The music you were laughing at that underscored the documentary was the theme from the original 1979 series. They use it sporadically in this series to represent the Colonial Anthem.

One of many BSG's MANY strengths is how deep the strong casting goes, even for its minor characters - I love that this episode gives so many little moments to highlight Gaeta, Dualla, Kat, etc.

Those are two different copies of D'ana. This episode did establish the Cylons don't have a live transmission between Cylons. But did transmit video to the raiders, which transmitted the image back when they died.

I love the scene on CIC during the battle at the end. The reporter is desperately looking for people to do something, but it is all the pilots. They are the line.

I like this episode. Another big scene for Kat. I don't know if you guys have seen this fun fact, but that original class of nuggets, (Kat, Chuckles, and Hot Dog) were originally planned to just be one-off characters (kind of like Helo). But Ronald D. Moore said that because they didn't have a lot of established pilot characters at the time and the writers liked them, they got used any time they needed a pilot, so they sort of became the faces of the fighter pilots. It's one of the things I really liked about this show. You never knew when someone with a smaller side role might get the chance to really show their stuff in an episode. It's fun on this rewatch with you to recognize certain background characters that I know get big moments later and see how long they were in the show before that.

There's a fun detail in this episode that explains a seeming discrepancy in costuming in earlier episodes: not all of the officers on Galactica were full active duty military, several of them were reservists (Apollo among them). Reservist uniforms have different colour piping on them than active duty.

Most fans, myself included, strongly recommend watching the extended version rather than the aired version, as the aired version was really censored for mainstream audiences. I think the extended version provides important character beats that carry weight going forward. If you’re watching on DVD/Bluray, the extended version is found on the disk AFTER the disk with the aired version. I really adore your reactions. I hope you’ll see this and consider watching the extended version!

A fascinating quieter episode of Battlestar Galactica. The show is often frantic and rushed, but the episodes where things are calmer and slower are a welcome change.

You did see a second copy of the arms dealer (Leoben) in "Flesh and Bone". He was the first to meet "Madam Airlock".

5:34 Just a note: Adama didn't say she couldn't publish anything that would make his crew look bad. He said anything that compromises the SAFETY of his crew. That's a very significant difference, and one that shouldn't be confused. He still has a duty to protect his people.

D’ana on Galactica transmitted the footage off via the Raiders. The D’ana on Galactica may then stay in the fleet for continued access. Or, the D’ana from Galactica could just step out and airlock. It’s already been established that when a Cylon dies their consciousness is transferred to a new body. So, dying in the fleet is effectively a transfer back to someplace else.

First time through, I definitely did not expect a new character to be added AND outed as as Cylon in the same episode. But I suppose, yea, they had already done it with the doctor Simon.

I don't know though, let's keep watching and find out.

Watching Paula's reaction to realizing her trust in D'anna was misplaced made me wonder if she's ever played the Battlestar Galactica board game.

You're not the only ones to think that Ellen might have tied herself up. An early version of the script had Saul Tigh seeing her and saying "Not now, Ellen!" before he was hit from behind. In the end, I guess they decided that this bit of humor just didn't fit in such an intense scene.

Katie Sackhoff wanted to be an Olympic swimmer before dislocating her knee. So she took up acting after that.

Luciana Carro (Kat) went full method for the scene were she is high on stims - by drinking an insane (and potentially lethal) number of energy drinks.

Arrow of Apollo on your neck there, Kat? And for clarification how all of this Cylon shared memory business works: There are 12 models. Each one has a preset personality. And each model can have an infinite amount of copies. Just like a car. But just like cars they don't share the same mileage. So each copy has their own memories. So if one copy dies the consciesness of that copy gets uploaded into a new copy. But only into one that has not yet been activated and not into every copy that is already active. Only one copy of the Six model is in love with Gaius Baltar. Not all of them.

This episode is a stark reminder to be judicious where you place your trust and confidence in this that world. Your trust whiplash is definitely not uncommon for first time watchers. Regardling your feelings on the previous episode; you know when you're in an abusive relationship when you think to yourself "oh that wasn't so bad" and dive right back in knowing very likely something worse is just around the corner. Stay strong and don't forget to breath "Pals"

This is an exploration of themes previously explored by a couple of key Babylon 5 episodes.

When Lucy Lawless came on, I was sure it would be a one and done appearance; then we found out she's a Cylon!! You never think someone who had their own long running series and icon status would join a cast like this, but this is a show worth it! Right now, she's in the perfect spot to spy on the fleet, so it pays to appear she's just a journalist. Isn't it strange Gaius's Six never mentioned what she is? Hmmm . . .

D’anna had access to the CIC, she was right there when Adama and TIgh were making decisions. I think her goal is too get intel. She isn’t in sleeper mode because she held back the missing footage and then the cylon raider got the transmission. D’anna likely doesn’t live on Galactica but in the fleet on another ship.

I don't think this is a spoiler - I don't believe its ever directly referenced again. Basically, the two raiders went on a suicide attack run of the Galactica in order to get in range to receive a transmission from the D'Anna on Galactica and then got that information back to the Cylons. Generally speaking, if you see the same Cylon model in two different places, it's probably meant to be two different iterations of that model. If they want you to know/think it's the same one, they'll go out of their way to make it clear that they're physically moving and that it's not just another copy. I say probably because the show does like to screw with you sometimes, but generally speaking it's true.

