I work at a hotel. My manager took out the coffee pots with the carafe and put in individual coffee makers that go directly into the cup. He didn’t trust the housekeepers were cleaning them with new towels and proper cleaned. As for finding hidden cameras turn on your WiFi on your phone and do a WiFi search. It will pick up wireless cameras

As a former housekeeper in a senior assisted living complex, I was encouraged to clean faster even if it meant ignoring air filters and under furniture. The residents often said it had been a few years since they had seen anyone clean thoughly. If it had been their choice, I'd still be working there; and one even told me the residents were blamed for housekeepers not staying more than a few months though I found the majority of them were quite nice.

I travel extensively for work and staying in hotels it’s always a stressful event. Always carry sanitizing wipes and wipe EVERYTHING in that room, never use the glassware or the coffee maker. If you travel a lot, like I do, you can purchase a traveler’s cover for pillows and mattress. Do not use the comforter. The only thing usually washed is the linen and pillow cases. If you travel for just a few days, do not use housekeeping services. The thought of someone going through my belongings while I’m away is not something I want to worry about. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Motel 6 or a luxury hotel, treat them all as if they are dirty and do your due diligence when staying in one. My 2 cents

I was at a hotel in Israel and I had a stuffed lion with me. I usually put the lion in my bag when I left for the day but I forgot one time. When I came back to the hotel later in the evening I saw that my stuffed lion was tucked into the covers. Most places I've been to just put the stuffed animal on top of the covers or on the table next to the bed, so it was really sweet that they tucked my lion into my bed

Themed resorts do this kinda stuff. In Disney, if you're staying at a resort, you can buy things in the park and have them delivered to your hotel room. They will often stage a scene with the stuff. For example, I bought some straw hats and when I got home, some towels shaped like animals were wearing them.
@Terahnee

We were living in Japan and took the kids to Tokyo Disney one weekend. Both kids (6 & 7 years old) brought stuffies with them. When we would return to the hotel after a day in the park we'd always find their stuffies 'staged' somewhere (tucked in bed, having a 'tea party', etc.). The kids loved it and I loved the extra touch. They also left the clean washcloths / towels folded like animals.

Backpacked a lot when I was younger, it was great. On longer treks and in bad weather things sometimes got a little dirty, but I always knew what it was and how it got there. Plus I was the one who then cleaned/repaired everything, making sure it was ready to be used again. Now I have a RV so can take more stuff over longer distances. Know everyone who's ever slept in it, personally do all the cleaning and maintenance. If I can't take it to where I want to go, I just don't go. Problem solved.

I have 4 uncles who work/worked for a pest control company, so sure as HECK know about bed bugs 🥵 A good way to check for them is to 1. Leave your luggage and clothes in your bags and not on the floor! Put them on a counter or table 2. Lift the linens/sheets and mattresses and look for any teeny tiny black dots with a flash light These aren't a Guarantee, but my family has never had bed bugs before. My ex bf used to work at a motel, his coworker was proudly bragging about stealing money/mail and identities and signing people's numbers up for bonuses for something she was a part of. When he said that's illegal, she went to upper management and lied about him having an underage relationship and was taken off work schedule while investigation was going on. Meanwhile she's running around bragging that she singlehandedly had a man fired, big emphasis on the misandry. All because, she did crime and he didn't like it. Backstabbing is something that's rampant inside of motel settings, especially from those who aim for management, that extra 2 dollars an hour is something that drives the worst of them absolutely wild, we quickly learned that if someone's trying really hard to be your friend, or flirting with you, they're trying to trick you into saying something inappropriate so they have the chance to become the manager's pet so they can fish for a better position within the company, if they see that someone else is going to get that position. They don't CARE that the person they're targeting has a handicapped girlfriend and is the sole breadwinner and keeping her alive.

Yet more reasons for me to be thankful I have my own RV for my travels stays. I know who cleans and maintains it, everyone who's ever slept in it. I would bet many rental RV's have the same issues as hotel rooms, not knowing what staff and guest have done in and to them. And any travel where your luggage is next to other travelers luggage or where their luggage has recently been, risks bed bugs migrating to yours. To avoid this, place scented dryer sheets in every compartment of all your bags and luggage. The scented sheets work as a repellent, keeping your bags and luggage bug free. Which keeps your home bug free.

Wait, so if the valet damages or destroys your car, YOU have to pay for it? I would think the establishment and/or valet would be on the hook for repairs. The valet did the damage, the establishment they work for hired them and supposedly would vouch for them ( I mean, they have them there for the convenience of their customers you'd hope they actually vet them )

That should be how things work, but in reality, the valet destroying your car isn't the issue; but rather, you entrusting it to another entity. Since your name is on your car's insurance company, you are liable for damages. If the valet would destroy your car without you giving them the right to use it, then it's another story.

