sometimes felt like one with audio description on haha! I was on the fence about getting this. I think we’ve got a similar taste in comics. I don’t enjoy reading the old stuff just because of the dialogue alone my first omnibus was Loki and I didn’t know what I was buying cause I just knew I loved the character, that’s on me though. I respect that era though it got us to where we are now but I’m not fond of it. You’re one of the best channels on here! ☺️

I'll give you thumbs up for a good and interesting video as always...but I couldn't agree with you less. Half-way insulting comic book styles and readers from almost 40 years ago because they haven't experienced those intervening 40 years of evolving narration and drawing styles is just plain spoiled...