20:44 ... As some comments have already said, that music is from the original BSG in 1978. If you have lived watching that original/classic series when it was still new, such as I have, then that music theme is very very iconic. I thank Ron Moore for putting homages in this version, as they should be. I love both series, I know the details of each series & totally understand the little changes made. Soon there is supposed to be a new BSG coming out, under the direction of Sam Esmail, however it is unclear how far this new BSG project is coming along, or not coming along at all. I would also love you to react to the classic series, at least the pilot episode. Would also love you to watch at least one of the cast reunion shows of the reimagined series, such as the one from 2017 (~90 min long) on the ATX TV channel here on youtube. The reunion/convention shows of the original 1978 cast are also fun to watch. 06/18/24

Three of the best Sci-fi shows have done episodes told from a journalist's point of view, and I love how all three had a different take on it, the shows being Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate: SG1.

The Biers on Galactica is probably undercover ( knows what she is ), not a sleeper ( thinks she's human ).

If you have not noticed, the music at the end of the documentary...that is the original theme song from the 1970, redone by Bear into the 'Colonial Anthem'. :)

Another Cylon joins the party! So far we have (in order of appearance): - Number 6; - Doral; - Leoben; - Boomer/Sharon; - Simon; - and now D'Anna. Half the human Cylon models are known now by the audience, just need to learn about the other 6 of them. They certainly are taking their time, aren't they?

Given that you have already been told that episode 10 contains a graphic SA scene, I can say this without spoiling anything further. The way that they originally filmed that scene (now available in the "extended edition") was ultimately deemed too graphic for TV. So in the televised version they toned it down, and actually changed the storyline a bit in the process. The actress in the middle of the SA scene has since said that as far as she is concerned, the way they originally filmed it (the extended version) is what actually happened, and this opinion of hers has informed the way she played the character in subsequent episodes. Normally I ask reactors to watch the extended version, but most of them don't ask for trigger warnings. It's your call which version you want to watch, but be aware that the extended version is too intense for TV.

I think the Fleet D'Anna was in CIC during the Cylon attack, but had a transmitter going to send all the footage to the Raiders, that then forwarded it to "Cylon Central."

Interesting take on the Cylons watching the ‘Sharron footage’ guys…. I always took it that it was Deanna, off Galactica but still in the fleet somewhere having their secret little Cylon meeting…. Also , fun fact: the ‘Disney promo’ style music you heard in the Doco round-up, was in fact The BSG Theme for the ordinal 1970 Battlestar show! 😅

Lucy Lawless said at a convention in a Q&A that when they filmed that Apollo in a towel scene, the most surprising thing was that when he dropped the towel.... it didn't drop. 🥵

The footage was transmitted to a raider, and transmitted back to Caprica. D'Anna didn't get a ship to fly up alongside Galactica and hop on board, that would stretch credulity. Think of the two D'Annas here as Fleet D'Anna and Caprica D'Anna. They are very similar, like Boomer and Sharon, but are physically distinct beings. It also seems very likely that Boomer had her memories downloaded shortly before the attack on the Colonies in the miniseries, and Caprica Sharon had those memories copied into her. So, she just has Boomer's memories up to literally right before we met her.

Love this episode. Lucy Lawless was so great as D'anna Biers. And I LOVE the fleet getting to see the faces of the kids who save their collective asses every day, "warts and all" as the old man says.

With the sharing memories. In the first few episodes I don't think they had decided how it was going to work. So don't put too much stock in what you have heard about how it works. Also the cheesy disney music was the theme of the original Galactica.

The only other character named Biers I know is Victoria's right-hand vampire from Twilight: Eclipse

D'anna was fully aware of her mission on Galactica....Paul was right.....her mission was just reconnaissance, information gathering

The different versions of the models have their own memories and experiences when they die they’re redownloaded into a new body but two can be active at the same time and they don’t share memories

Sorry couldn't resist , the acting and writing really makes BSG.and I'm looking forward to the next .

I think the Cylon reporter was there to try some propaganda-ish journalism, and secondly, reconnoiter and intelligence gathering. I'm guessing as Kat did, they're not updated in real time, but only after one of a model perishes.

I think you Gals are giving more thought to how the Cylons got D'anna's footage than the writers did. Yes, the two Raiders could've grabbed the cut footage showing still-pregnant Sharon*, but that wouldn't have gotten them the finished version of the film (which was still being shot at that time). Well spotted! * Assuming the Cylons have some kind of undetectable, faster-than-light communications system that could relay a signal from D'anna to Cylondom, but eh. Cylons aren't entirely not magical.

You're overthinking the Cylon stuff. They transmitted the footage, probably to one of the raiders(which, when killed would have "respawned" with the data) it's as simple as that. All the Cylons are individuals, think of each model as a whole bunch of identical siblings. They showed D'ana for no other reason than to let you know the one in the fleet is a Cylon, that's all.

We're on the cusp of the big story reaching another fork in the road.

News reporter episodes are never good, which usually makes them good. There's never a reporter episode where you like them and they only do good things.