I actually had two keycard-related incidents at two separate hotels. The first instance, I ended up forgetting that there was a magnetic plate on my phone that was for a special car mount, and this demagnetized the card without our knowledge when I stuck it in the same pocket as my phone, so my husband and I were confused as to why the card wasn't working on the door. Okay, having been in the hospitality industry for a long time, there are so many things to say here. One is with concierges, but not just concierges. Whenever you go to a town anywhere like where I lived in the Caribbean, if you ask people where you should eat, they will always send you to where their friends work or where they get what's called a kickback. The trick is to ask a lot of people and to look up the reviews yourself. Put a little work into it people. It is worth it! The next thing is cleanliness of the rooms. I have worked in places where I've seen management tell the maids that people only stayed one night so just to make the bed and people would never know. I have also watched the housekeepers use a spoon or a fork, lick it and wipe it on their hip and put it back in the drawer. Same with glassware and plates and so forth. Wash everything that you use in a hotel room! Please! The thing is you need to be diligent and watch out for what you are using and what you have used. If you use a towel or sheets or whatever pull the sheets off the bed and put them in a pile. Take the towels, make sure they are wet enough that they have to be washed again. Look out for yourselves...and each other!

We assured them that they were not gone and made them send a person to check out the room. When confirmed, they finally issued us a different room. It was ridiculous, if the room had been cleaned, the staff would have known that it wasn’t vacant!

I once worked at a pizza delivery place where the manager would regularly have us deliver free pizzas to certain hotel desk clerks, who were then expected to show their gratitude by steering their guests to us when the pre-internet question "Where's a good place to get pizza?" would be asked as they checked in. It was informal and no money changed hands, so I wouldn't call it corruption. But there were times when the desk clerks would phone us and ask if they could have one of those freebies today. We'd oblige.

We stayed in a few. If you are going to I would bring some of those dollar store cheap plastic glasses and stop by a home Depot or at Lowe's and get a heat treat gun that you use for shrink wrapping. We've stayed in some pretty questionable places but those two items were always a must in our kit that way you're not drinking out of the hotel glasses and if you have any qualms about sleeping on the matress you can heat treat it cuz the only real way to get rid of bedbugs is killing them with heat initially heat treats your luggage before you leave the room. 16:33

I was staying in an AirB&B with my family back in 2017. We returned to the property one night only to discover that the power had been cut! Come to find out, the property’s ownership had recently been changed and due to a paperwork snafu, the power bill hadn’t been paid. The new owner paid for us to stay in a proper hotel for the rest of the trip. Not necessarily nasty, but definitely weird. Edit: just remembered another one. Also in 2017, my mom and I were staying in a hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland. We were traveling with my middle school for a history class, taking a bus across England, Scotland, and Wales. It was a wonderful, if intense, two-weeks of studying followed by a week of visiting with my family in England during the spring break. Now for the weirdness: the hotel in Edinburgh didn’t have a washer or dryer accessible to guests. We were there for a total of two days in a three-week long trip. Of course coming from the US, mom and I couldn’t pack enough clothes for the entire trip (checking bags is expensive in the States, okay?). So, what were we gonna do? None of the other hotels we’d stayed in before or were going to had washers and dryers for guests (until the cottage we stayed in with the fam for the break). Well, mom went out and bought some soap flakes and spent quite some time washing our dirty laundry in the bathtub! Probably gross, but it worked. The housekeeper that brought us extra towels to dry everything with apparently gave my mom a few strange looks, but that’s what you get when you don’t offer washing and drying machines to your guests! (That last sentence was sarcasm)

I have been both a housekeeper and a guest at hotel/motels. Cleaners do have a set amount of time to get the job done and guests can be soooo unhelpful. A guest in room would drop pennies on the floor every day for 2 weeks. I would have to pick them up and put them on the desk they were scattered in front of in order to vacuum the room. Each and every day the pennies were on the floor with none on the desk and I had to deal with it. When they left all the pennies were piled up on the desk. Why?
@Blatsen
@Blatsen 6 ай бұрын
They probably did that as a test to make sure that you were vacuuming the floor. Since you passed their penny test, they stacked the pennies on the desk and left them for you as a tip when they left. I’m not saying that I agree with that. It seems petty and tipping with pennies is cheap, but it does perhaps explain their behavior.

Wow, that thing about valet drivers damaging expensive cars is pretty shocking. At many high end hotels the only choice for parking is valet, and it isn't hard for me to imagine some teenager in their first job suddenly being handed the keys to a McLaren or Ferrari going a little nuts and doing something stupid. And although I'm nowhere near rich enough to own one of those cars, I know that the imported parts on them mean even minor damage can rise well into five figures. Yikes! I guess that's just the price you pay for buying a car more expensive than a house.
